I wonder if the new round of Chinese tariffs is going to raise the price of VR headsets?

I wonder if this means it will be cheaper in Canada finally. Probably not though as they’ll jack the price here just cause they can

US adds taxes after the fact, whereas here in Europe we are used to see that included.

Oculus is one of the very few who has actually made it their policy to include shipping and taxes for your location in the store price.

If I take acount for my taxes and shipping I usually get charged for later, the S is €299..

Yes there are taxes, but the thing is we never benefit from the exchange rate on this kind of consumer product. At best 1$ = 1 €, but usually it's more due to taxes.

450€ is store retail price, before shipping cost to my home.

That being said, considering the price of the headset and the computer to run it...50€ won't make a difference :smilewink:

Remember that we have 20% sales tax in France :).

400$ at today's conversion rate is about 360 euros x 1.2 that's 432 euros. Still a bit less than 450 but hey :)

Happy Flying ! :pilotfly:

25% here.

And often shipping for something like this is €40-€50..

And they consider that as part of the price.

So it's 25 % on item+shipping..

And then they charge €13 as a fee to charge me the tax ..

Oculus charging €450 including taxes and shipping..

I got no real issue with that.

Like getting stuff from virpil you either just accept it's going to be 30% more to pay or you don't buy.

I did former, a lot recently..

Not to sure ill keep my preorder for The Rift S. Sounds like its even worse for night flying compared to the CV1. Reverb sounds the same also granted nice high resolution it has bad color and image quality throughout the spectrum

It's something similar in italy for goods coming directly from outside EU, 22% on value + shipping + 13€ to apply the tax (?!?!?).

So oculus shipped to me at 450€ all inclusive it's not bad. Can i ask where you live? Just for curiosity.

I'm also thinking to buy the base of the virpil to mount over it my warthog stick and also buy mfg crooswind to upgrade my rudder but need to find from where they ship, so i can calculate the real price. In short, it's a mess... :(

I don't know why people think Rift S is only a minor upgrade in resolution. Due to pentile subpixel configuration, Rift has 756 x 840 red, 1080 x 1200 green and 756 x 840 blue resolution (approximately). Rift S has 1280 x 1440 all red, green and blue. Unless you are looking at green scenery (trees etc.), with Rift S you will get x 1.7 improvement in resolution compared to Rift. What is nice is that this is only with a performance degradation equal to 1.2 pixel subsampling. I am not saying that Rift S is better than other HMD's out there, but it is day & night compared to Rift without sacrificing performance.

Well I for one am looking forward to finding out - not too much longer now.

Hopefully they are on track for their ship dates.

Guess them putting the release version of the 1.37 software out now is a good sign.

Finally somebody who has his facts down and goes deeper than just the base resolution on the datasheet. Kudos to you, good Sir!

Still not perfect, and the SDE looks barely any better on that shot. All the same, massively better than it was. Guess I’ll find out in 7 days.

Looks a little bit like manipulation ;) left image is smaller so it's obvious it will be less readable. This is no like comparison should look like.

It's taken by a guy trying to hold the hmd in one hand, while trying to grab a photo with his cell phone with the other.

Through the lens shots are meaningless.

Utter meaningless.

I might as well try to show the differences between a 720p screen and a UHD HDR tv.

But it's presented on your cellphone in a 720p video..

In short complete waste of time.

And it's not about resolution, it's a matter of medium.

You can see they showed three screen comparisons in that video and they all present different results. The second shows better image on the CV1 and the last is about equal on both.

It's not a proper test that would give repeatable results. It's useless.
