The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) is coming up in a couple weeks in Vegas. Should be some interesting rumors and "leaks" coming out, hehe. We got Z490, Ampere, and now this. Hopefully they are all out with good availability by next build season. Intel is still stuck on 14nm+ per the leaks on WCCFTech.com Good times ahead boys! My Reverb needs those frames!

Love to see this. This steady push to compete, if not out compete in some instances, with big blue is good for everyone: better quality and lower prices. When the sea rises, everyone on it rises with it.

in Jim Keller we trust.

my AMD Shares have gone from $2.35~ to over $50 each at some points, and settling in the $45-$50 Range.

I am really hoping they can break the @4.2-4.4 barrier” I always lose the silicon lottery. :)

I have yet to be disappointed since getting a 1700 at launch, and it just gets better and better.

The Ghz Barrier is no longer what Intel or AMD are after, it's Cores/Threads.

4 Ghz is suitable.

ps.. it's less about the CPU and more about the Supporting Cast... Budget Mainboards with low spec VRM Arrays and Shielding will not get the clean power needed for the chip to auto clock itself in the 4.5+ GHz Range

To be fair, I cant complain about clock speeds. 3900X is rated at 4.6 Ghz max turbo but mine is consistently boosting above that on the better CCX. The other cluster is not so good, but that is the way with 3900X / 3950X. 6 well performing cores and 6 performing within specs is enough to drive things. I wasn't even expecting to see 4.75 Ghz clock speeds :)

4.5 Ryzen GHz is about the same performance as 5.0 Ghz on Intel right now. They aren't comparable simply by numbers.

yeah, it took me to get to 5.31 Ghz on my FX8350 to match the Intel at 3.0 GHz

Every Winning CPU AMD had was designed by Jim Keller.

I think the idea of Jim Keller being the sole genius behind Ryzen is pretty much a myth. It's not like Jensen is responsible for Nvidia gpu's performance or Raja Koduri is only responsible for Radeon failures.

Steve Jobs had no idea about CPUs, ICs, OS and what not else but he was the sole guy who took Apple to where Jim Cook took it over and he's got to work hard to keep it up there.

It's the idea you have and if you manage to pull it off, hire the right people and fire the wrong ones. Insist on what you think must be done and neglect all others that want to derail your idea.

Then, 1 Person can make a difference. There are more people like Steve Jobs in this world but he is an example all can understand.

I have no idea who Jim Keller is and what he did for AMD but it seems like that he's got the Jobs gene that you need from what I read here.

I'd personally compare Steve Jobs more to Lisa Su when it comes to management and strategy.

AMD, Intel, and Nvidia all have some of the smartest people in the world working for them. Jim Keller left AMD to work for Tesla in 2016 and works at Intel as of 2018.

All three of those companies have a foundation of decades of proprietary tech and engineering processes. Just their patent portfolios alone would make anybody's head hurt.

Jenson Huang is the CEO of Nvidia and has been since it started. Lisa Su is CEO of AMD and has been with the company since 2012 and is an electical engineer. She has a resume that would make any EE or CTO drool.

I admire Steve Jobs for his vision and he was obviously a genius. But he wouldn't have been able to start Apple without Steve Wozniack who was the technical guy and lead designer of early Apple computers. All teams need a good leader to be effective and have direction. They are still teams.

How can i get my hands on the better CCX? Is this an AMD update or just silicon lottery. My 3900x boosts to 4.6 but 4.7 is impressive.

Imho, 3 ways to try:

1. better cooling

2. better VRM/board

3. next 3900x and role the dice again

The h115i ain't a bad cooler at all but there are better waterblocks for DIY Loops, which will be just as costly as trying out a better board with a cleaner VRM

my 3900x was pulling a bit better clocks using aegesa 1.0.0.3 over 1.0.0.4, which is what im using now. Actually, my temps are a bit on the high side, which is what i was thinking. This is only a month old, but I think I need to clean. apply better paste, and re-seat my waterblock. It did move during installation. The h115i uses two screws/clip mechanism that slipped off the clip when i was installing it so I think it can probably be seated a bit better.
