GTX 2070 Super and Intel i7 9700K

After alittle researching on the bottleneck theory, my budget for a my DCS machine as of today will be based around the 2070 super. Has anybody ran this combination and is this a good blend.

if not ... should I bump up the CPU or GPU.

Fine for flat screen. Id suggest more gpu for VR.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Per below specs and my index, I’m using every ounce of power she has and still have struggles maintaining 45fps with good settings

Haven’t even tried 2.56 ob upgrade yet ( or whatever the number is currently)

Saving my pennies already to grab a 3080ti if and when they release. Don’t care what they cost but I’m hooked and want more!!!

Regards

I9 (5Ghz turbo)2080ti 64Gb 3200 ram. 3 drives. A sata 2tb storage and 2 M.2 drives. 1 is 1tb, 1 is 500gb.

Hey, I built a system with a 9600k @ 4.7ghz and a 2070 Super today. I decided against a 2080ti to save ~700€. Just started to test it out with my Rift S. So far I agree with the former posts as the system is gpu limited.

I actually had an equal system with a 2080ti some months ago. I played with 2xMSAA and a pixel density of 1.8 . Right now I am playing with the same settings only that I decreased the pixel density to 1.5 and am pretty happy with the performance so far.

Thx everyone else. I will not be doing the VR thing... I know it’s a lot more eye candy ect. But I just don’t like that big ole thing on my head. Maybe when they come down in size one day. My budget is with the i7 9700K and the gtx 2070 super. I just didn’t know if I should stick with the 1060ti card. I could probably squeeze a 2080 super in but I heard it’s not much of a difference between the 2070 super, just the price. Also At this time I’m learning about overclocking so I really don’t see myself doing any of it right now. I just want to get a decent system for DCS and start training. I should be able to get one up in 2 weeks time.... so excited !

Thx ! FNG out

Hi,

one of my Systems has a 9700k, a KFA2 RTX2070 Super and 24gb ram. Im running most Settings on high with MSAA x2. At 1080p im sticking at my monitors 75hz/fps. On multiplayer servers it can drop below that on rare occasions (not sure if its my pc or the server...).

Tomorrow I can test a specific Graphics setting and record via Shadowplay if you want?

That would be great if all possible  I’m getting so excited that I’m loosing sleep. I think I have learned enough running dcs1.5.8 and in the SU-25T with my old machine that when I get to a good rig it’s gonna be like night and day. Waiting for that moment.

Thx !

Here is a quick fps test. Did not have time for big flying and trackir, but it should give you a rough idea how it runs.

Note it was on a big server and my monitor is capped at 78fps.

Youtube compression also did its job lol.

I appreciate that Fliegefisch Thx for your time. That’s the only thing holding me back right now is deciding between the 2070s and the 2080s with the i7-9700k. I think I’m on the right track now.

Everything looked beautiful.

Thx again

Great CPU for DCS will happily overclock to 5ghz re the i7 9700k. Waste of money to get the i9 for DCS.

As for GPU, it really is worth spending that extra £250 for a 2080 super or £200 for the standard 2080 if you want to play in VR. Friend of mine struggles with the 2070. It will make a big difference in playability and immersion.

I really think the 2080 is the bottom line now for VR, especially as ED increase the eyecandy.

Also cannot recommend enough running dcs on the m2 / SSD hard drives and ensuring 32GB of ram if running heavy multiplayer.

Is there a significant difference between GTX and RTX cards running DCS 2.5.6 now? Can an RTX take any load off of the CPU vs a GTX card? A few weeks before the upgrade from 2.5.5 to 2.5.6, I got a new GTX 1660 Super w/6GBs DDR6 on a 32GB RAM, Ryzen 7 3700 system. Running a RiftS VR, it ran pretty smooth in everything but side-to-side head translation. There I would get some lag in frame rate, I think. But since the upgrade to 2.5.6, the lag is just a little more apparent. But rotating my head left and right, up and down there is no lag. Only moving my head side-to-side.

Also, I'm spoiled from using a 43" 4K monitor at 3840x2160 resolution (8.3 megapixels) with Track IR5. The pixel pitch is so fine that individual pixels can not normally be noticed. The 4K gives much better visual acuity compared to 1920x1080 or Rift S's 1280x1440 (1.8 megapixels), but only 2D. Compared to real life at 20-20 vision, this 43" 4K monitor is like 20-40 vision, pretty good, but not as good as with corrected vision. Rift S is like about 20-60 vision, getting pretty bad. I can't imagine using any VR goggles of lesser resolution than Rift S. HOWEVER, the head tracking of Rift S is far, far, far better than Track IR. Rift S tracking is smooth, error free and 1-to-1. Track IR has to use reduced head movement with accelerated view movement because you still have to see forward to the monitor in front of you...like a 4-to-1 ratio of view rotation to head rotation. And Track IR has poor head tracking video arrangement next to Rift S, especially in looking overhead.

If Oculus could come out with a Rift with 1920x2160 resolution (4.1 megapixels), each eye, with the same angle of view, I think we'd have 20-40 vision in 3D. And if they, and our video cards, could do 2560x2880 in each eye, I think we'd have 20-30 vision in the goggles (7.4 megapixels).

Yes I will be getting 32gb and running DCS on a 1gb ssd. I’m not really interested with VR at this point. I’ll be going the tracker IR route which will be good enough for me. And definitely Multiplayer !!!!

Thx for the feedback

No problem enjoy! If you get the opportunity i would recommend trying VR, there is no going back and at the moment price point to eye candy the Rift S with Oculus Tray Tool is tough to beat in terms of working out the box, eye tracking and smoothness and price, you get alot of headset visuals compared to the Vive Pro and its price point.

Yes Hawkeye I will try VR out for sure. Thx for the info. My main concern right now is getting a machine and gear. I have about 2 weeks to go. Also hopefully in the VR future they will be able to make smaller versions kinda like Levar Burton character in Star Trek. I can see it coming one day.

Hawkeye, do you run the M2 as the system boot disk and have DCS there as well? :noexpression:

Great question. If so, would 2tb be a good choice. But then I think it would be good to do constant back up to the 2nd ssd drive. Dang I’m starting to sound like really tech... wish is cool I think
