F18 AAR Tanker not responding

Jizzbomb

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm struggling to get the tanker to respond when declaring intent to refuel. Have tried both manual and simple comms, using both radios set to the specified frequency in the briefing.

I've tried on a few different missions including the standard Air to Air refueling mission that comes with the F18.

Any ideas on where I'm going wrong or how to fix?

Thanks

Are you entering the correct frequency for the tanker? Second, I don't know why but for some reason when entering a manual frequency, the frequency modulation the AM / FM tends to change at random.

That could be because easy radio is turn on in your mission.

Is this a mission you created or someone else? Single player or multi player on a server? The briefing could be wrong compared to what is in the mission editor. If you have the ability to open the mission in the editor, click on the tanker and look to see what channel is selected for the tanker and also look in the advanced options for the waypoints and see if a different 'Set Frequency' task is set to a different freq.

If it is a multi player server then the briefing is probably accurate and maybe you have a binding set wrong in your controls? Maybe delete the bind to the radios and reset them?

Its the ED Air to Air refueling mission that came with the jet.

I've tried with both simple comms and without, neither seem to work!

I've also just tried on another mission with a S3 present, it didnt work there either.

Here's what I've been doing....!

I think you interrupt the dialogue by repeating the request too quickly. Wait 30 seconds before trying it again.

...I originally thought the error was using COMM2 instead of COMM1, so I loaded up the same mission. In the briefing, sure enough, it says to use COMM1 preset 1 (251mhz)to call for refueling.

...but to ED's credit, somebody actually play tested this!:joystick:

Both radios are already set to 251.00mhz LOL :megalol:

EDIT: You did try COMM1 at the end... strange. Try a repair?

Get the issue constantly on a dedicated realism server (no cheats on).

Not sure what the problem is, I just hopped on and requested rejoin on 251.000 and it worked just fine. Maybe run a repair?

We get it occasionally. I don't really have an explanation why. We chock it down to poor net code. Sometimes radar will not detect targets; restarting and reconnecting fixes this. We also get issues where 3 people can call the tanker, while 4 people cannot. Its random and doesn't happen all the time.

Hoping ED puts more effort towards the core sim including netcode.

Agreed 100%. Expanding is great but the base game is starting to struggle.

Radios set to the frequency in the briefing, tried COMM1 and COMM2...

What missions are you running? Perhaps the briefing freqs are not correct. I've seen that a few times. The best way is to go into ME and click on the tanker itself and then see what Freq it's set to over in the dialogue box on the right side. Whatever that freq is, that's what you want to set regardless of what the briefing says. Or change the tanker freq there to match the briefing if there is a mismatch.

Well folks, I really appreciate those that have tried to help & provide comment.

I did a full uninstall and a reinstall (took 12 hours to download...!), tried exactly the same things in exactly the same way, and it worked first time. Go figure.

No idea what it was, but again, thanks for trying to help!

Tanker is responding, you are just a poor pilot.

You are completely wrong. There are sometimes mistakes in the mission editor that makes the tanker frequency different from the frequency stated in a briefing or on a custom kneeboard. Please use that empty head of yours before you criticize people in that manner.
