I noticed some dropped frames and monitored it with FPSVR, installed the 446.14 drivers and a noticeable improvement with dropped frames. Not a massive difference but reduced the odd little stutter. I thought it was since installing the G2 so focussed on it but I think it is a driver issue. Might be worth a try if you notice it.

Quick question, I'm helping a friend setup his G2 and we're having issues with reprojection. WMR for Steam VR BETA is downloaded and we set the Motion Smoothing in Steam VR/settings/video/per application/DCS to Enabled.

As he didn't buy controllers, he cannot access the Steam VR dashboard or the specific WMR reprojection settings within that app and the settings in Steam VR are not turning on reprojection. FPS is fluctuating in DCS.

Do I need to revert to the old way and go into the WMR Steam Apps notepad page and comment out the marks next to auto?

If you have an Xbox or Playstation gamepad around, plug that in and you can access the Steam VR menus using that.  o my Xbox controller you press and hold the left menu button to access the Stem menus within VR and select items using the pointer dot and the controller trigger.

I got my G1 back from my son today, so I could do a side by side comparison.

At approx 2160x2160 for both devices the G1 is noticeably clearer and has a significantly larger sweet spot. Bumping the resolution up the sweet spot becomes similar and the G2 looks good at 3160. However, running the G1 at 3160 looks pretty darned good too!

My problem is for performance I never ran the G1 that high. I wasn't expecting the G2 to be more demanding.

Without resurrecting that whole topic again, the current G2 100% is equivalent (roughly) to the G1 200%.  Not many people felt the need to go that high on the G1.  I ran at 170%, but most people were lower.  Still a mystery why G1 doesn't apparently need any adjustment for barrel distortion when every other HMD does.

Very strange this difference between the G1 and G2.

Yeah it all does not make much sense to me. Two headsets with both stating the same native resolution, yet one requires much higher for it's default resolution.

I can only presume the difference in lenses and required adjustments for distortion accounts for the difference.

As I said above, why does the G1 not require any barrel distortion adjustment though.  That is the question, not why the G2 does.

For me a most important question is.. the higher required resolution translates in better visuals compared to the G1 at the same resolution? I mean, it the G2 needs a 130 % supersampling to look fine.. it looks like the G1 at 130 % supersampling or there is a loss in visuals? Because if there is a bigger requirement for nothing we have a problem..

G2 looks quite fine at 100%.

But performance suffers.

Correct me if I’m wrong Don, but I didn’t think you had a G1 to compare with.

How you compare both at 3160 ? Both look similar or the G1 looks better?  Please, focus on the edges of the city buildings, the most noticiable advantage with the high supersampling values is the absence of aliasing.

Thanks in advance

Personally, I find MSAA does a better job of anti aliasing than SS.

True, but I was making comparisons between MSAA 4X and MSAA 2X and high supersampling and the image is a lot more crisper with the SS, the antialising effectiveness is similar and the performance is better.

I love the clarity SS gives, but I’ve never seen it do a good job on anti aliasing on buildings, for example.

Anybody has a good settings for dcs and g2 with rtx3090? I am confused what resolution to put on steam vr. I run 100% with 50 ss and smoothing enabled or forced and reproduction on but on f/18 i see little shutters even at 45 FPS. Is not smooth as it was on rifts or. Quest 2. When I swapped the quest 2 with the g2 with the same settings I had before even at 100 res and 100 ss the dcs was going smooth at 45-50 FPS at high on settings After I change to vr and again on high on settings starts the shutters and I had to lower the ss to 50%. I have pretty powerful system with 3900x and zotac 3090 oc. And 32 memory.

Don, even with your 3090 the performance suffers? Are you able to use MSAA and SS 100% with the 3090? I was looking into getting this card but if there's not much difference in performance in DCS than a 2080ti, then I don't want to waste my money.

In my experience, there is a huge difference in performance with my 3090 compared to my old 2080 Ti. Doesn’t mean we couldn’t do with more power, however!

I think the G2 is better at the higher res but only slightly. Not the kind of jump I was expecting from the reviews.

I wasn’t expecting any real improvement in image clarity or quality. It’s all the other stuff that makes the G2 superior to the G1, i.e. comfort, audio, hardware IPD, tracking, build quality and controllers.
