Quick?

It may be quick since the last OB, but not quick in general, but yeah I think it was timed/planned so that Release would be updated before year's end and yeah I'm happy for that!

I get your point. But since there is no update for stable version without a similar stable state of the OB at that specific time it was quite a nice surprise to get a stable update on Christmas eve.

So I'm happy too, and thank again.

2.5.6 has introduced some major changes which have had an impact on performance for some users. These need to be worked through before the stable version can be updated. It is why we have an open beta to work through issues so the stable version can be stable and performant. Some times it will take longer than others it just depends on the volume of work each beta update produces.

Until we are happy with 2.5.6 we wont be updating stable version, we need to get performance issues resolved first.

Thanks

I'm sure you are absolutely right.

I have always been following the OB users' experiences and posts and there wasn't a time where I was more happy to be a user of stable DCS than right now. I'm grateful ED does not rush the stable into the state of the actual OB.

Take your time ED. I trust in you.

I am well aware of the problems in the Beta 2.6... but.....

Rush? It's been 4 months!

It was years before 1.5 and 2.0 got merged...

And as somebody who exclusively plays stable, I don't want anyone to touch it until 2.5.6 has been sorted out - I get adequate enough performance for me and I don't want it to get shafted by 2.5.6

What has "it was years before 1.5 and 2.0 got merged" to do with this?

As far as I remember it has never taken so long for the release version to be updated...

It is a variable. It isn't that they are being tardy about getting around to promoting beta to stable just that this is a bigger amount to work through before it is ready for the reasons stated.

What has "it was years before 1.5 and 2.0 got merged" to do with this?

Because, like 2.5.5 taking ages to get updated to 2.5.6 it took ages for 1.5 to be updated with 2.0 to make 2.5... And it was years! Not months. You couldn't even have Nevada and Caucasus on the same version and it took years before you could (not too dissimilar with the JF-17 situation).

It's not the same thing, I get that, but it's not too dissimilar either.

As far as I remember it has never taken so long for the release version to be updated...

As far as I remember we've never had an incremental update be so major and at the same time be in a pretty bad way - that's why it's taking so long. It's not updated on a strict schedule, it's updated when it's ready. The last thing people want to see OB or otherwise are broken patches.

It'll get updated when 2.5.6 is sorted out, which is exactly what should happen. I don't want a broken update coming to stable, completely undermining the point of stable.

It’s a shame they can’t push all the airframe updates out onto stable and leave the new lighting on beta until it’s ready for release to stable.

Having the airframe updates only would probably keep a lot of people happy without the cost to FPS or stability.

Having the airframe updates only would probably keep a lot of people happy without the cost to FPS or stability.

The problem is it creates another branch of development to test. Adding anything to stable could be game breaking, it could impact performance or make stuff that was working before no longer function as it did. So you have to test the stable updates independently ideally as another open beta to get the wide testing of many PC configs. It starts to get more complex and the risk of adding bugs to stable increase.
