Georgia Russian Border Tensions

Recommended Posts

Hopefully nothing comes of this, but it illustrates the political tension in the area.

Does anyone who has seen the new map in detail know if this area is in BS?

Is this the only area in the Black Sea where border tensions exist? I dont exactly follow the news day to day in that region of the world. What about the west side of the Black Sea, Romainia, Bulgaria, Ukraine? Guess no news is a good thing.

Other articles reported, that is was a 1000 kg missile, possible launched by a SU-24.

KH-25 (AS-10) would be too small, it's only about 320 kg.

KH-28 (AS-9) would fit better with 720 kg.

KH-58 (AS-11) is about 640 kg.

KH-59 Kegler (AS-13) fits best with 930 kg.

Guys, time to do a reality check. It was probably drunk russian pilot straying off from the excercise area and mistaking the georgian village for a terrorist chechen camp.

Hey, sh*t happens, and in this case, there was some vodka in the mix as well.

No, I don't think the BS map goes as far East as that region. I reckon it is 100+kms to the East of the edge of the new terrain in BS. If I found the correct place on a map, it is well inside Georgia, more than halfway to the Armenian border.

This really becomes a Flaming Cliffs story:

Quite Right - At the first RMAX SAM launch you just know your AI Wingie is climbing on Comms with "Engaged Defensive" coupled with the inevitable "Entire Ordinance Payload Jettison" phenomenon.......:pilotfly:

This report claims it was a 58:

MOSCOW, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The unexploded bomb found near the town of Tsitelubani in Georgia on Monday evening proved to be a Russia-made missile, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday night.

A tactical anti-radar guided missile Kh-58, or AS-11 Kilter in NATO classification, produced by the Russian design bureau Raduga was fired on Georgian territory on Monday, the ministry said.

Other reports claim it was jettisoned after the Fencer was fired upon by a Strela. From the sound of it, it was a Strela-2.

He-he. It appears to be a good time for military equipment collectors...

Then I would like to pick up a Sidewinder, to get an appropriate power supply, and a good maintenance manual to play with the item. Much of questions regarding the seeker head could be answered. Dreams... :D

Its was said it was a Su-24 launched kh-58. When they detected an intrusion then they turned off the radar causing the missile to fall to the ground!

Sounds like somebody is setting the two countries up!

Quote from Link of Raised_Dead85:

"The Russian missile missed its target because the Georgian military switched off the radar after it had detected the intrusion and the missile's launch, Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Zurab Pochkua said Thursday on Rustavi-2 television."

Would this not cause the Missile to go Ballistic and/or Self-Destruct rather than falling to the ground?
