Server News:

 

Operation Sneaky Bastards:

- The Harriers are not included this time, because I'm trying to include 2 x F-14B's taking off from a carrier.

- The problem is, limiting weapons on carriers is still bugged. So all weapons would be allowed.

- If anyone is aware of some script or mod that limits the warehouse on carriers, please let me know. Couldn't find anything and frankly, don't think there is.

 

Not sure how this played out with the carrier ops, but I really hope it all worked out well.

 

As we all know the only Red carrier based fighter/bomber is the SU33, and it would be a great Red alternative to the F14B.

 

It is not as agile as the F14B but has similar air to ground load out. Personally I think both these planes should have limited air to air weapons and stick to guns only since they can carry an insane amount of air to air missiles to be able to fight fairly.

Server News:

 

Operation Sneaky Bastards is loaded with sound files to add to the dynamics of the mission, especially for the ground warfare. Turns out the more sound files you have in a mission (or maybe just multiplayer missions?) the likelier it is for the triggers to malfunction. The sound files were playing randomly yesterday, some not at all and even the weapons restrictions (mainly for the F-14B) didn't take any measures.

The whole mission is built around the sound effects. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to redesign it -_-

Server News:

 

Operation Sneaky Bastards:

- The rework of the mission is almost complete. About 40% of the sounds included were taken out to help stabilise the mission.

- 6 x Tomcats will be available (might increase in the future). No AA weapons. Use it as a striker. A human RIO could help with the GBU bombs. So get one if you can.

 

Operation Open Range:

- The ground units at the FARP's have been relocated and are now accessible for cmdr operators to move or drive around.

- 4 x F-14B's replace the 4 x M-2000C's. AIM-9L and AIM-7F missiles available, however, VERY limited.

- The 4 x MiG-29A's will have access to R-60M, R-73 and R-27R missiles, however, VERY limited.

- Sound files adjusted.

 

Operation Search & Destroy (currently offline):

- MiG-29A's will be available at Shiraz International Airport (no more covering of long distances to get to the bullseye).

- F-14B's will replace the M-2000C's and will be available on the Stennis next to Lavan Island.

- The Stennis will have some ships to defend it.

- Red could and maybe should think about sinking the Stennis as it will be a secondary objective for them.

 

Operation Prince of Persia (currently offline):

- When an airbase is captured, cmdr/JTAC operators will have access to moving or driving around each and every ground unit.

- The Blue FARP has been moved up a bit further north.

 

 

Notes:

- I'll try and make as many as possible ground units accessible for players to drive and move around in all missions (old and new) to make air to ground tasking more challenging and dynamic.

- This however, depends on how many players care about the ground warfare and take part in operating as a cmdr or a JTAC in the first place.

- The Combined Arms module will receive more and more improvements in months and years to come as

has stated recently. I hope more players will pay more attention to it.

- The Hind and the Kiowa Warrior will surely be added to the server. The Hind will be Red only, and the Kiowa Warrior will be Blue only.

 

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I'm not an employee of ED's nor do I get paid by them for doing what I do or writing notes like the above. So please, don't think of the above as some sort of a sneaky way to get you to buy the Combined Arms module. I simply happen to love the ground warfare so I can only hope that more people will get interested in the Combined Arms module. The very reason I'm giving it more space on the server.

F-14s as bombers will be interesting! Time to work on intercepts.

 

Had an awesome game of hide-and-seek at Novorossiysk yesterday :D More excuses to use CA assets are always welcome as well. While CA isn't very polished and is missing some absolutely critical features, it brings a whole new array of challenges with it and variety is, as they say, the spice of life. Just give us stabilised guns on the things that should have them please ED...

I think that the blue team need more time to prepare for the B-52 escort on the open range mission cuz they are spawning a 30 000ft above the Maykop, maybe make them takeoff from the tomcat base at krasnodar, that would bring more importance to this escort, especially with the brand news tomact :-p

Are you patting yourself on the back or shaming intentionally another user who simply might not be as experienced as you think you are ?

 

Anyway, regarding Phone Booth mission, whats the idea behind it ? Because I haven't seen in the briefing (might have missed however) anything permitting attacks on main bases and yet got people coming at Mozdok and blasting the airfield / respawning people. Now if that's a mission design, than thats fine, but if its not than perhaps it's something that deserves attention.

They were landing all around me, I was expecting to die at any moment - no idea how I didn't. I don't know how powerful the FFARs on the F-5 are but I do know that the ARAK on the Viggen will one-hit even a tank, so as soon as I spotted one of those circling overhead I really slammed my foot on the gas pedal :lol:

 

You guys had really good coordination that mission, left me wishing I'd gone for Pashkovsky first. I think it was only me and one other guy on main comms for red, I assumed the other Mi-8 was going north... you know what they say about assuming... :doh: I was originally going to take Gelendzhik, decided to divert for Novo once that got captured, and then Novo flipped as I was halfway across the bay.

Neither. It must have been a frustrating chase for the other pilot. He did fly well, better then I did imho. I wasted a lot of fuel thinking he was still behind me due to poor SA when he had broken off a lot earlier.

Simply sharing a fun encounter.

Attacking the main airbases in Phone Booth is not allowed. In fact, in not one mission. I know it'd be fun maybe and surely realistic, but the problem is when that starts happening, players on the attacked side start leaving the server and the fun is quickly over for both sides. How do I know that? Because in the first years of hosting the server attacking anything was allowed and quite often the server went from 40+ players down to 20 or 10 due to continuous attacks on the main airbases. I wouldn't mind allowing that, but then a separation of 400+ km might be the answer. And surely no one wants to fly for that long to get to the bullseye or the TA, especially strikers. ESPECIALLY helicopters.

I could talk about simulating realism all I want but at the end of the day it's in the players' hands. No matter what restrictions I'd enforce they'll always find an alternative way to counter that. A tedious back and forth so to speak. A catch me if you can type of a scenario between me and the players. Therefore, I put some restrictions to hopefully get more realism out of DCS (with the tools currently available for a mission designer) while hoping that players would do their part in sticking with the objectives.

Well, I have entire tacview of the remaining hour of the mission last night which basically boiled down to waves of Blue Viggens, F-5s and Harriers coming to Mozdok over and over. It wasn't such a problem from surviving point of view since air defense there can handle that, but I think huge number of missiles was expended. So I dont think anyone was particularly sticking to the objective.

Again, it's in the hands of the players too, not just mine. In most cases the players seem to stick with the objectives. Especially, in the bigger missions. It ain't called Phone Booth for no reason, I guess. And if they were mainly holding their position just outside of Mozdok intercepting MiG-'s right after takeoff, then it's totally acceptable in this mission particularly. A routine breaker maybe instead of capturing zones, FARP's and airbases all the time as it is in the bigger missions.

Hey alpenwolf, is it possible to make the mission rotate after all the lake are captured on the mountain cries mission please, because i think that not a lot of people like this mission actually, i know it's the case for at least all the devils squadron, have you ever considered to remove it ?or change t a bit ? (less lakes, more units choice on the CTLD.....)

I have been watching a few replays now and I can say that the Gen4 fighters are OP with their modern short range missiles.. the dogfights are almost like shooting ducks in a barrel. Wont be long until the Gen3 flyers start complaining.

 

I'm suggesting to leave the medium range missiles in limited amounts for now like you have done (which are easier to dodge), and taking away the short range missiles for Gen4. Gen4 can do some serious damage with guns only. Unlimited aircraft would then be a reasonable move.

Any chance we can get more SU-25Ts on some missions? Even it with our A10s on the Blue side. I dont think anyone on the Blue side would mind, and I dont think anyone form the Blue side has complained in the last few months.

 

I like it when the stuff gets real, and prefer it that way

I don't like rushing things like that. Which is why I put things out and have them tested for a while. I've noticed myself yesterday how 4 x R-73's got me 4 kills easily, although the bandits were flaring and defending like crazy. Tough missiles, I know. The AIM-7E will probably replace the AIM-7F. The IR missiles for the MiG-29A and the F-14B will be gone, but in time. The M-2000C will be replaced by the F-14B. And so on... Step by step. Easy...

Welcome to the forums!

The Su-25T is back in operation Sneaky Bastards (currently offline). Again, I'd rather have it tested first and see what impact in can have on the outcome of battles before adding it to all missions.
