TIR5 solution regarding attachment

Recommended Posts

Hi! Finally I have purchase TIR5. I do not use headset and planing to use the standard Vector Track Clip. I do not like to use a cap or a bowler hat. I will build my own attachment. I need some creative ideas from some smart DCS plt. Thank´s in advance!

Suck it up and wear a cap. It is, by far, the simplest, most comfortable solution. You'll be putting *something* on your head anyway, and since you don't use a headset, there is nothing else to put it on. Which means you'll be wearing some dorky contraption, or a baseball cap which is comfortable to wear, and for which the clip is specifically designed to easily attach to, and whose position the TiR software is specfically written to track. I'd be very curious to see what else is even possible, that doesn't resemble a cap.

Just a couple ideas. I’ll try to attach pics.

I bought a very cheap set of headphones to modify. $3.00 investment :)

In the Health & Beauty section of Walmart, I found some women’s “hair bands”. Some are wider. Again, very cheap so I bought an assortment.

Interested to see what others come up with.

How about a sports sweatband - it needs to be something that grips your head tight enough to move in a stable and consistent fashion.

You will also find that having a bit of adjustment helps as your seated position relative to the monitor changes

I use TIR too and use a plain plastic hair band my partner gave me and works perfectly! Clips on the side and won't get in your way.

I couldn't bear a baseball cap.... way too uncomfortable after a while, especially on a hot day. And pretty sore on the ears if (like me) you wear glasses.5c95e657c8c5abd5434b77c71693ffa4.jpg

The OP stated that they will be using the 'standard Vector track clip'. That (to me) means what Naturalpoint calls the 'Trackclip'.

That's to differentiate between that, and the 'Trackclip PRO', which is the powered, LED carrying device that could be attached to a hairband etc. if one doesn't use a headset (as the OP stated).

All as seen here:

https://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/accessories/

The spring steel Trackclip can only be tracked properly if its slightly in front of your head, pretty much exactly where it would be if worn as designed, on a cap peak. The most open air type of setup would be what Naturalpoint calls the 'TrackIR Visor' on that page I linked above, which looks like a sports type cap made to allow better air circulation. That's assuming I interpreted the OP correctly. Again, I don't know a simple means of using the Trackclip that wouldn't involve a peaked cap.

I tried attaching the Standard clip to the top of my headset, but I found my head obscured the sensors too quickly. Something like a 2" wide strip of wood about 6 inches long attached to the headset strap to get it past the crown of your head would help. Honestly a cap is the easiest, maybe a tennis hat if you dont want to cover the top of your head would help?
