[PERFORMS AS EXPECTED] She is sooo slow...

Recommended Posts

Don't know why but the A8 is just so slow. Spits turning behind you and overshoot, there is nothing you can do with this plane. Is this really the butcher bird the brits feared?

The Mk IV Spitfire that we have in DCS was designed to beat the A-8...

The gap is too huge, little disadvantage ok but this is like flying the yak. It is a dead horse right out of the box which shouldn't be the case. Many players will complain ...

You mean Mark IX I guess? :P

When i briefly tried her afternoon i reached approximately 505km/h with ETC and approximately 520 without it at low altitude (10 - 15m above sea).

I agree, she is probably slower.

My guess, 15 - 20km/h is missing here for 1.42ATA :helpsmilie:

There is no need for a track Razor, the Spit is too beasty when turning in behind you. There is almost no energy loss with the Spit during a turn, even when the oponent does not turn and keeps flying straight. Ok, no problem, Dora has brutal speed and 109 can climb away or just stays fast aswell. All good here.

The A8 can't do anything, can't run, can't chase, can't turn, can't climb away. Even a strict boom n zoom tactic won't help. Way too slow, and it shouldn't be that slow. The Spit may outperform it in a turn fight, the Dora might be faster but the A8 was not THAT bad. Without much research, I think it should perform much like the Mustang. Not a good turner, not the best speed, not the best climber but overall a decent weapon to go to war.

The A8 in it's current state is the most useless plane we have in DCS WWII. You basically need a fighter escort to bring it near the target area. Horrible unrealistc ...

By the way:

I like that module a lot ! Sound is good but not perfect, handling is super easy. Takeoffs n landings are a breeze, rudder is well done and not that overresponsive ... Lot's to like, except the performance makes it unusable, which was not the case in real life.

Prop pitch was auto, MAD tried to find out how to get the manual pitch to work. There will be no change in speed, pich man or auto, the aircraft is underperforming and lacks the ability to:

Climb away like the 109 or the Spitfire,

run from or chase down an enemy like Dora, Mustang or 109,

turnfight with an enemy like Spitfire, 109, Mustang

The A8 brings nothing to the table, it is too weak overall and I don't buy this. It was a huge step in aviation and well known for it's versatility and power.

The plane we have right now is a lemmon and that's not right.

Again, performance put aside, I love that plane in DCS, really really nice to fly her arround. Wish the sound would be more like the Yaks radial but I never had the chance to hear an A8 engine in real life.

For sea level, 15°C temperature and 1013,25 hPa pressure the speed with 1.42 ata, full closed shutters and ETC bomb rack should be around 530-540 km/h. Without the ETC bomb rack it should be 550-560 km/h.

It is slow compared to the newer Allied fighters, very similar speed to the Spitfire LF Mk IX, but that one holds better acceleration, climb and maneuverability. So as I said in the dogfight thread the A-8 will be in a hard spot, specially against P-51.

The Fw 190 was really good when it came out, but the A-8 is a decrease in performance because it has more drag and weight because of bigger guns and more armor than the earlier variants, meanwhile the Allied fighters got significantly better from 1941/1942 to 1944.

The June 1944 variant modelled in DCS have the same 1700 HP power as the 1942 variant. In July a new engine setting was approved, with 1.58 ata in the first supercharger gear and 1.65 ata in the second gear increased power to roughly 1950 HP which helps with the increase in drag, making it slighty faster than the earlier variants, and mantaining a similar power to weight ratio. It still had higher wing loading thougj

The Problem is the versions of the Planes in DCS. The FW-190 was a feared opponent when it was new, but just like the BF 109 it was harder and harder for the FW-190 to keep up with newer allied planes because the germans did not have the same high quality fuel the allies had.

Tha A-8 is also not the greates fighter version of the FW-190, it got lots of armor and good Weapons, but because of this extra armor its heavier than earlier FW-190, making it less maneuverable and even giving it a lower Power to weight ratio than some older FW-190s.

With C3/MW-50 injection the power at low altitude should be similar to that of the Dora, but it seems we dont have those (yet?).

Of course the A8 can't hunt in Dora territory ! No problem at all. It is not as good as the Dora I get this.

The aircraft released today just can't do anything except spraying bullets. It should at least be able to compete with the other fighters, newer or not, whatever fuel or boost lalala, the performance gap is a joke. The current A8 feels wrong, dogfights are impossible. I can take a beating, sometimes enjoy it, learn from it and straighten up my crown again ... but that FM is off !

Yes, the Spitfire IX was developed SPECIFICALLY to counter the superiority of the FW 190A, which dominated the skies over Western Europe for several years. The Spit V was markedly inferior to the FW190A - a sitting duck. As I recall the Spit IX and the FW 190A trade slight speed advantages at different altitudes, with the Spit gaining finally superiority up in the range of its' 2nd super-charger stage.

If we recall the line-up of WWII aircraft ED has been speaking of developing, we will also see the P-47 (flying tank!), the Me 109G (much loved by the Finnish air force), the F4U Corsair, and other intermediate era warbirds. I would love to see a P 51B/C, myself!

At least the Spit IX, P 51D-30, and the FW 190A8 co-existed in the same skies at the same time in 1944, so we have some historical coincidence. Perhaps with some developmental tweaks, the FW 190A8 will feel more competitive, but, as Chuck Yeager said "It ain't the machine, it's the man". We will see FW 190A8 specialists and experts, working in pairs and hacking down spits and mustangs on the multi-player servers soon enough. The FW 190A8 will be feared in the hands of skillful pilots.

ppl what did you expect ?? that A-8 will be faster then D-9 ??

Nobody, really nobody complained the speed is not up to the Dora, the Dora is the fastest plane even without MW50, we need an A8 which is not easy peasy caught by a Spitfire (slowest plane).

I have to correct myself... :music_whistling:

I set map (Caucasus) to 15°C and 760mmHg conditions and tried it again.

Without ETC and cooling flaps close ... 535km/h

Without ETC and cooling flaps fully open ... 518km/h

With ETC and cooling flaps close ...522km/h

with ETC and cooling flaps fully open ... 506km/h

Altitude was between 10 - 15m above sea, full power, propeller auto and with auxiliary fuel tank empty.

So, if EDs A-8 is modeled on plane with 540km/h in report, then it is pretty close.

What I am trying to say: there will be no experts with the A8 in it's current state, I don't complain for nothing. It is useless, waste of time, they will rip your wings off. I tested it on burning skies, they fly through you. FM is off, heavy armor, fuel, boost, temperature, what not ... A8 should be able to bring a fight to an opponent. It can't. Night fellas.

No offence, but judge aircraft's performance on "experience" from air-quake server is IMHO the worst way hot to do it.

It reminds me time when several "aces" complained about the Mustang incorrect performance, again based on "experience" from air-quake server.
