HP's Reverb VR Pro Headset

Haven't seen anything posted on this, but it looks like a worthy upgrade to my Odyssey (and anyone with a Vibe or Vibe Pro.)

2160x2160 per eye, at 90hz refresh, and 114 degree FOV, all for $599. It uses the WMR platform and controllers, though of course the controllers won't matter much here. The reviewer also notes it's a lot more comfortable.

 

No, it's not a massive revolution in the VR experience, but it should be drivable with a good PC and provide a significant bump to rez and FOV. Looking forward to this one. Available in April.

I have the best hardware the money can buy apart from the graphics card (gtx 1080ti so second fastest card in the consumer world) and i cannot get an odissey+ to run with satisfying results on dcs I don’t see how dcs could run on a similar headset

My O+ runs satisfyingly for me based on my specs (sig) - some lower graphics settings in DCS notwithstanding.

My O+ always ran fine in MP with pretty aggressive settings. My Pimax 5K+ on the other hand, I will 100% need to upgrade to a 2080Ti to achieve the same.

 

But on topic, $599 for a HMD with no IPD adjustment? No thanks.

Pimax is gonna launch his version of that this week, they had support from NVIDIA, but it's only for RTX card with Nvidia Variable Bitrate Shading.

 

I'm eager to see it in practice how much of an improvement is, or if it's just smoke, but I have faith on it.

This new offering from HP seems tempting..

Better resolution without getting crazy on features, very slight bump in FOV.

 

Nice to see a HMD mfg being realistic.

Yeah, this is the one I've been waiting on, It was actually posted about a month ago when annouced. Glad to see the release date and pricing are quite reasonable.

 

This will probably my goto for a "gen2" purchase, depending on which VR interface it uses (i.e. if it works with DCS).

 

For those with a rift, this is gonna be about 4x as many pixels to push. But I think you won't need as much "pd" for it look good. Those 2160x2160 screens have gotten very good reviews.

Tempting. Very tempting. I reckon the two camera tracking should be perfectly adequate for seated games, although some over at r/oculus are a bit sniffy about it.

 

If Rift S had the same screens.....

The thing looks alot like a rift, so I'm really really wondering. But given the statement they made about modest upgrade in terms of res I bet the Rift S has worse screens. From other articles it uses the WMR runtime, so it "should" work for DCS.

Yes, they say also SteamVR, in a worst case scenario, ED shold have to do some small changes to properly support everything.

 

At this moment, it seems the best HMD for flihtsims, if you have a graphics card to move it.

And it seems is gonna release before Cosmos, that has similar resolution.

 

Let's wait till the end of GDC, it's rumored that Valve is gonna introduce his new HMD.

Oh say it ain't so Joe! Stupid Pimax spoiled me on FOV. I was PERFECTLY happy with Rift and Odyssey. Ugggg. Good times for us VR'ers though.

FFR is already out in the Pitool beta and it's not very good. It looks pretty bad and it doesn't result in much of a performance gain.

Its a newer standard is my guess. More of the market might be using mini display ports.

It will likely have better PPD than the pimax. Plus at that price point, the lenses are probably better too.

I think I'm going to wait for OLED screens. My Odyssey+ will have to hold me over till then.

Do WMR controllers work in DCS like the touch controllers do?

 

If so, this may be my upgrade...

Yeah, if I had an O+ id be on the fence too. But clarity wise its supposed to be a decent step up. For me its a no brainer as I have an OG rift. Unless the rift S is beats my expectations.

It should be a big step up - it's not only more than twice as many pixels, it's also an RGB screen instead of a pentile screen so the sub-pixel difference is massive. In pure pixels it's 2.1 million vs 4.6 million per eye, but in sub-pixels it's 4.1 million vs 14 million, in the same FOV. There should be essentially no screen door whatsoever with this headset and the extra detail should be massive. Just for comparison, I'm hearing that the Reverb will have 25PPD, this is what the other headsets have right now (I stole this from someone else, so the Pimax 5K isn't here):

 

DK2/PSVR 960/100=9,6 PPD - 89% (-11% to CV1/Vive)

CV1/Vive 1080/100=10,8 PPD - 100% (referent point for comparison)

Pimax4K 1280/100=12,8 PPD - 119% (+19% to CV1/Vive)

Odyssey/Vive Pro 1440/100=14,4 PPD - 133% (+ 33% to CV1/Vive)

 

Pimax8KX 3840/150=25,6 PPD - 237% (+137% to CV1/Vive)

 

The Reverb is a massive leap in PPD - basically to the level of the Pimax 8KX but in a normal 110deg FOV.

I've not been a follower of WMR headsets up to now, so know very little about them. Does WMR have any type of motion smoothing similar to ASW and ATW?
