Requesting AI wingman to attack a designated target

Hello

Is it possible to ask a AI wingman to attack a target that you have designated with the TGP for example? Is this implemented or not? If not will it be implemented?

Im asking because I have tried with engage my target and it wont work for me, same with radar locks on aircraft.

In the SU-25T you can put the tv sensor on a target and then hand it of to your wingman with engage my target and then move the sensor to another for your self. Same with radar locks in the F-15C. That way you can acually benefit from having a wingman in single player missions, you have more weapons.

I know the Hornet is not a FC3 aircraft but the same functions are badly needed if they dont exist already an Im doing something wrong.

I have tried both Engage my target and Attack my target when I have a target in point track on the TGP. Did not work.

It would be nice if ED would share if this is supposed to work now and in that case how you need to designate. In the A-10A it could be done with the HUD designator but not with the Maverick seeker so it might not be totally logic.

If its not implemented now it would be equally important to share some info on that as on AG radar for example. How it is planned to work in that case. Otherwise people might be sitting like me trying to get something to work that never has a chance of working.

+1 also would love if these commands were given some love. Especially attack my target. So you can get some specific help from your wingmen.

Indeed, but to begin with, some info on what commands are planned for the Hornet and Viper in a newsletter or a forum post would be a start.

It has never been commented.

I mean, will it be the same as in the A10C or is something new in progress? Or is what we got it?

To me this is much more interesting than AG radar or ATFLIR or something like that.

I did not know that this was module specific, I thought that it was a core ting that would work atleast as in the FC3 aircraft eventhough the Hornet is EA.

Im fine with it beeing EA, I knew when I bought the Hornet what EA means apart from missing this. But like all other things in EA it would be nice to get some news because its a big thing in single player.

Does this work in the Viggen by the way?

I don't think "Attack my target" works for any other module than A-10C, as in, the possibility to point a sensor at a specific target and make your wingman attack it.

"Engage ground units" however works, and I guess the wingman will engage ground units closest to either player or himself, and this does not let you be specific about what targets you want him to engage.

To my delight I discovered last night that Engage My Target works now in Air To Air with targets you have locked on radar.

This has not been in a changelog so I was pretty suprised.

It would be nice to hear something about how its planned to be implemented for Air To Ground, I mean for what sensors, TGP point track only or INS waypoint/Maverick/HUD designation also. And if its far or close in time.

Yes.. what is the official word on it? @BIGNEWY Could you perhaps check with the team if this is anything that ED is planning to introduce ability to send your TGP acquired target to Hornet's flight members?

"Engage my target" doesn't work how I would like it to work, I mean to sort targets, i.e. Tell the wingman to engage bandit 2 while I engage bandit 1.

For exemple, in the Hornet : I have a bandit designated on the rader as primary and a second one as secondary target. I command “engage my target”. He acknowledges. On the SA page, with DL, I see the wingman engages my primary target. Fine, then I switch (undesignate button) my primary and secondary target designation so I can engage the other bandit. THEN, unfortunatly, my wingman changes his target too ! He constantly engages your primary target wathever you designate. So what's the point ?

So you can think you'll use “engage bandits” command, let your wingman choose his target, and then choose another one for yourself (if you're flying a bird that has DL). But on the “Hornet 1989 Alert 5” mission, for exemple, you have to destroy an attack package of 4 SU24 escorted by 2 MIG29. The idiot wingman chooses to engage a SU24. So you have to deal alone with the 2 aggressive MIG29.

I'm getting tired with solo missions and dealing with AI (AI stands for Artificial Idiocy, right ?), I'm willing to try to fly with humans so you can cooperate efficiently : “you engage the trail bandit and I engage the lead, roger, let's go”.

There is a lot to be desired from AI flight members for sure. I agree.

Maybe one day we will achieve the goals and wishes. For now it is what it is.

Something you can try to get wingmen to engage is the engage mission command. This is a command in the wingman menu that comes in two versions, one to execute and rejoin and the other to execute and RTB. The commands make wingmen behave like normal AI and follow their waypoint tasks automatically. This won't let you designate popup targets via TGP, but you can at least make an attack plan ahead of the mission. The AI is a lot better at dealing with preplanned threats than dynamic ones, so it might be best to leave known targets for wingmen while you as the player look out for dynamic targets.

Here is a video explaining the command:

This is something I have been using all the time I want AI to do something. But it requires setting up entire mission plan and makes things "scripted events" rather than reaction to threat / executing rules of engagement. Yeah, it still works though.

Preplanning is realistic though. They also aren't really scripted events. You can assign "Search Then Engage" tasks to your own flight. This will make your wingmen seek out targets even if they are dynamically spawned or hidden in the briefing.

Well, if I assign two DMPI to my flight and give my wingman two GBU weapons he will conduct the mission in exact same manner on any given fly through. With the same level of accuracy, time on target and fly path. It will try to do that even if a mobile SAM pops up unless I manage the threat reaction.

Which is good (no SAM present version) as I want him to do that anyways, but I wish AI was more agile. Executing the mission but adjusting it's tactics based on the situation (SAM present).

On the other hand in CAS mission, not everything can be planned in advance, that's why there are controllers to dictate stuff. But you can't accept 9line and ask your wingman to execute it.
