Windows 10 reporting a crash when exiting DCS.

Nightstorm

Recommended Posts

DCS Exits normally, or appears to, and log indicates; INFO DX11BACKEND: DX11Renderer::shutdown() on the last line.

Yet every single time I exit DCS my Windows 10 installation reports an application crash such as this, every single time it reads the same:

Faulting application name: DCS.exe, version: 2.5.4.29079, time stamp: 0x5c9bcc0c

Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.17763.348, time stamp: 0xca65c822

Exception code: 0xc0000374

Fault offset: 0x00000000000faf49

Faulting process id: 0x3b04

Faulting application start time: 0x01d4e80f338837d1

Faulting application path: F:\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe

Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll

Report Id: 397ed472-17b0-4c6d-9417-c4233f960612

Faulting package full name:

Faulting package-relative application ID:

Any ideas? It's not critical as the game works fine and I'm the one shutting it down, but it's annoying that I keep getting crash reports in the event log when it really doesn't appear to crash.

I have looked into this and tried to find whats causing the crash.

I can reproduce the crash.

For this tests I have set --force_disable_VR to just get the dcs window.

But I normally use VR and it crashes with that setting also.

Steps I have done:

Renamed save game folder so it wants to create a new one.

Repaired and removed files with DCS repair function.

The only time it shuts down without a crash is when there is no options.lua file.(or if the file is empty)

The next time dcs shuts down it will crash if the new options.lua it created the start before is present.

I have crashlogs from 2018-12-20 where it has started to crash when shutting down DX11.

Hi

a strange issue I will ask the team on Monday.

One thing I do notice is DCS is not finding any sound devices

2020-01-12 16:17:12.674 ERROR SOUND: FindAllAsyncDeviceClass has timed out with: 258

2020-01-12 16:17:12.674 INFO SOUND: Found 0 available audio device(s):

Try a cleanup and repair, I have a guide below, let us know how you get on.

thanks

Well I have sound and that error is in both log files.

Both the one when closing DCS is working and the one where it is crashing when closing.

As I described above, I have done cleanup and repair.

The game is working for me, it´s just the crash when I exit the game and filling upp my savegame folder with crash and dmp files.

About the sound, I haven´t noticed that earlier.

But in Audio tab in settings I only have Default listed in all sound and recording devices.

But the sound is coming where I want it.

Checked some old logs and in 2018 with my old computer it was the same:

2018-08-12 15:47:02.706 INFO SOUND: Using driver: xaudio29

2018-08-12 15:47:04.725 ERROR SOUND: FindAllAsyncDeviceClass has timed out with: 258

2018-08-12 15:47:04.901 INFO SOUND: loaded 1308 sdefs from "sounds\sdef"

And in 2017 almost the same:

00001.320 INFO SOUND: loaded 1231 sdefs from "sounds\sdef"

00001.514 INFO SOUND: Using driver: xaudio29

00001.535 INFO SOUND: XAudio2: channel layout: Headphones/Stereo

When I tested with DCS with too little RAM and/or PageFile I can provoke this.

Try to increase PageFile on a speedy drive, like SSD or get more RAM. likely that causes it.

* just saw, 32GB...try more PageFile, your RAM is plenty ( illern )
