AV-8 PERSISTENT scenario campaing for Caucasus region

Hello,

Now that we are in home because the COVID-19, I've been finishing a campaing based in a fictional story that happens in the Caucasus.

I will upload it to ED website user files, but I will leave here it in advance as well.

 

The main characteristics for the campaings are:

- Persistent scenario: all the stuff you destroy it remains destroyed in next missions.

Yhe same applies for what the enemy destroys, except you and your wingman. Protect your assets!!!

As allow DCS to write files in your PC for storing status is a bit risky, I will explain how to "install" the campaing to avoid the risk.

- Introduction mission: Where is explained how to command AI units.

- Command AI units: You can order several units to do some tasks as recon, escort, refuel, return to base, etc. through the F10 radio menu

(open de comunication MAIN menu and in the F10 option, you will find the type of units you can command and the submenus to give orders to them)

You can find where the AI units are based through the F10 map.

- Areas of interest in the map(POI as Point of Interest): You can't see in the F10 map the an enemy unit until it has been detected by your coalition.

In the F-10 map you will find TACAN units , playing the role of interest areas found by satellite surveillance in the enemy territory.

Sent recon missions to these areas, but be careful. If one of your units is destroyed, it will remain destroyed for next missions!!!

- Choose your own target: as the commander of the operation you can choose how to acomplish your mission.

From the 2nd mission, no instructions will be given, it is up to you what to do. Order someone to recon an area to locate targets, or recon it by yourself, attack some objetive or what ever you want.

- 4 client slot available: Starting with the 2nd mission, you can choose between 4 different slots at the begining of the mission.

In 2 of them you will take off from a short runway, and you will have preset payloads that you can't change.

In 1 of them you will VTO from a FARP, and you can change your pay load at will.

1 extra for Huey owners, allow you to take control a UH-1 to try the rescue missions by your self

- Random events: some times random events will happen. (Remember that if you take off from the FARP, you can choose your payload) React in consecuence!

- Random weather: each time you start a new mission, the weather for that mission will be random.

- Rescue the Prisoners: to win the campaing you will have to rescue the hostages in all the concentration camps. But once done, you can continue with the operation in the area if you want.

- Radio messages: many radio messages with real voices, to improve inmersion.

- Many hours of fun: As there are many things to do, you will have many hours of fun with "infinite" missions.

Do not try always the same. Yes, mavericks and GBUs are "ass kickers". But try dumb bombs, rockets, and other less acurate weapons to increase the fun!

Due to the fact that some of you are having problems when following the steps to install the campaign in the "secure" mode, now there are two options to install it.

1 - Install de campaign main zip (just above) and unzip the fixes in the campaing folder, and overwrite.

2a - follow the campaign installation guide video.

OR

2b - If you don't want to follow the steps in the installation guide video and/or you don't mind to sanitize the 'io' and 'lfs' Modules, just:

open the DCS MAIN installation folder and find this file "..\DCSWorld\Scripts\MissionScripting.lua"

change sanitizeModule('io') to --sanitizeModule('io')

change sanitizeModule('lfs') to --sanitizeModule('lfs')

Some tips:

- You don't have to kill everyone in one mission. The scenario is persistent: kill some units, end the mission and in the next mission the scenario will be the same, and those units will remain killed.

- DCS AI is more Artificial than Inteligent. Try to keep it simple ordering a unit one task at a time.

- Do not allow the enemy to destroy your tanker or awacs. You will need them!!!

- Remeber that you can change your slot in mission too. If a random even happens, press ESCAPE, choose madrid FARP, load AIM-9s and go for it!

- Sometimes is easier to succed in your mission if you have an escort (especially for air to air combat). Remember that you can use your assets to help you

- You and your wingman are inmortal. If you are not sure about a POI, or you know that is protected by SAM units, recon it by yourself before sent any other unit.

- If you know the exact position of a unit, thanks to a RECON flight, remeber that you can use the CAS page of your Harrier to store it as a target.

- You can end a mission, when you want. Just, press ESCAPE and then END MISSION. All that have been killed will be stored when the unit/scenery is destroyed.

- If some

- Once a mission is ended, ALWAYS click on "end mission" button (even if you have died). Otherwise you will play the same weather again.

- Do not concern about you or your wingman. If you died, it does not count for the persistent scenario, you can play again and again.

- Take into acount that if you destroy something, it will remain destroyed for next missions. Even if you died, you cancel the mission or end it at any point.

When it downloads it only downloads the .rar file, nothing else downloads

 

What do you mean?

In the compressed .zip file is all you need to play the campaing.

Just put the content of the .zip file in the usual campaing folder (i.e. C:\Users\#youruser#\Saved Games\DCS\Missions\Campaigns\en\) and follow the video with the instructions (see above).

I don't know why but for some people the harrier doesn`t have the Gunpod loaded for the first mission, as intended. It doesn't happens to me I have the gunpod loaded and I can kill the helos with guns (a bit difficult, but possible).

I have added a workaround above in the Fixes section.

 

In the other hand, the goal of the campaing is not killing everyone in a single mission (what is imposible, of course). The scenario is persistent so, order a recon for some of the nearest POI, get the exact position of the enemy units there. Make your strategy, kill a handfull of them and return home. Tomorrow, in your next mission, those units you destroyed will not be there.

 

You choose your own missions and how to do them. The only goal is for the campaing: you have to rescue the hostages from the concentration camps located ind Abkhazia. So, clear the way to the concentration camps, send a "rescue" mission from F10 menu (and cover them!!! ^_^).

Or do it by yourself choosing slot 4 and land near the concentration camp (if you own the huey).

For those of you that have installed it, please tell me if the campaing is working propertly for you or not.

Any kind of feedback will be appreciated.

 

 

Unfortunatly I can not make the campaign running. I watched your installation video carefully and followed all instructions. However, once I open a mission in the mission editior (after I update the scriptloader file) for testing reason, I jumped into the Harrier at FARP Madrid and a few seconds I get the message that it cannot load the script file "Initialize.lua"

Hummersepp, could you send me your missionscripting.lua file and the content of folder /the abkazian war/scripts? (once you have changed them all)

I managed to made it running. I put it in a wrong folder. Now everything works fine

Please take into account that, from the second mission, everytime you end your flight you must click on "end mission" button. No matter what happens, if you have been killed or not. Otherwise the weather and the daytime for the next mission will not be randomized.

I have found an error in the triggers for the rescue of the prisoners held in the concentration camps. I have fixed it, but I have to try the fix before upload the fix.

Be advice, if you try a rescue mission, the rescue will not be saved until I upload the fix.

All wingmans and Colt escort respawn always in next mission. If they have been already killed, open ../status/status.lua file and replace each

Colt 1 2, Colt 2 2, Colt 3 2, Colt 4 1, Colt 4 2, Colt 5 1, Colt 5 2, Colt 6 2 with "NOUNIT" in the file.

 

For more inmersion, now Player AV-8b on the ground slots will start in an hangar and some static object added near the take off areas.

New random event. Sometimes a coupe of migs spawn near the Azkhazian border. Don't forget to add a couple of sidewinders or request escort before go for your main targets!!!

 

Random event "attack on Amelia Earhart base" is now easier. SU-25T attackers has been reduced to 3.

NOTE(Do not forget ordering your wingman to attack bandits and set "weapons free" to your escorts just a little before you reach the incoming threats. Otherwise escorts will ignore the enemies until it is too late.)

 

IMPORTANT: It is possible, when you "install" this fix, that you will need to repeat the step 11 of the installing process

All the fixes have been removed and replaced for the last one (FIX20200607).

It also allows a way to install the campaign in an easier way (If you don't mind to sanitize IO and LFS libraries)

Maybe i am being dense (most probably I am). But on the intro mission I can't load AA missiles on the harrier from the Tawara and when the helicopter event happens I have nothing to attack the helicopters with.

 

My escort does not engage them either. How do I destroy said helicopters?

I don't know why but, for some reason, for some people the GAU12 pod is not loaded in the first mission as intended. I don't have that problem and I do not know why it happens.

The "manual" solution to the problem is edit the "...\Saved Games\DCS\Missions\Campaigns\en\The Abkazian War\St0-Intro.miz" file with the mission editor.

Then select a payload (2 or 4 sidewinders + GAU12 will do it) and in the Tarawa supplies menu set "unlimited ammo".

 

This will set the initial payload you want, at the begining of the mission.

 

(In the other hand, I am assuming that you have installed the FIX20200607)

could you please tell me, if the process that makes the campaign persistent could interfere with other dynamic / persistent campaigns, such as liberation or persian power?
