Head movement Limits?

Is there a way to set head movement limits for each a/c in VR.

It's not a huge issue but, I'd like to be able to set a limit so that my "head" doesn't pass beyond the canopy or behind the seat when I'm in a dogfight.

Thanks,

Oh - misread; no there's no way just yet until ED implements something for us.

There's another (ww2) flightsim that goes by the name of a certain russian aircraft, which allows this option. I've tried it, but switched it off after 5 minutes because it was highly annoying.

As soon as my virtual head would exit the "boundary" it felt like the entire aircraft was moving along with my head. This breaks immersion much more than occasionally moving your head through the canopy :D

Yeah

A) I don't really find it a huge issue, aside from looking up/back where my head usually goes through the seat.

B) Frankly I like the option of walking out of my plane, checking it out, making sure the gear is down sometimes on servers that ban the F2 view, you know, stuff like that ;)

The only problem with having software-enabled limits to head movement is that you would end up getting vertigo as soon as your virtual head stopped, but your actual head continued in the same direction. That disconnect really messes with your equilibrium. You could always figure out a way to set up a physical barrier that you bump your head on. Might want to go to Ebay or Gibson and Barnes and get an HGU if you're going to do that though. It'll hurt less that way. :D

I would say an emphatic NO to head limitations myself.

I only do single player though so probably would not matter in my case.

Thanks,

I sit in a Recaro race seat (my race sim doubles as the flight sim, with different controls) and don't ever have an issue with this head clipping issue. If you can find a way to make your chair not move, should eliminate that problem for yourself (and others). Not saying to go out and purchase a full simulator, but only the financial statements would be upset, not yourself.

There are some kits out there, that easily remove the casters from normal office chairs (if that is what you are using), making them stationary and could also be a solution for you.

But truly, a high backed chair (like most any race car seat) would be of big benefit to you I think. Gives a furthest back point that you can actually go, and also gives a nice touch of realism when dog fighting as you can practice "pinning" your head to the seat in anticipation / limitation of high G maneuvers.

Cheers,

Add a harness to your chair to restrict your movement. You shouldn't be able to lean out of the cockpit if you're strapped in as in RL.

At first I didn’t use my belts, but did after a few beverages one night and haven’t got in again without doing so (wearing the belts that is, not the beverages bit).

I don’t understand the issue.

In a fighter you even help yourself pushing with the glareshield to look back. You’re restrained by the harnesses but you still can move! So you look around as much as your neck, body, chair and aircraft frame let you.

Exactly the same like in VR as it is now.

The only thing I don’t like is been able to go out of the canopy, crossing the glass/frame. THAT should be modeled and restricted.

Cheers

Yeah, I move around all over the place when dog fighting. Looking around all over the place when just flying - but have never had an issue where I encroach on the canopy glass or any other part of the airframe/seat. My seating position is fixed, because there is a “home point.”

Thanks,

Question: when you are sitting in the jet, prior to take off - is your view directly over your shoulders “in the game?” I will use the VR re-center key binding to achieve the perfect “home point” on initial entry to the airframe, and found it best to look down with the chin on chest. Then looking back up, my real shoulders line up perfectly with the virtual ones.

Not sure how they could model a hard point of the canopy as the VR sensors allow movement until you are out of the guardian zone / boundary of the sensor limitations. Seems like it would be incredibly difficult to achieve this in the game and software of the VR. Not sure regarding the LOD clamp / bias settings, and if that may be an experiencing issue.

Cheers,

Don

Ok, then please tell us:

What should happen when your head reaches this virtual border?

As said before. The only option would be a physical border

Please go and try the virtual border in the other (Russian) ww2 sim and report back here ;)

What you don't like the novelty of being able to sit on the wing?

The other day I stood up while at 25.000ft in my Hornet... What a thrilling feeling that is! I actually got shivers :D

Next time I'll aim a deskfan to my face for that extra bit of immersion
