[FEEDBACK]Servers stop appearing on the 'master' list despite being up.

I noticed this after a bunch of the players whom use the TGW servers contacted me to ask if there was anything I could do to fix it, as they could connect by a direct connection but the server was not displaying in the list.

 

On checking both server instances were up and running 100% fine, both were accessable from external sources (as I'm certainly not in the data center they are in nor is any one else) and one server had been up for over a week, but neither the DCS Server list on 'My Server' nor the main list showed either server, until I did a restart of both.

 

Now I'll admit that I messed up and forgot to grab the logs BEFORE I Restarted the server which means that this will likely end up with a [need logs] or something with it :/ but there was I believe a Token or simular error message happening in amongst the logs.

 

Is it possible that there is a token sync error or something happening between servers and the main match making/master list server if that server hickups or something that prevents the servers from then being able to display on the list?

 

I will keep an eye out and see if I can see it happen again though I've just moved one server to 6 hr rather then 18 hr restarts and another to 24 rather then just when crash.. But i'm going to presume I'm not the only server host that this is happening to.

 

 

Again I'll note the server itself is functional, accessable and working 100% correctly, you can get into it etc when this happens, it just is not showing up on the master server list at all.

 

 

Also is there a way we can have it so that servers can save like the last 5 logs etc.. That way if things like this are happening and we restart a server we don't accidently overwrite a log that might have information that can be used to help solve the issue.

I have made the team aware of this issue.

 

As to the suggestion about the logs, DCS only keeps the last two logs, dcs.log dcs.log.old

According to the logs, the server was connected fine for the first hour or so then this.. for 3 hours so far.. despite the fact that I can remote to the server and go to Digitalcombatsimulator.com or the forums or the like.... (with out knowing what to do a trace to no idea there) i've not changed anything at all but this started happening about 2 open beta patches ago around about 2.5.5's release

 

And after restarting one of the servers IT is working fine, connecting and talkign with ED servers they are on the same machine, so something is wrong.

Hi Rob, I to have encountered this error before a few times

2019-06-28 14:05:56.221 ERROR NET: Server update temporarily failed. Will try again later.

 

I contacted ED about it and I think it was a master server issue (it would not accept servers checking in)

 

I have about 800 log files from running our server in a folder (each time server restarts it moves and renames them, with the date and time)

 

Search complete, found 'HTTP request dcs:server:update' 1841 time(s). (31 file(s)).

 

So it has happened a bit over last few months (since May)

My squadron is running into this issue also. We have 3 servers, 2 running from the same IP space but on two different physical boxes using the Dedicated Server Client.

 

IP address: 47.188.42.117 Port: 10300

F99TH.COM Server 1 - The Fighting 99th Dedicated

 

IP address: 47.188.42.117 Port: 10310

F99TH.COM Server 3 - The Fighting 99th Dedicated

 

If I restart one dedicated server client, then it will pop up in the list but the other one disappears. If i restart the other server, it will pop up but then the first one disappears again. So it seems like the latest server to 'boot up' gets to show up in the server list.

One thing I changed that -may- seemed to have fixed it was changing the WebUI of one of the servers.

 

Even though both were running on two different boxes, they both were using the default 8088 for the WebUI. I changed one to 8087 and one for 8088 and now both of the conflicting servers are showing up.

Mine were certainly not running on the same WebUI, actually one of the big things that I double checked first off was ports not being in conflict, a 503 error is normally an internal server error on a HTTP request.

 

Right at the moment for at least the last 3 hours both servers have been showing up in the list with no NET errors to DCS, but last night for example both were reset at 6pm Australian Eastern Standard, and by 10pm both were giving the HTTP error and not showing up on the master list.

 

As both are running dedicated the -webgui isn't even used as per Chiz's comments and even if it was, the autoexec is showing

 

main server

webgui_port = 8085

 

second server

webgui_port = 8095

 

so there is certainly no conflict happening there.

Both are on different server ports etc. etc.

I have 4 OCG Australian servers running. Players are joining via IP as the servers are not showing in my profile or in the main server list.

 

 

If I shut down all servers and restart them all. Most times the servers all appear.

More info

 

Server 1 and 2 been running since about 8:30 this morning all working ok

both reporting in to master server correctly

Then server1 starts erroring and 503 when trying to report (dissappears off master list)

Server 2 on same PC continues to report in correctly and is still listed in server browser

Yes they are working, but do not show in server list. My profile shows I have no servers. When I log into my data center the servers are active.

Yeah getting frustratingly annoying to have to restart servers to get them to show up in The list again once this happens.

And it's not a routing error hells because that should effect all servers on the same box, given their route should be the same, when this happens you can have 1 sever remain on or simply restarting the server has it reappear in the list.

 

There is something majorly broken some were in the net link, either in the dcs server or in the maste list server, the 503 is as I said the error given by a http server for an internal server error, and of course it will 'timeout' on a 503 it's never getting the answer it wants from the master server because server error.

True. I restarted all the servers this morning and all servers are online. it affected all my servers.

 

Server 1 at my home, Server/s 2,3,4 at a data center.

None of them were available in either in the server list or my profile

The issue is that we get Session Check failed 503 right which should be the smoking gun for Eagle Dynamics to look at their end and the logs.. because 503 Error normally, note normally is a service not avalible etc. Error, I can have both servers throwing that error left right and centre and remote in, open google chrome and go to both digitalcombatsimulator.com and forums.eagle.ru, tracert will show no issues, ping will be the normal amounts etc.

 

If you can 'catch' it when it happens with a non server instance you'll notice that you get a FLOOD of unable to authenticate errors when you try and log in at the same time. *shrugs* the only way I've worked out to get around it is to restart the TGW servers if some one in discord or the like goes 'Servers aren't showing up in the list, but hey we can direct connect to them'.

The weird thing is Rob both our servers are on one box

I have seen it go:

1. One server is reporting in fine, but the other one is 503 ing

or

2. Both stop reporting in and are 503 ing

Here same problem. Server running fine but not showing up in profile / digitalcombatsimulator online list. tracert is giving me no hint :bored:

it looks like either:

1. The specific server instance stops sending "hello Iam up" to server

or

2. The server just doesn't want to acknowledge the server when it sends the "hello Iam up" packet to the server

 

 

From what I have seen 2 server instances running on the same server only one stops checking in, the other keeps working

the server (ED's server) doesn't want to acknowledge the Hello I am up Packet. That's the 503 error.

 

The only way to fix it seems to be to 'restart' the server, which i'm presuming gets a 'new' token from the Authentication/Master List server and resets everything.. But it shouldn't be happening full stop.

 

Between this and the AI not working properly bugs I've got the server process restarting every 6 hrs when before it could go 12 - 24 with out a restart.

Just adding to the thread.

 

There is a client side effect also, against all logic.

 

 

For years now I've only seen a limited number of servers from what is actually out there. It can be as low as 30 servers or as high as 120 servers that I see.

 

The list changes and they come and go and change every time I press refresh.

 

When I host a server, everyone sees it.

 

 

There's no reasoning I can see, happens to large popular servers to me, where other people dont have an issue seeing the same server.

 

 

I can be talking to a friend and he sees differently from me.

so this is still happening i have 3 server instances.. ALL on the same box, so they all have the same routing, same network etc.

 

 

2 of them are in the list. Our MAIN server instance however is showing this an HOURS worth of it

 

Every 12 minutes if you go through the log the servers do this

 

2019-08-02 12:48:29.318 WARNING NET: Session has expired. Logging in again...

Then exactly at 13:00:39.703 instead of that i get

2019-08-02 13:00:39.703 ERROR   NET: HTTP request dcs:checksession failed with error 28: Timeout was reached
2019-08-02 13:00:39.703 ERROR   NET: Session check failed: 503

 

and from that point on in the server we no longer get the login just the error.. so what ever is causing this is part of that but it's hurting servers as they drop off the list and from that point no longer are visible and you loose half your players as they go find one that is visible.

 

It's frustrating as hell.
