Status of A-10C after A-10C II comes?

I never would have guessed the old version would come with the new version at no extra cost. Good for those who don't have it. I think? Who will fly the old one, except for those who don't buy the new one?

I'll buy the new one but won't fly the old one anymore unless the old campaigns won't work on the new one. I still have Enemy Within 3.0 that I haven't flown yet. It would be nice if I could use the A-10C ll to fly it.

I'm pretty confident Baltic will convert his campaign to the A-10C II.

Thanks to Ranger79 donating his fantastic dlc campaign "Operation Piercing Fury", the community can do the same for this one.

Good days for the single player Hog drivers.

I think some people just need to be extra sure and wrap their head around it now that some kind of a decision has come, I hope the staff understands, I am like that sometimes as well, it's not intentional and more innocent than it feels, it's just double-checking to make sure we get it right.

Also we should remind ourselfs that an e-shop module doesn't always correspond to number of units you get, that means for one e-shop item you can play both A-10C's, that's how FC3 works for example. It does however make some confusion to new players because we keep using the term "module" to referr to a couple of things that are a bit different, e-shop module doesn't necessairly correspond to a cockpit module for example in this case, and so on.

Perhaps, we need to start separating some of these terms, "Mission Editor Aircraft Selection Item" or just "aircraft" ... but then the "aircraft" doesn't make sense from the whole weapons/cockpit/components standpoint ... but it's a topic for another time.

The idea I always had in my mind, which I forgot to mention all these months I've been campaigning to keep the old one...

  • If you own DCS A-10C Warthog e-shop module item, you get the ability to purchase a ("discounted") DCS A-10C II Tank Killer Upgrade e-shop module item which only comes with the new DCS A-10C II Tank Killer aircraft/cockpit and associated components.

  • If you don't own DCS A-10C Warthog e-shop module item, you can't purchase the ("discounted") DCS A-10C II Tank Killer Upgrade e-shop module item, the system will not allow it, but you can only purchase the ("fully-priced") DCS A-10C II Tank Killer e-shop module item, which has the flyable DCS A-10C Warthog aircraft/cockpit and all it's associated components included.

  • The existing DCS A-10C Warthog e-shop module item would be deactivated and removed.

But I don't know if it's really like that, perhaps they figured out a better way than this.

Perhaps this may not be optimal because the incase old DCS A-10C Warthog e-shop stuff would be activated, the underlying servers would still need to keep the old entry in there for authentication, it may be just better to move to a 1 module method and to not conflict with code for double-old-A10-C errors is to simply automatically uninstall the old module data first, if detected, before the downloader would proceed to install

And then it would rely on scripts on the e-shop which would detect the accounts which own the old DCS A-10C Warthog module, and correctly apply an actual discount (modifier) onto that one unified module. The "discounted" cases above weren't actual discounts in mind, but base/fixed lower prices versus the "fully-priced" one.

One more question, would you be able to stack ED Miles ontop of the upgrade-discount in that case?

Who will fly the old one, except for those who don't buy the new one?

Well I think for those who only fly software version on their computer screen or who use VR, this is not going to be a problem.

But for anyone who builds hardware cockpit then its a bit more complicated, especially if they use 3rd party software to achieve better functionality. It's potentially going to create some compatibility issues, particularly with older software like Helios and some of the more specialist mobile apps that have been developed.

So I think only those who have a need for it based on compatibility are going to stick with the older software. I'm going to try the new one, but if it doesn't play well with my hardware then I'll have to revert. What I am pleased about is that for now the ED team is saying they will not be forcing us to upgrade, so we get to choose what solutions are best for us.

This is the natural way that all software should be. Let the user make the decisions. It's rare for software companies to be so reasonable, which explains why so many people felt skeptical and suspicious. It's not because of ED, it's because of the software development community in general has had a tendency in the past to take the view that whatever is the latest version is the best for everyone to have, and sometimes (especially in the case of Windows 10) force that on the user even if it may create problems.

I do not understand how people assume anything else then this. If you think about it for more then 2 seconds this the only option that makes sense. Oh well, the world is full of weird people.

guess you weren't here for the Great HeatBlur's "when is Spring of 2019" exactly? Astronomical? Gregorian? Calendar year? Meteorlogical?

You'd think I'm kidding but I'm not! :D

Also, ED has done this with BlackShark already. There's precedent on how stuff like this was handled.

Hell they even listened and allowed people who purchased DVD version of BS1, then bought the upgrade to *not* have to install BS1 during the "upgrade"

Everyone is so obsessed with the software compatibility issue between these 2 versions of the sim, but there's another much bigger problem for many users (probably not the majority, but still, a big number)...

What about how this will affect cockpit builders and things like DCS BIOS, HawgTouch, Helios, etc?

This is a much bigger problem I think, because people have invested countless hours and dollars to make these things work, and every time there's a major change there is a risk that all that hard work and investment is wiped out or at least massively degraded.

This is the reason why ED should not make the upgrade compulsory and should not implement any changes that would make the old version of A-10C stop working in newer versions of DCS or multi-player games. That would not be fair (if the only way to play multi-player is through ED's systems and ED removes the ability for A-10C players to participate, thus "forcing" the upgrade as somebody mentioned happened with Black Shark).

I don't know if that Black Shark allegation was true, but if it was, then definitely not cool.

But it's a silly argument. The A10C isn't going away. What you're saying is something like "car companies can't come out with new engines because people invested countless hours on after market upgrades"

IF ED was taking away A10C, sure I'd be with you. But *NOTHING* is changing for the owners of current product.

However, at some point, companies *HAVE* to abandon old software. The regression testing will take longer and longer if you have to keep old software around. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy that ED came out new textures for a 10 year old product. But I don't expect them to do that.

I'm not sure why ED audience expects perpetual support. It's just not tenable financially.

And if you're building a pit full scale, you do have to take the risk into consideration. For example, the "DRM check online" is the one thing that does concern me. Because what if ED folds up shop? I don't think they are obligated to remove the licensing checking. In which case none of us would be able to play.

As for BS upgrade, it's not an allegation. It was an inconvenience that ED decided to remove. But maybe you were talking about a different issue? Sounds like it was related to a sanity check for multiplayers.

I'm always curious why a certain segment of DCS players (not referring to you) seem to think the worse of ED. Very odd.

PS: This is a new Windows install. And I just realized that Firefox defaulted to adding double lines. And it looks like that's happening to you too? If you use ABOUT:CONFIG, then look for editor.use_div_for_default_newlines you can toggle it to FALSE. I just saw my own post and it reminded me to fix it.

Same...

A10C was my first DCS module and the one I benchmark all the others to in terms of a complete module, with all systems operative and no beta/early access status.

This new one is a day one buy for me no doubt about it, and by the looks of it with the HMCS and new weapons it's going to be a real fighting machine!

Roll on release!

Would still like to know how much this is going to cost for those of us who already have the A10c, as it is, the modules are quite expensive for those, who for example are on limited salaries, and to have to purchase the same plane all over again to get the mk2 would push the cost up even higher than the tomcat

The A-10C was the first module I bought two or three years ago, but I haven't flown it. Was going to set it up the other day but then realized half the cockpit doesn't have associated controls.

Just going to patiently wait for A-10C II.

Can't see flying the old version when there's a new version in the hangar. Never even got the seat warm on the A-10A for the same reason.

Hope you're right, it would be a nice surprise if it did. Especially now since the latest update has been postponed until next Wednesday the 23rd. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=273255

ED have been quiet on it though if it is going to drop this week. They said in last weeks newsletter they were working on tutorial videos and none have yet appeared.
