One question if I may.  Some of the missions include hot started aircraft with no fuel. Can they at least have 5% fuel please.

No.
The aircraft engines are supposed to be "off" but "warm". DCS does not allow this so we start then "hot" but with zero fuel. This makes the engine shut off before the pilot can taxy. This is effectively the same as off and warm.
this is the only way we can achieve what we want.

Makes sense, thanks for the explanation.

My thanks also to the very nice chap who gave me a warning that I had a P51 on my tail this evening.  Ended up with my A8 looking like Swiss cheese, but still made it back to base safely.

One question.  At what point is it OK to "exit" the server, and not have that counted against you.  My current assumption is that I need to be on the ground, not moving, engine off.  Is that correct?

Pilot dead, or
In parachute, or
On the ground and stationary (engine can be on).

Hi Phil,

Great work overthere!!

Just a question from  an absolute beginner.

I don’t find the option “hostile” on F10/others, just  only  response for friendly aircrafts. Spot radar alert for enemy  works during the flight but no option on menu F10. where am I wrong?

Friendly aircraft contacts are available from the F10 menu "on request".

Hostile contacts are reported periodically to you (you do not request it). You will see the contacts in the top right of the screen (by default).

If you use SRS, then other pilots or the fighter-controller (GCI/ATC) can give you callouts too.

Can you guys add the I-16 to the aircraft selection. I love that little thing more than all the other warbirds in DCS...

No, sorry.  Storm of War (SoW) is not a general WW2 aircraft server, it is a Normandy campaign server. The SoW mission set is specifically for this Normandy campaign and a limited date range therein. Although there are some anachronisms which we make, to compensate for the limited amount of WW2 aircraft and assets available in DCS, the use of the I-16 would be far too much of a jump for our scenario.

Hi there,

I’m new to dcs wwii and First of all I want to congratulate Everybody who made and keep this server running. Thank you so much. There is nothing anywhere close to this level of realism\immersion.

How do you check weapons availability? In the breafing I see aircrafts available per airfield, i can see details like recon or +wingman, but I can’t Find weapons references in the breafing. Is my understanding that playing Allied, bombs and rockets are available at english airfields and some French ones (limited units).  Lets say I fly a p51 and I choose a ground attack mission from a French airfield. I can request rockets an after “rearming complete” if counter reads 10 means no rockets. But with bombs I don’t find a way to know if I’m are carrying them other than take off and get a feeling for it. What am I missing?

Also, is there any way to know your spawn parking position at any airfield? I really appreciate no external views and no map contacts but I waste so much time trying to figure out my position in airfields I’m not very familiar with 😅

Thanks

1. The explanation of what weapons are available is provided in the briefings. You will find this under NOTAMS OR just above the description of the air-to-ground taskings for that mission. See the image below as an example.
2. DCS does not provide spawn-position information when the F10 map icons are off (which is the case on SoW). However, you will get used to the airfield layouts and spawn locations, just as everyone else has. Your compass in the cockpit, the position of the sun and the windsocks can help you work out where you are on the airfield. Part of what it means to fly on Storm of War is to learn these kinds of things (airfield layouts, runway orientations, major landmarks etc). It's all part of the intended learning process that comes with flying on the server. It is true that this is not necessarily the easiest option for newer players, but this is an accepted design principle with SoW.

3. Do NOT use the load-out pre-sets from the drop-down menu. Click on each pylon on the aircraft to check was is available, and what is loaded on.

Thank you so much philstyle for your fast replay,

1. Oh my... i may be blind! Sorry about that i didn´t see it

2. Obviously to be able to see yourself in f10 would ruin a big part of realism/inmersion( I´m trying to don´t use the kneeboard "locator" option for this reason), i thought i could be missing something.

3. Didn´t know that, and what an important piece of information it is :)

I´ve seen many videos of DCS with this modern birds and i was never called into it. That was until i discover DCS ww2 thanks to your youtube channel (an a couple others). Your channel is SUPERB! Few weeks ago I got the p51 to give it a try and i am already an adict. I come from 25 years of general aviation simulation and i feel now as "raw" as i felt all these years back.  I´m a total incompetent newcomer 😅 I see how great is the learning curve but i´m enjoying it soooo much! I have a lot of traning to do, nevertheless i try to connect to SOW regularly to listen coms and also get some "real" deal feeling with the main objective of returning safe (not always achieve). I´m loving the server so much so far and i can only imagine in the near future how much fun i will get from it. At the moment i will focus on ground missions because i went up (escort) a couple of times and i was not ready for it. I can´t communicate effectively just yet and i felt instead of beeing helping i was on the way somehow. But step by step, i don´t know when but i´ll be there

Hey Philstyle love your server and all the hard work that has been put into it. I was wondering, since the FW-190A8 gets a warm...fuel free start, is there any way the P-47 could get that as well as an option from the English bases? It might encourage more people to lug bombs and rockets across the channel in the early missions if they could cut down on the 5 to 8 mins warm up from over there and it would be in line historically. I'm a time sensitive player myself since I get online pretty much as long as the kids are napping for about an hour so every minute counts for me.

Wanted to say the same i am loving the server and flying aircraft that can be a challenge.  wanted  to ask how often do the pilot stats get updated. And where would i join a squadron.

1.  Stats are normally updated every 6-12 hours. See this link:  https://stormofwar.info/about.php#delay  (looks for the "Delayed updates to stats" section).

2.  Squadrons that regularly participate on Storm of War can be found on this page: https://stormofwar.info/squadrons.php . The "preferred" column indicates the module that they have flown the most recently, although some squads vary a lot. You can also simply fly on the server and make a note of other groups (or individuals) that are flying at your normal flying time. You can contact individuals via these forums, or the Storm of War group on Steam. Or (probably most effective), you can reach out to squads is via the Storm of War discord. https://discord.com/invite/4Csg6E7
