Stratocaster007
I have a chance to acquire a new PC with RTX 2070. I'm confused as to whether this would have any advantage over say a 1060. The CPU is a i7-8750H. It's a laptop which I'll use for real world needs and connect to a larger screen for Sims. Please don't get too techy with me - I'm a musician and jut want to use a PC not examine my naval about it..... Appreciate any advice/help given. Thank you very much! Best, Pete. tintifaxl
If the laptop comes with 16GB RAM and a SSD with at least 500GB you should be good to go. The RTX 2070 is much better than the 1060 for DCS. Even the mobile ones. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
Mr_sukebe
Yes it would. The 2070 is "roughly" equivalent in performance to a 1080 and will be a marked step up from a 1060. System: 9700, 64GB DDR4, 2070S, NVME2, Rift S, Jetseat, Thrustmaster F18 grip, VPC T50 stick base and throttle, CH Throttle, MFG crosswinds, custom button box, Logitech G502 and Marble mouse. Server: i5 2500@3.9Ghz, 1080, 24GB DDR3, SSD.

That's true if you stick with a basic 10+DCS install and stop right there. 500 is a lot safer in the long run and should be the choice if you only buy 1 SSD. Mine is 256GB as well, but I have 4 SSD's and split my stuff between them, then 256GB for OS is plenty. Stratocaster007
Thank you very much, guys! It actually comes with 2Tb SSD and 2Tb of Hdd - I'll be using it for recording music too and that really eats up memory fast.... Best, Pete. Just a plucker from England living in New Jersey..... BuzzU
I also have a 2TB HHD. It's empty. ;) Buzz
Stratocaster007
I love your "signature" - not supposed to be connected to this thread but I guess I haven't reached nirvana yet. I just recorded some soundtrack music that used the equivalent of 145 discrete tracks (it was heavy on an Orchestral level). You can't get away from the fact that most of us have more computing power each than the complete Abbey Road Studios had in the nineties. Thanks, Pete.
