Stuntman
Thanks to all that flew this mission Friday night. Lots of players, mostly balanced teams and exciting to have an Axis GCI / radar operator to give us Allies an extra challenge and aiding the Axis team. The sunset was wonderful. Here's a little run and break after engaging multiple gaggles, claiming a 109 and an Anton and coming out alive. This sim is beautiful. Tru3n0
Just gonna throw my 2 cents in.. If you want MW50 and fast action there is another WWII server for you. IF you want a 'closer to historical' game play experience in DCS. SoW is your best option (afaik). The guys at SoW put in a fair amount of effort to get this as close to their vision as possible (with the tools available). I've never seen so many historical primary source documents from WWII (i.e fuel delivery dockets, etc) to justify why or why not something is available. The amount of knowledge and enthusiasm in the community is quite impressive. I fly the K4 pretty much exclusively. I used to think that the plane needed MW50 to be competitive. Now, that is less the case. (This month 49 kills, 15 Deaths and 14 Bail outs). For people that say the K4 (with no MW50) is better than than the spitfire.. you need to learn how to fly how to fly the your crate better. For people that say the K4 is not competitive (without MW50) you need to learn to fly your crate better. In the end, it always comes down to the pilot. (That last sentence is often hard to accept). philstyle
A delay has been added to the in-mission radar script. This delay is still far shorter than the "real time" information lag from WW2, but it brings us a little closer to a more realistic RADAR output. Obviously, the best information will always come from a human player doing GCI (JaFü or KENWAY), so players are advised to take advantage of SRS and tune in to the human controllers when they are online. chris_lancaster
Hi, In my opinion a response of 15 seconds 20 at most would be better? Also is there need for a delay in friendly positions, as they would just surely shout up on radio where they were? Ta anyways There are very specific reasons why we have 30 seconds, but that won't become clear until more server features are rolled out. Friendly aircraft reports are not supposed to be delayed.... last time I tested they were instantaneous. . . Dusty44
This server is the most fun I have had in DCS in ten years. If everything seems under control, you’re just not going fast enough.

xvii-Dietrich
Update: There have been some major changes made to the statistics system for the Storm of War server. Stuntman
30+ players on the DCS Storm of War server made this escort tense, a low level raid from England to Caen and back. The Axis team had a RADAR controller and the radio was constantly buzzing with activity of engagements. Scanning the sky, waiting to be bounced, but they all made it back. Welcome home. Stuntman
Reenacting history in an authentic environment together with like minded enthusiasts is a powerful experience, unlike any other type of game. philstyle
MAJOR MISSION UPDATES to go live at the start of the next mission (which will be about 2 hours after this post): v74 and v75 Combined updates to all missions. In order to facilitate the introduction of LotATC as the server's Air Group Controllers / Ground Controlled Interception tool, the following changes are made to all missions: The JTAC roles have been updated to provide ONLY visual information (no F10 map icons) at a specific set of airfield locations. This is designed to allow players to act as airfield traffic control, via Combined Arms, using the "Fire Control Bunkers" as Control Towers. F10 Map Fog of War has been added. Unit visibility is set to allies only. All units EXCEPT for the "driveable" units are set to hidden. The only units the JTAC will see on the F10 map are the ground units which they can take physical control of (Fire Control Bunkers). Aircraft will not be visible on the F10 map for JTAC roles any more. The bullseyes for both sides have been moved to the same location. Mention of that location has been added to the missions briefing. Placement of the bullseye is dependant on the specific target and unit orientation for that mission date. All AI formation pilots have been renamed with an "AI" prefix. A full description of the new RADAR and CONTROLLER functions is available here: https://stormofwar.net/server-radar-aircraft-control/ Weather has been updated for all missions. Turbulent air will be present on all missions where there is wind above 3 m/s. Turbulence will scale based on wind speed and historical conditions for that day. Turbulence will be most obvious at low levels and reduces towards 5000ft/ 1800m. Flying at low altitudes will therefore be increasingly difficult on windy days. xvii-Dietrich
We have now added a web-based monitor for the Storm of War server. The motivation for this is to assist our GCI controllers (Kenway/JaFü) as we expand our human-controlled radar system, but it is available for everyone to check on the server status. https://stormofwar.info/ We'll be adding more data/statistics to this as time goes on and improving the layout, but the basic data is now there. Aircraft will show up on individual pilot pages too (see the "pilots" list). A summary of the different aircraft types is provided.
