HP's Reverb VR Pro Headset

Looks like the Standard Reverbs may be a while (end of September). Amazon added the listing back selling it themselves Prime. I may be forced into a Pro direct from HP again or wait a month for a headset. Nothing bad about it other than the price is a lot more than I can get the Standard for from Best Buy. Best Buy has not made the Standard listing active again. On the other hand HP is controlling what gets shipped much more rigidly now.

Is there a price reduction for elite plus members? Was hoping to see if there was any difference.

I get 10% off for a birthday reward they are letting me reuse and 6% back for using their card. Then I have about $50 in rewards that came back when I just returned this one. I think the Standard cost me $460 plus tax. The early HP Pro I got was like $675 after tax. Then I can wait 12 months to pay for the Reverb no interest from Best Buy. I am always looking for a bargain I guess. LOL 45 day return period. Free 2 day shipping like Prime.

I just got a $20 off coupon recently which is why I was curious. I recently bought my girlfriend a laptop from there which probably bumped up my points. Unfortunately they don't have the pro or standard listed or I would also buy it there as I live 10 minutes away.

Right - my Best Buy is also ten minutes away (although the Magnolia store is farther when I did a home theater late winter). It's too convenient. :)

All of the 4K UHD movies we have in the home theater just about were bought with Best Buy rewards and on sale.

I wish our local Micro Center was a lot closer. They carry VR headsets as well.

I suspect it will be at least mid September now before the Standards are out again. Hopefully earlier.

I bought my Odyssey from microcenter. Too bad they don't have the reverb there since I last checked.

If HP gets their act together I think they will carry it. Several tech guys I know there play DCS. One helped me with my build.

Micro Center buys heavily from HP. HP has made the retailers a little gun shy with the Reverb and messed up introduction.

Thanks for the help, guys! I'll check it out.

Some great news though. I went back and re-did all the SteamVR display settings (except for the refresh as noted above) and reconfigured the in-game graphics settings, and needless to say the image looks a LOT better. Now I can really see a difference between this one and the Rift S. I was also able to find a way to get the headset on without it interfering with my glasses so there's no discomfort. The sweet spot seems to be much better now, perhaps I had a setting off or the headset not situated correctly, but either way it is MUCH more accpetable now. Regarding the refresh issue, I did update to the "WMR for SteamVR" to beta today, so perhaps there is a new beta and it bored something.

The cable is still annoying but I can live with that. I'm going to test it out a few more days but it's looking good so far :)

It's very likely it still has a ways to improve. :smilewink:

One improvement I use alleviates the cable issue is this VR cable management system. There are several around for $20 or you can get the bits off ebay or office depot for about $12. I have one above the computer and another above my head to take the weight.

There we were....two against a thousand.....so what'd we do....Shotem' both!!!!

Hi,

I'd like to know if there is an easy way to see the "hardware version" of the Reverb ? I believe HP changed some things between the first batch (available till July I think) and the one which is currently being sold ? Thank you.

Well i know there is a additional clip added between the headset and cable to the pc. That is the hardware difference between the first gen and second gen. The gen 2 has no heat and flickerproblems anymore that were there in gen 2.

I had gen 1 and now i have gen 2 :D

Productnumber hasn't changed in Gen 2 : 6KP43EA

New system:I9-9900KS, Kingston 128 GB DDR4 3200Mhz, MSI RTX 4090, Corsair H150 Pro RGB, 2xSamsung 970 EVO 2Tb, 2xsamsung 970 EVO 1 TB, Scandisk m2 500 MB, 2 x Crucial 1 Tb, T16000M HOTAS, HP Reverb Professional 2, Corsair 750 Watt.

Old system:I7-4770K(OC 4.5Ghz), Kingston 24 GB DDR3 1600 Mhz,MSI RTX 2080(OC 2070 Mhz), 2 * 500 GB SSD, 3,5 TB HDD, 55' Samsung 3d tv, Trackir 5, Logitech HD Cam, T16000M HOTAS. All DCS modules, maps and campaigns:pilotfly:

I just want to say a big thank you to all who post here ... especially tips like the shader mod and how many ms you get in benchmarking free flight with your 2080 Ti. I applied the shader mod and am very happy with Reverb performance with my 2080Ti and AMD Threadripper 1920x 3.7 - 4.1 ghz machine, 32gb 3200 DDR-4.

More importantly, you guys saved me a ton of cash. I was considering a i9-9900k with a top end motherboard and 32gb of 4000 DDR-4. Yet in these threads, I saw someone with that 9900 config, 2080ti, and shader mod getting identical timings that I do when running DCS F18 in VR with my current system. So I really would not benefit from an expensive new system.

Thanks!

What I don't get here is that on this screen my resolution is 1608x1576 is I set the slider to 100%. Shouldn't it be 2160x2160, native resolution of the reverb?

What am I missing?

The Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR Beta recently changed the scaling values sent to SteamVR. Without the beta you have the old (high) scaling values.

Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR Beta has been updated to 1.0.517. This build contains the following changes:

Improve scaling capability for HP Reverb

AMD 5800X3D · MSI 4080 · Asus ROG Strix B550 Gaming  · HP Reverb Pro · 1Tb M.2 NVMe, 32Gb Corsair Vengence 3600MHz DDR4 · Windows 11 · Thrustmaster TPR Pedals · VIRPIL T-50CM3 Base, Alpha Prime R. VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Base. JetSeat

I returned my Reverb yesterday. The clarity was very good, but for me, that's where the pros ended.

The resolution is better than the Rift S, but the Rift S is still very good and I have no issues reading the gauges in DCS.

In the end, the list of cons just exceeded the list of pros, and for me, didn't warrant the $250+ price premium over te Rift S.

In retrospect, I sort of understand why clarity is the only thing mentioned about the Reverb in so many forums....it's sort of the only aspect the HMD really has going for it (all things considered).

To those who do like it, enjoy your headsets! :)

just got my reverb.....

is it possible that i cannot tell a difference from Rift S to Reverb? Ive only played with the steamVR setting for a bit (uber confused) but for the life of me, I cannot tell a resolution difference.

Only difference is the stuttering and poor quality for buildings and ground when looking to the left or right...

Depends on many things. Your system specs, your dcs settings, your steam settings and if you are running steam vr stable or beta? Also if you are supposed to wear glasses or contacts.

Generally you should see a sharper image seeing how the resolution is supposed to be higher than the rift S.

tried both the stable and beta Steam... also tried all the custom resolutions, with no difference in DCS image.... no glasses, no contacts....

running an i7 7700k, GTX 1080 and 16 gis ram. I know its low end for Reverb but should not have anything to do with the image quality of the reverb, rather than how smooth DCS is...

Once I see Reverbs image is much better, I can upgrade PC, but so far it looks just like the Rift s

Is a Reverb owner so nice and tests with this program USBDeview how much power the Reverb pulls out of the USB slot?

Is it 500mA or 900mA ?

Which Windows 10 version do You have?

1809 has a bug that blurrs the WMR headset.

1903 has a fix for this.

If they look the same the Reverb isn't setup properly yet. Can you post what your SteamVR video resolution page looks like. Of course the Reverb doesn't have the SDE the Rift S has.
