Burger
I am about to spend a lot of my hard earned $ on a new system. It will be used almost exclusively for DCS (mainly Tomcat, Hornet & Warthog initially). I live in Australia & have a budget of $3000 (AUD) or a little bit over. I have settled on the following system from PLE Computers. Could someone more computer savvy than me (that's just about everyone) let me know what they think - is there anything you would do differently to optimize it for DCS? I am not into VR at present but probably will do eventually. Has anyone had experience with PLE Computers? Most online reviews seem pretty good (they offer free delivery, 2 years warranty). Many thanks for any advice. Lao Fei Mao
I would recommend 9600K CPU, which is quite easily overclocked at 5.0HZ, DCS needs a high core frequency CPU. And better use 2X16G instead of 4X8HZ. And RTX2080 is not a better choice than GTX1080TI if you don't play other ray tracing games. It's easily to get a second hand GTX1080TI at a descent price. Ravacoon
Just saying prebuild PC´s are (mostly) overpriced compared to self made computers. Well if you do not wanna build it yourself then it´s okay
mmaclauchlan
That PC is very similar in spec to mine, and I'm very happy with it. Running VR all high settings with a 1.8PD, smooth as silk in the Tomcat. In my opinion and experience with a nearly identical PC, that is money well spent. hansangb
I would recommend the K CPU as well. Core i7 8700K which gives you a piece of mind in overclocking your CPU. Also, you should look at delid'ing the 8700K CPU as it makes a big difference in cooling. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Burger
Thanks for all your replies, they are very helpful & much appreciated. Mags, can you please clarify what you mean by "1.8PD". And Hansangb can you please clarify "delid'ing". Excuse my ignorance. I should have added in op that I don't intend to build it myself as I wouldn't have a clue what I'm doing - I would rather pay extra upfront & know that everything has been done properly. Even "overclocking" makes me a bit nervous to be honest. Thanks again.

David OC
Hey Burger, Just to give you a good idea about cost, MSY is where I get my parts to build my PC's. They also sell built PC. I'm not saying to go with MSY. It's just a price reference for you. FragBum
I'd consider 9600K/9700K Z390 chipset. I've recently built a 9600K rig I had to buy CPU PSU and motherboard as I had some other hardware available from prior upgrades and kept the Rift in the budget otherwise I'd likely have gone the 9700K. Long story short with 32GB RAM and my old 1080Ti it's a great Rift VR rig. Basically for DCS clock speed is a clear advantage, followed by GPU and fast memory! Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above. Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic. Rossterman
As an fyi I have a i7-6700k overclocked to 4.5mhz and 2080ti evga black edition. Both run through a custom cooler. The CPU now is bottlenecking the game in VR mode. As others said, buy a cpu that will overclock to 5.0mhz. Multi-cores have limited value right now (with vulcan that might change). Also consider base model 2080ti version or stick with a 1080ti for ~ $400 usd if you can find one. Very little performance difference between the 2080 and 1080ti. Another advantage with a 9700k is it doesn’t need delidding as it uses solder insterd of thermal paster for the heat spreader. Finally you can fully custom and configure a computer on cyberpower PC. Imdid that with mine and pricing was about $100 more than buying parts and assembling it myself. Personally, the cost you stated seems way high for a 2080 and no water cooling. I just specd a 9700k a d 2080ti with cooling on both and 16mb of ram and it’s $2800 on cyberpower. BitMaster
I would not buy a non-K CPU and I would definitely go for a full fledged chipset and not the cut down version. It wont add much to your price tbh, maybe 100 to 150 more. If you want to overclock, get a liquid cooling setup.
