As we welcome Iran back into the international community, a picture of Iranian ace Jalil Zandi, who is credited with shooting down 12 Iraqi aircraft during the Iran–Iraq War, making him the most successful F-14 pilot (& the most recent 'ace')

Jalil_Z.jpg

Somehow this seems like an appropriate time for an F-14 tribute video.

JFS system. Jet Fuel Starter, a tiny gas turbine engine that starts the main engines.

- Auxiliary Power Generation System

The Auxiliary Power Generation System (APGS) consists of an APU and a selfcontained Stored Energy System (SES). The APGS provides secondary aircraft power

for everyday main engine ground start, aircraft ground maintenance, and in-flight

emergency power for aircraft recovery. The APGS uses the G-250 APU, a 450 hp

turbine engine.

- The SES provides power for emergency APU starting both in-flight and on the

ground. SES motors the APU via the turbine power motor to provide emergency

electrical and hydraulic power. Once the APU is supplying emergency power to the

aircraft, the SES automatically returns to a ready state. The SES also provides pneumatic

energy for alternate landing gear extension, arresting gear, and APU door operation. An

SES fuel bottle, in the aircraft left side of body, stores fuel for combustion by the turbine

power module during emergency operation and APU start. Air from two SES air bottles,

in the aft fuselage, expands a bladder in the fuel bottle to pressurize it. A recharge

assembly has a hydraulically powered compressor to recharge the SES air supply bottle

after use. There is also a ground service connection.

- Engine Starting System

The engine starting system in conjunction with the auxiliary power generation system

allows main engine starts, engine monitoring, and Airframe Mounted Accessory Drive

(AMAD) motoring for maintenance to be accomplished. For these operations bleed air

from the APU or from a ground cart is delivered to the Air Turbine Starter (ATS) which

then drives the respective AMAD gearing. When a ground cart is used, an engine start

command causes the APU environmental control system isolation load control valve to

open and admit ground cart air directly to the starter. The bleed air from an operating

engine cannot be used to motor or start the opposite engine.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.
