DCS: MiG-23MLA by RAZBAM

Though I find a pretty serious disconnect between their plans for the Falklands and the advertised plane set.

They said they want to do planes for the map, but those will come after it and it's still a long term project, they will first make the planes they have announced so far.

The planned planes would be the Sea Harrier FRS 1, Mirage III, Super Etendard and IA-58 Pucará.

Well, that won't be real/fair, the MLA was way better than what the Libyans were flying.

Sure Soviet versions like the MLA are better, but honestly wont make much of a difference, the F14 still has all the advantages over such a model.

Take the Syrian air force, they operated Mig21's and also various subset of Mig23's (which included ML and MLA), and during the 1982 lebanon war Syrian air force didn't score a single confirmed air kill against F15's or F16's. wheras Israelis basically were shooting fish in a barrel . A total of 85 confirmed A2A kills.

F14's also scored multiple kills with Phoenix missiles against MIg23's in the Iran iraq war.

Well 4th gen fighters cleaning up on gen2 and 3 fighters they were designed to kill wholesale isnt a real surprise.

Its a shame we may get the export radar of the MLA though.

The Mig-23 used in the 4477th in Tonopah were Mig-23MS a very much downgraded version of the Russian Mig-23M. No IRST, no R-23, RP-22SM Radar and only R-3S/R and R-60 missiles and very poor BFM perfomance.

The ML-MLA versions were much better, with a redesign of the airframe, reduced weight, less drag and better aerodynamics rated to 8.5G, better engine with more thrust/weight ratio and overall better maneuverability. Also the radar was improved, R-24 missiles added, better HUD and ECM resistance.

The best BFM Mig-23 was the Mig-23MLD of course, with improved AoA handling, vortex generators in the wings and pitot boom, better FCS, avionics and radar.

So a Mig-23MS cant BFM better than a F-111 but a MLA-MLD is a completly different thing.

Is like comparing the Mig-21F from 4477th with the last Mig-21Bis variants.

" You must think in russian.."

according to 1 of the devs that responded just a few posts above that isn't the case for the Mig233MLA model even if it originates from a one in use by Cuba.

Yup. Exactly this. Its like comparing an early gen f16A to block whatever F16C. And I wish they did the MLD but access is probably the issue.

The Cuban 23's (export MiG-23ML) had a radar type Sapfir-23MLAE N-003E Ametist, HUD ASP-17ML

But regular Mig-23 which used USSR or Czechoslovakia user "full version"

Sapfir-23MLA / N-003 Ametist which included "БС" modes - БСI, БСII, БСIII radar modes.

What are those radar modes for us non cyrillic readers?

Б = B, С = S.

What it stands for I'm not so sure. But I found this

The early ML had a radar ed. 324ML and an MLA H-003 installed and what's the difference? There are simply no advanced detection and selection modes for a target against the background of the earth and in radio contrast clouds in the conditions of active and passive interference of the BSI, BSII, BSIII.
