104th_Maverick
It would be awesome if we could have an AI KC-10 added to the game, it would open up the ultimate AAR challenge for addicts like me to have a go at the dreaded 'iron maiden' basket refuel. Prior to flight the Boom Nozzle is removed and the BDA is installed so the aircraft is restricted to only Drogue receivers. The MPRS pods added flexibility. The KC-10A used a dedicate Hose Reel system. We could perform Boom and Drogue Refueling on the same flight. It takes about 5 minutes to run checklists to Stow the Boom, Trail the Drogue and perform a Reel Response System check. That being said, I too wish we could get "Big Sexy" in the game. I spent many...many years flying out of AL Dhafra AB and the Ramp just looks wrong without a slew of KC-10s parked there. Rick50
I like the idea too! I'm curious though, I thought I'd seen some very very old screenshots of KC-10's, back in the LockOn era ? Huh, ya, just found a screenshot! EDIT: Nevermind... tried posting what I googled but only the one pic isn't shy! But do a search yourself, you'll see they used to have a KC-10 backin the LOMAC LockOn days! The video showed a crude/easy AAR between an A-10 and KC-10. By easy I mean once connected it was all rigid, not requiring formation flying skills to keep getting fuel... the kind of thing that was common in games and "sims" of that era. WindyTX
It's a complete pain in the neck the amount you can manouver when plugged is tiny and the overtake allowed is 2 kts iirc vs 5 on a regular drogue. Given the limitations of our gear vs the real thing for responsiveness it's not something I would like to try in game and to make it worth it you would have to make the probe tip break of as it would IRL which would be a lot of work.
