Changing VR View In the Cockpit

Hi,

I am trying to find how can I see switches on the left and right side in F-14 by rolling my head rather than breaking my neck or changing seat position.. the same issue for looking at the wings to check from my left or right cockpit window.. it appears VR headset is limited only to the front and few degrees (10 or less) to left and right in the cockpit.

As per suggestions, I copied server.lua file to saved games and added F-14B inside and changed the numbers for "limits_6DOF" but it didn't work at all.

I guess I am trying to use the VR headset as I do it with Track IR.

In F-14, looking at switches (especially lower part of the throttle) or light switches on the right is extremely neck hurting.

I also use snap views and mapping them keys buttons etc works but it doesn't look natural at all.

I also check the dcs.log file and I am noticing the server. Lua copied to my user\saved games is not used at all.

what I am missing? any suggestions?

p.s. I have reverb.

Thanks

HP Reverb is Windows Mixed Reality, right?

I have a similar Asus model and have to set up the boundaries in the Mixed Reality Portal almost every time I use it or I don't get the full 6-DOF.

Since I exclusively play seated I just choose seated mode, hover my mouse over the "Center" button, flip down the headset and click, then close out the menu and click back into the game.

Hi Panton41, true it is WMR. I also have sitting setup and doing the centering trick. Still doesn't help me see those switches (i can barely glimpse them)...

When you turn your head left and down - can you see switches and click them easily without moving your body and stretching your neck?

No, I have to crane my neck and body like you would in the real thing. Plus, the F-14 specifically, the cockpit is so weathered it's unreadable even on a large 4K monitor, much less blurry VR.

I've found certain types of chairs don't work well with WMR because the camera can't track properly. I used to use easy chairs and recliners for my desktop and WMR won't track well down and behind because all it can see is cushion. (I have my doubts more expensive sets would do much better because of the blind spots involved.)

That's the issue, I thought server.lua can help by changing parameters especially roll, at least in the past it seems worked (not anymore?) I am very happy with reverb, its crystal clear but you have to look from the center, side of lenses have blurry images...

so the question remains, can we use server.lua or not for changing f-14 default views?

I use a rift s, so you might get a different result. But one trick I use to help the inside-out tracking is to use bright colored post-its. I have 2 small bright orange sticky notes on the floor at both sides of my chair. So when I look at the consoles, the HMD still has something to use a reference points against our white floor.

You can use the post-it trick on the wall behind you or your chair's headrest as well. I noticed that a 1 inch by 1/2 inch sticky note is still trackable at 6-8 feet away. Just make sure it stands out from the color of the surface its on.

have you tried to push Numpad 0 to put yourself a bit more behind in the cockpit?

that helps a bit so that I can see the edge of the switches. For now what I am doing is, turning my head to the right and pressing VR center then I look left and down to see switches, but still too weird to sit sideways in the F-14 cockpit LOL
