F-15C Download Issues 9/28/19

Has anyone experienced any issues this weekend?

Yesterday, I decided to download the F-15C. That worked ok except once installed (via Module Manager) I found out two things

1. No Training Missions for this module.

2. Lighting up the afterburners resulted in a reduction in speed at any altitude until the module stalled and fell out of the sky.

Now there may have been more except by that time I tried to contact DCS World. Before I always got prompt replies but this time my message wasn't sent because I hadn't included a "screenshot or File" i.e. it wouldn't send until I did. I wouldn't do that so the message was unable to be sent.

That's when my PC told me that a "Virus/ Trojan Horse" had been downloaded.

Now Stuff Happens but it definitely appears to be connected - my security had never been breached before.

Happen to anyone else and how do I contact DCS World now?

Thanks, Pete.

1. Never were.

2. What your engine gauges indicated? Have you induce negative G? Screenshot of the engine and fuel gauges please. I suspect cross controls problem - screenshot the axis page. Tested OK @latest beta.

Draconus:

1. Thanks. Nice to know.

2. I'll do more checking as you suggest re: Cross Controls. I've been testing on the "Helos" er, quick flight thing. I get "Bingo" fuel a couple of minutes in which may be symptomatic as I was trying to get above 10k feet to really test it......

I'm assuming then re 1. that there is a comprehensive Plane Manual in the Docs?

I should add that I'm new to Flight Sims but not flying which probably seems ass backward. I love your SU-27! Can you confirm whether it is the S/P version? DCSWorld is the bees knees, which is why I wondered whether I had problems with the download.

Best, Pete.

Draconus:

This is what I found in Controls

If you search for "Flight Controls" you find "Thrust" my TWCS Throttle shows up and the full range is included. Should work fine, right?

However if I search for "Throttle" it doesn't. There are separate lines for "Throttle Up" and "THrottle Down" and I can't get it to accept the TWCS Throttle.

Is this the problem?

I tried the "Instant Action" "Strike Escort" and couldn't get any throttle or thrust movement at all even when the afterburner was on (checked external view, it was burning good)! The F-15 stayed at about 325 knots at 19k altitude...............

So no luck with it working thus far...

Best, Pete.

ad. 1. You can find aircraft manual in [DCS installation folder]\mods\aircraft\F-15C [or Flaming Cliffs]\doc

I got a feeling you mistake me for DCS stuff - I'm just a user :)

Su-27 is early production 80's S version.

Edit: Go to controls (make sure you make changes to the F-15C module) - click axis assign on the low bar (or Axis from the top drop down category list). There you control axis instead of buttons. Make sure throttle control is assigned only in one column - that is for your TWCS throttle only.

No, it's not that. Before I got shot down (!) I ascertained this:

Throttle fully forward.

Both engines at just under 100%

Outside view confiirmed afterburner working fine.

By which time I was doing 150 knots on 5% climb...........

It's crazy..... Thank for your help anyway - I thought you worked for DCS because of your comment that current iterations of the F-15C worked fine. I can confirm it doesn't.

I just want to help so you can enjoy the module like the rest for which it's working fine. Unles you provide some screenshots, upload a track file or steps to reproduce you won't convince anyone that it's module's fault.

Only situation like you describe I can imagine - low speed, full AB, almost level flight - happens at high alt when hitting a ceiling around 60k.

Hi Pete.

As draconus suggests, your issue most likely stems from default control bindings providing erroneous inputs which cause your aircraft to stall. DCS will try to assign values to all controls connected to it, and cannot distinguish between the brakes and joysticks as an example. The result is, you'll frequently find thrust, pitch, and roll bound in multiple controllers.

Open the options menu, select controls and F-15C. Choose "axis commands" from the category drop down menu and the screen should populate a list of your connected controllers and the available bindings.

I'd first recommend clicking each controller's column and pressing the clear button to delete default bindings from each device you have connected. You can then double click on a binding in the appropriate column and assign the control.

For example:

In the Thrustmaster TWCS column, double click "Thrust" and move the throttle. DCS should detect the movement and assign the control (or you can choose it manually from the drop down menu on the new screen that has opened)

Some other quickies to get you flying:

"B" will cycle airbrakes

"F" will cycle flaps

"G" will cycle landing gear

"W" will apply wheel brakes

In response to question about F-15 training missions...

1. Never were.

Never? I have some recollection that there used to be some training videos bundled with the module (not interactive training missions) but that they disappeared a number of years ago on one of the updates when new training missions were released for the Russian FC3 jets. They were recordings of training missions voiced over by Wags that were based on much older versions of DCS and FC3, so perhaps no longer completely accurate, but still better than the "nothing" that seems to be the current distribution. Am I imagining this?

Relatedly, I've seen mentioned in some threads the suggestion that perhaps you do get training missions if you purchase the F-15 on a standalone basis. Is that true? If so is there a way to get them if a current FC3 owner?

I'm Softball on Multiplayer. NZXT Player Three Prime, i9-13900K@3.00GHz, 64GB DDR5, Win 11 Home, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 24GB, TrackIR 5, VKB Gunfighter III with MCG Ultimate grip, VKB STECS Standard Throttle, CH Pro pedals

Yes, there used to be training videos available to download some time ago. You can still find them on youtube. Mind they are of very poor quality. The training missions presented were from LOMAC. Standalone version had only some more instant action missions, that's all, no training.

600 km/hr @ 5800 m under full burner with no increase in airspeed suggests there’s a problem especially if you’re not in a steep climb. Since you are in AB, it doesn’t seem to be a controls issue. That being said, I have no similar issues nor do the others who have responded here. It might be worth reinstalling the module.

Sorry I'ver been out of touch for a few days.

Like the comment that unless I provide screenshots of movie no one will believe me! Ha!

I'm not some 16 year old I'm in my 60's but not computer savvy - I'm a musician, former pilot used to iMacs but with a new PC so I'm struggling with things like screenshots and the rest....

I really think that there was a drop out in download but I cannot report to DCS because they need screenshots and movies or Docs supporting the problem - so right now I'm in a Catch 22 (kind of)

I'll check control binds one more time.

However I would like to thank everyone who responded to help me sort this out. I do really appreciate your time and knowledge.

All the best, Pete.

Checked out any binds nothing.... perfect so far as I could see.

Repaired DCS.

Went into "Intant Action" 1 vs 1

Full afterburner = Max Velocity of 650knots at 20K, level flight.

This is supposed to be the fastest plane on DCS.

I've had a lot of time on the SU-27S. Absolutely no problems. Lovely piece of kit!

Thanks, again Pete.

650 knots at 20K feet is roughly 1200 km/hr at 6100 meters. This is what I get and, at the time of the screenshot, the speed was still slowly increasing:

EDIT: Text Removed

NEVERMIND. Question: Are you referring to IAS (Indicated Air Speed) or TAS (True Air Speed) when you say 650 knots? If the former, then you don't have a problem. That's about right for that altitude. The higher your altitude, the slower the IAS for the same TAS. My screenshot shows TAS. That would read roughly 1200, if set to IAS.

It’s becuase it would be easier for us to diagnose. Like if it was TAS or IAS or something else. Hope you solve your issue

Good catch Ironhand

@Stratocaster007: That's why screenshots and videos are so important. Image tells a thousand words. And this only takes one key press. "Prnt Scrn" on every PC keyboard is dedicated to it. After that you have a new nice file in the %userprofile%/saved games/dcs/screeshots folder. Then just send - attach the file to a new post.

At high alt and speeds a Mach number would be even better. If you want to see your M2.5 fly to 37k, drop everything and burn at level flight.

If something still holds you back go to controls>axis>throttle>axis tune and make sure your throttle go all the way to the max. Otoh there can be missiles or drop tanks slowing you down. Actually in IA mission 1vs1 BVR - 8 missiles cause the drag.

Thank you yes, I've just found PrtSc key! Give me a few hours!

And yes 650 knots is the Max I'm getting. If I pitch up by 5 degrees it drops to 150 knots. Alternatively I run out of gas quickly (1 or 2 minutes). Everyone's given me ideas (like checking load outs for gunfights etc, going up to 30k+.......)

Best, Pete.

The rapid drop in airspeed doesn't seem right for the little pitch up. This is where a track file would be extremely helpful. Are your flaps extended? Is it this? Is it that? Does the issue continue if we take control of the flight? Etc. Right now there's too little information and we're all guessing.

You can save the track after the mission. When you exit you are given the option to save the track. Name it and save it. Then upload it here. You do that by clicking the "Go Advanced" button under the box where you write your message. Below the Advanced textbox you will see a "Manage Attachments" button. Click it and, hopefully the rest will be self explanatory.
