We are also seeing this same crash, approximately 5-10 times per day on our OpenBeta Update 9 server. It's always preceded by GRAPHICSVISTA: Can't open model LAU_127. I suspect it's tied to some player activity, but I can't determine what. In-game, all other multiplayer players freeze in space but the local client can continue to move around. Eventually the DCS process reports that it's no longer responding and the server crashes.

Again I'm with drex and other admins who experience the game breaking crashes. They need fixing. Multiple people i have talked to have spent their money on DCS modules just for Multiplayer. I only have my modules because of MP. I have zero desire to play SP again, thanks to game breaking bugs and crashes. Without multiplayer support on DCS, i see quite a few other players leaving for other simulations that offer better customer support.

 

No insult intended. Just expressing serious concerns about the longevity of DCS with the apparent lack of consideration for multiplayer.

the last few patchs for DCS have been complete trash for multiplayer, cant fly a full session without crashing to desktop or being kicked to the main menu. (there were NO other programs/systems running that interfere with DCS)

all but 1 of my owned modules were purchased because of MULTIPLAYER.

and seeing ED not talking to Drex just makes it seem that ED doesn't care,

 

if Bad PR and look is what your going for keep it up cos thats where ED is heading in my eyes

This looks like there is lookup trying to find a character in the string and not having terminated the string correctly (null-character). According to call stack it is from Lua-scripting so it might be the script-file or Lua-runtime itself somehow contributing to this (bug might be in the Lua script parser actually).

 

C++ style string-class usually knows to stop looking after end of string so that would be less prone to this problem, older C-style functions don't have input for maximum string size and this can happen when string isn't null-terminated for whatever reason.

This looks more like buffer was not allocated after LAU_127 model was not found and feeding NULL-pointer to strchr() - might be same in both cases actually, depends on how things are implemented in lower-level.

Probably, just to confirm though - removing carriers from the mission stopped the crashing. So there's something about Hornets arming on the carriers that causes that crash.

 

Not sure if it's relevant but 104th say there's a 'carrier desync' bug that they've worked around in their latest mission and they're not letting people get Aim9x's from the carriers. Possibly just needs more going on. I tested it by jumping on the DFA server that was running with a spawn on carrier mission, loaded Aim-9Xs and left the server., server didn't crash. Didn't do startup, or move around, or land on it to rearm Aim-9X, or even do it with other people on the server. Maybe all it takes is just one extra client, but that is not something easily testable by myself.

 

Donno what they are talking about on the 104th. There has been a bug that annoyingly is still present where only the host is effected by limiting munitions on ships. All clients don't see any warehouse restrictions and can load anything to their hearts desire. Unless they are kicking people back to spectator the moment they detect an Aim-9X while onboard the ship, they can't actually stop you.

No one from the 104th said that.

 

 

What we said was when the dsync bug is fixed we will only allow the Aim9X on the carrier.

 

 

Clients who want to use the Aim9X will have to fly back to the ship to get it.

 

 

We have had 0 crashes relating to clients shooting off the carrier with any weapon load out.

As I said above - I cannot replicate from your track or the exact steps in your video on a MP server. 104th and BlueFlag MP servers have Hornets and are not suffering from the issue.

 

There must be more to it unfortunately that just a hornet and that rail.

 

Can you replicate in SP on a simple mission?

This crashes the server, not the client, so reproducing in SP likely won't be possible.

 

Repro steps:

 

> Load into a Hornet

> Re-arm/Refuel

> Select AIM-9X with lau-127 pylons

> Wait until ground crew says "rearm complete"

> Leave server

> Server crashes

 

This repro'd on the ground on DDCS. It only seems to occur when you leave the server/quit right after re-arming.

I think I just found the solution, I saw it has VCRUNTIME in the message, I started to think, maybe this had to do something with VC studio dependancies and when you do a repair, it reinstalls these third party required dll's to run the game.

 

I think an earlier install/update of this game (2 weeks ago), did not update my VC library on the server.

 

so EVERYONE that gets the VCRUNTIME error, do a "DCS_updater.exe repair" - you will see it go and get these run-time libraries, server has been fully stable ever since, I even see it fixing OTHER problems too that have the VCRUNTIME error in it.

I am guessing they updated the libraries (good news!)

Good sleuthing. I just saw this post today and ran the repair. Hopefully that solves this crash once and for all. I'll monitor over the rest of the long weekend and post back here if it did not.

Nope, this is still a problem.

 

 

Yesterday, I first ran the DCS repair, and the server crashed a few hours later. Today I migrated Caucasus OpenBeta to a different server, uninstalled all of the Visual C++ Redistributables, and installed a fresh copy of OpenBeta. I also let it generate a fresh Saved Games\DCS.openbeta profile folder. It didn't take long for the server to crash twice from this same bug in under an hour. Log attached.
