This Poll results showing exactly what I'm thinking about and expecting from VR headset to be for DCS.

Personally, I want Reverb as number one but my second choice will be Rift S. All others on the list are not competitive at all no matter is it old/bad performance or unrealistically high price and not offering much better for that money at all. Maybe just SO+ for 300$ as a third reserve option.

I think this two will be leaders in DCS VR community of course if someone else didn't show up like for example ACER with announced Ojo Concept D.

Seems my Vive pro is more exotic than a Rift CV1 - don’t think I‘ll buy a new one this year

That really should be two seperate polls. Own and purchase in one question is pointless.

‘purchase’ isn’t that useful in any case. we all plan on purchasing things (corvettes, jewelry for the wife) and most never follow through. so having a poll for “wants” provides dubious value

This poll tells me that most of the interest in new VR headsets for DCS is in the Rift S or Reverb. The Valve Index may have itself priced a bit high since many need the entire kit but it was also released late so time will tell. With the Reverb availability so low at the moment I wonder what it might of have been without issues and a better supply. I guess I am surprised that the interest in the Valve Index is so low.

88 folks at the moment own 126 headsets. I suspect the 38 own two and the rest one. Just a guess.

The Index - is only available is certain regions of the world and I am not in one of those. I would have probably got it otherwise

The Reverb - also no availability

Rift S - does not have the specs I want

Vive Cosmos - Still not available (but in the running when it comes out)

Interest in the index is not low. It's probably the best VR headset out there. But I think many of the people who bought into gen 1 VR, and are now looking for a new headset have come to realize that VR for the moment is best as a sit down, sim experience, so many of the extra comforts and improvements of the index are surplus to requirements.

For the price they are asking it's just not worth it, although as I already have the basestations I am wondering if I wait a while, how much I will be able to pick one up for.

I personally am probably not going to change from the standard VIVE just yet. If I even put PD up from 1.2 to 1.3 I feel it with my present settings, so I can only imagine what upgrading to a reverb would do to my performance...

I do feel the Index is worth it . Consider that if you add audio and faceplate solutions to the Rift S , the headset price alone is very competitive . And the increased field of view , generally better display and better build quality more than make up for the need to buy a base station , which , in any event , you need not do :)

Putting both what VR headsets you own and what you plan to buy in the future makes the poll pointless.

GPU: RTX 4090 - 3,000 MHz core / 12,000 MHz VRAM.

CPU: 7950X3d - 5.2 GHz X3d, 5.8 GHz secondary / MB: ASUS Crosshair X670E Gene / RAM: G.Skill 48GB 6400 MHz

SSD: Intel Optane P5800X - 800GB

VR: Pimax Crystal

CONTROLS: VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Base / VPC Constellation ALPHA Prime Grip / VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle / TM Pendular Rudders

I don't blame you ! (Sigh) if only it were as simple as plugging in new hardware . Seems i spend as much time tuning as i do flying sometimes . Perhaps the following thread will help...

Are you doing the supersamping in SteamVR instead of DCS? (PD set to 1.0)

For the F-18 in Free Flight Single player I see about 60 FPS near terrain and 90 FPS skyward (with the Reverb) with Motion Reprojection off. With it on DCS usually displays 45 FPS which is half of the actual rate using virtual frames every other frame. It really makes it smoother at moderate speeds next to to the ground. I do OC the heck out of the Strix RTX2080 card.

I have an Odyssey non +. I also just dropped the cheezy for a RTX 2080 ti and still only am getting around 35 FPS avg. 4.8 Hz K7700, 32 gigs of ram SSD. So I am a little miffed with DCS and VR right now.

So far, I'm not seeing any noticeable benefit to increasing SS in SteamVR above 100%. I do, hoever, notice that I get a lot more ghosting when looking to the sides, the higher I run SS. So, I just keep mine at 100% with a DCS PD of 1.0 on the Reverb. Its still leaps and bounds ahead of my CV1 in terms of clarity, but the sweet spot definitely sucks at the moment. I'm going to experiment with some weather stripping on the face pad to see if I can get the lenses a little further from my eyes.
