VR Shaders mod for better VR experience

Recommended Posts

Literally don’t have this problem, try this, remove the mod see if the reflections are still there, they will be… but do it so you understand what’s going on.

then download a mod to remove the reflections from the ka50, I use this one

I have installed successfully the shaders, I know because it took significant time to load and fxo/metashaders folders were getting new files. Then I also noticed that cockpit was missing/transparent which after reloading mission it was fixed.

But I see no difference in fps 😞 anyone faced the same behavior? It was 40 before and it remains the same after.

I'm guessing, you are using an OCULUS headset and at also at a  guess you have ASW turned on, you will not notice any direct improvement as a result, what will happen is that there will be less instances of you dropping out of ASW into reprojection...  what the mod does is reduce the CPU and GPU frametime, so ASW masks any improvement ...

oh OK 40 is an odd refresh rate to be locked at for G2 its normally 45 or 90 or some arbitrary number. dont worry about ASW, create a separate thread under VR and post your settings there, i have a 3090 but you can likely use my settings as a start

I just installed the shaders mod on a clean DCS install and my performance is actually worse now. Really weird, it would normally improve the performance but for some reason it makes it worse. My frame time went up from 22-ish ms to 30-40 ms (45 hz, reprojection on  with Reverb G1). Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

EDIT : Just figured out I had reprojection on in WMR AND SteamVR.  For some reason , putting the reprojection ALWAYS on in SteamVR doesn't actually do anything. The only way for me to get reprojection to work is by putting motionvector in the WMR text file.

Do you have HAGS (Hardware-accelerated-GPU-scheduling) turned on in Windows settings-graphics settings. From memory I think this screws with the auto motion-reprojection mode. Try turning it off.

HAGS is off. But I just noticed that my advanced display settings is showing 5 monitors! 1 is my monitor...not sure what the other 4 are but I assume it's my Reverb screens. I remember removing this option 6 months ago but have since reinstalled windows. Is it called something like virtual monitors?

Pre Allocated Monitors. They can be zapped via the registry or alternatively try this tool, it offers a bunch of additional features too

Any way to bring back VR mask option? 2.7 one looks that it dont work with Steam VR (it does with Oculus API)

This is interesting. I've been using this mod for a while now and always assumed that when I used it to make the glass transparent, it was also getting rid of reflections. But it's true, in the Ka-50, I still see the reflections too.

So is that the case? The mod makes the glass 100% transparent, but still leaves reflections? I didn't think so, because in my Spitfire and other planes, I don't see reflections. Only seems to happen in the Ka-50. Curious!

Thanks for the link to the Ka-50 reflections mod, by the way, installing it now!

ETA I just wanted to add, this mod is incredible. Gets me from 32 fps and stuttering to an almost solid 45!

to the best of my knowledge there is no way of re-enabling the mask by flipping a bit somewhere... if there is it would be by adding

#define ENABLE_HMD_MASK       1 // Enable hidden area masking for HMD (adjust MASKSIZE to fit your headset)

into the _HMD.hlsl file, i honestly havent tried it and dont expect to work, but thats your best bet

May I ask how you "mod out reflections"? Is there a file that can be edited for each plane? I thought that's what your mod was doing tbh.

Do you have any pending Windows updates ?

I ask because I didn't get the ED VR Mask via SteamVR for a couple of weeks after 2.7, then it suddenly started working immediately following a Windows feature update for version 2004

its not my MOD.

to answer your question, it depends on the aircraft, the viper and hornet both have options to remove the canopy reflections in game.  for others you have to edit out the refelections from the canopy glass image.  If you go to the mods/spitfire thread you can find it it there for spitfire other aircraft may also be available look for clear cockpit mod or similar

I'm having some issues with this mod and wanna throw it out there to see if any others are having same issues.

  • First of all, loading time is unbearable.  The first time loading the module is huge (Syria takes about 20 minutes first time) but it seems like everytime it loads new asset, it takes extra time to recompile shaders for that new asset.  It did this in 2.5.6 too but not this long.  Was more like 5 minutes at most.
  • MFD/HUD texts and lines are more jagged.
  • There's couple second pause first time using Maverick.  I believe it's from recompiling shaders too.
  • Performance hit of some of the improvements are pretty big now.  Albedo for example causes 1ms hit.
  • Lastly, this is strange one.  I get about 3ms better performance with this mod.  But despite what the stat says, I get more ghosting with the mod.  It's actually smoother without it.

And I can't troubleshoot what's causing some of these issues because the loading time is so huge whenever I uninstall/reinstall the mod.

hmm initial load times are high but theey have always been that way for me, but nothing like 20 mins,  i do get that with new assets but its considerably shorter, not seeing additional jaggies on the hud though i know Iain says he gets a big Z through the raddar track.... or pauses on Maverick launches ... not sure about the smoothing in what mode is it not being smooth... did HAGS get turned on ?
