Shaders mod for better VR performance (experimental)

Recommended Posts

I recently installed latest stable version 2.5.5.41371 and applied the specific mod version for it. I´m fine with it except.. cockpit shadows are much too dark. Had that problem way before and could resolve it, but cannot recall how. I regenerated fxo and metashaders, tried to disable or enable some options in _HDM.hlsl but no lock, regenerated shaders again etc.. no luck.

Does anybody know what to do about this?

I was slightly frustrated with poor performance when playing in VR with the new deferred rendering engine, so I had a look what would be possible to remove/simplify from the shaders to improve the fra

For anyone interested, I've just tested DCS VR Shaders mod for 2.5.6.50321 (Clear Water, IC Pass) on the latest, Dec 17th 2.5.6.59398 Open Beta. Works perfectly on Caucasus and Syria !   Whi

all you have to do is update your sim when a new patch drops. The mod will get placed in a backup folder in the main directory (if you are like me and just drag/drop the shader mod into the main direc

Simple answer is dont update. Its not finished, therefore its not release version yet. If you are just interested in updating your aircraft to 2.5.6, sorry but it doesnt work like that. All patches are version specific and most likely wont be correctly registered anytime you log in. Will fail integrity check 100% of the time.

Ok, let me see if I have a handle on your answer correctly please:

DCS patches include updates to the aircraft AND the engine combined, one cannot be updated without the other?

If this is what you are saying then there is no way to be able to KEEP my install at 2.5.5 AND also let said modules receive aircraft updates to complete them.

Am I stating that correctly please?

Thank you for the help.☺

Whoa!

Well, I thank you for the info.

This is sad news indeed for me. the 2.5.6 update was such a horrific drain on my already struggling fps that I had to roll back to 2.5.5 just to fly with much-fewer stutters. So much of a performance hit the 2.5.6 was, that once I rolled back to the 2.5.5 I could turn terrain shadows back on A-N-D have much better fps in VR, thanks to this Shader Mod only☺.

But now, now there is simply z-e-r-o chance of my opening my wallet to DCS any more.

Not with about $200 of their unfinished/stutterfest aircraft needing finishing and optimization.

Sitting on my HD.

And even if they get around to finishing a few of them over the next 18 months like they stated in their Reddit article last month, well then I'd have to upgrade to the stupid performance-NERFED 2.5.6 just to top off the aircraft modules.

So not worth it.

Rock --- Hard place --- Us Customers...

Losing 45% of my fps with 2.5.6 and having to turn off terrain shadows just ain't worth it.

Wow. And I thought what Microsoft did to the Flight Sim communities with MSFS X was bad....

But hey, we can all pre-order SuperCarrier right, so there's that. Plus you can save like 2% on the F-14 Tomcat for a limited time, which runs at like 23 fps IF you have everything turned off or down and are flying over water only. At least that's all I have heard, and seen myself with the free trial over the weekend...

Man. If ever they needed to hire someone at ED that gave a damn about their customers performance issues, and who cared about quality BEFORE fast bucking yet another unfinished module....

Well, enough for me. I need to take a break from DCS. Again. And its only Tuesday☺

Is it possible to use this mod only with the circular mask? Perhaps of only that is used it would not affect the graphics in old missions?

Skickat från min D5503 via Tapatalk

I would like to know this as well. If we could just mask the graphics without any of the current visual degradations, I might use this mod!

I think that’s what the ic pass versions of the mod that people use do.

Stuart, no, sadly that is not the case. I tried it again to check, and see the results attached.

Thanks Stuart,

I'll try that the next time I experiment with the mod. I've never seen any benefit of it myself, and in fact, when I tried the IC pass version earlier, I was actually getting worse frame times with the mod in the Viper PG Free Flight mission.

for me the reverb on my gfx card it provides a marginal benefit in terms of frame times normally, i haven't tried the IC pass version before in anger

But, do you think the 'marginal' benefits are worth the other visual degradations? I'm thinking shadows, sun, grass, etc.

I never have grass switched on, i only rarely fly choppers and war birds if i see grass its because im about to auger in... The last pass kind of fixed sun, and shadows i normally have them on flat when i have them so i really don't see much difference if at all... and with the water in its current shape, that looks pretty sweet.

it comes down to when can i upgrade my gfx card, and assuming the toilet-roll apocalypse doesn't end us all, that will be likely August or so, so i will liekly wait until the end of the year for the 3k series and see where we are, id get something like a 10-20% perf upgrade if i went to a 2080ti ... and that's not worth spending over a grand on.

In the mean time everything i can do to keep the frame times as close to 11 and far enough away from 22ms as i can is goodness t o let me fly more complex scenarios stutter free and smooth etc...

That's fair enough. The only thing I would question is your 2080Ti upgrade figures. More like £500 than a grand once you sell your 1080Ti for £500 on eBay!

It's like all hardware decisions really, depends on your attitude to cash vs performance vs timing. Especially now, I think the end of year is optimistic for the 3080s release, and even longer to get supplies out there if the 2080Ti situation is anything to go by.

So, you have still got the best part of a year to enjoy a significant 15-20% improvement for a few hundred pounds. All very much a personal decision, of course. There is no right and wrong, but I always go for the performance option every time!

indeed, in the mean time i'm happy to compromise ... but also i just removed a whole bunch of my bottle necks at the CPU end so senior management might melt down if i spend 500 quid (also it will be definitely seen as a grand despite your logic )on a new graphics card ... and rightly so (i already had my treat for this half of the year) :)

Fair enough! I might try the mod again with water reenabled, although I’m not hopeful of seeing any improvement. What value do you use for mask on the Reverb?

670, thats why the perf is so marginal IMO the mask needs to be so big to avoid the "ring" witthe O+ Vive and Rift-S its much higher

so running the IC Pass version (no water) i get an 7-9% frametime improvement on my GPU on the same settings etc... compared to running native, that was a pretty crude test level flight in an F/A-18 in Caucuses instant action free flight but it feels about right
