As we now are commencing to make up projectiles tracers we need help from the persons who have real shooting experience.

We would like to get info about tracers colours of the guns we have in the game.

If somebody has video of certain weapon firing it will be good.

Of course any useful info will be appreciated very much.

Please don't flood this thread with discussion because we need exact info.

It might be simpler if you made a list ...

Give us all you have - there's a good probability that we have it. :)

Phalanx (CIWS) Block 1B LPWS Testing and Firing (tracers at night, at end of video)

KASHTAN-M

I'm pretty sure that when the BS ballistics video was released, there was a thread discussing the ricochet patterns etc which had a good collection of videos from youtube etc - might be a starting place to get all the obvious ones.

"50 cal footage in Iraq w/ the Deuce House Killaz" - daylight, but some tracers visible

Cheers.

From personal experience in the military:

Nato or American made tracers are usually (but not always) a red color. At night, they appear very much like the red "laser guns" shown in star wars, being a sort of streak of red rather than a red dot flying through the air. During the day, they are much harder to see (individually) and no longer look red at all times. Instead, they appear yellowish at first while the bullet is high velocity, and then transition to an easier to see light reddish color as the bullet slows down. I'm not sure why that is so, but from my own experience, that is what it looks like. Remember: tracers are MUCH harder to see during the day. Tracers are usually about one tracer every five rounds or so.

Although I don't have much experience with russian weapons, I CAN tell you that an AK-47's tracers will be green when fired and not red.

Lastly, what I tell you is for American and Nato GROUND UNITS only. I have no experience with RL aircraft.

Hmm... This thread could do with a discussion of different types of camera/video artifacts that effect tracers. Unfortunately, I'm not qualified for such.

I do recall that Oleg said the squiggly lines were artifacts and someone else said that fireballs from large caliber (>76mm) guns aren't visible to the human eye (but appear as flash and smoke). Same goes for most weapon impacts.

^Agreed. I've seen plenty of explosions (US Army engineer) and none of them looked very much like that. Although they are very pretty explosions, they are also very exaggerated and fake looking...Of course, the explosions in Lock On aren't very realistic either in that regard...

As has been mentioned before, DCS:BS will be using a modified version of the TFCSE engine, so please do not expect to see many changes when it come to effects. However, I imagine this will change in regards to the new engine in development for later versions of DCS.

Of course, Wags. I wasn't saying that they would, or even should change for the first release. Once you've made the first release, you should have ample time to work on that too, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Until then, I'll be perfectly happy to see black shark using a modified version of the engine that I am already familiar with.
