cool_t
:( Anyone figure out what the problem was?
S77th-GOYA
The C models are still undergoing tests. But the USAF considered that the E models are newer, built stronger and also were not subjected to the degree of stresses that the other models have to deal with. S77th-GOYA
Here you go: It's on the Wright-Pat home http://www.wpafb.af.mil/ It is in an embedded video file on that page. If it is not there anymore, try here: http://www.af.mil/tv/ That gives a slightly higher res version anyway. Look for "F-15 flies again".
Starlight
I don't know what this problem was about, but a similar thing happened on F-16s some time ago. Cracks on wings, fuselage... At a first glance it looked like the USAF was to scrap some 700-900 F-16s, but then they came up with a metal plate which reinforced the aircraft frame. So, many of them are still airborne... I personally saw some Italian F-16 (early F-16A block 15, afaik) converted to ADF version (interceptor role).... they fly with these plates attached, straight and simple... S77th-GOYA
http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/11/airforce_f15_grounded_again_071128w/ A - D grounded again. The latest decision to ground the jets was based on a metallurgical analysis of the jet that crashed Nov. 2. The investigation drew attention to the F-15’s upper longerons near the canopy of the aircraft that appear to have cracked and failed, ACC said. Those longerons were covered in general by previous inspections but technical experts with the air logistics center assisting in the accident investigation board have recommended a specific inspection of the suspect area.
