DCS 2.2 freezes (with log files)

Recommended Posts

I had this before: I'm looking around in the cockpit with my TrackIR and suddenly DCS freezes (sounds keep on playing) and I have to close it.

The first time this happened to me, I already had a look at my .log file. Back then the following line looked suspicious to me (as a user :smilewink:):

02353.669 ERROR_ONCE DX11BACKEND: rendertarget 'HeatAir' not found

I instantly pressed the pause button trying to stop it from crashing, but unfortunately I was too slow / it didn't help...

Same Exact Problem

A-10C operation Red Flag freezing up. I load up a campaign and DCS 2.2 and after it’s loaded after any where from 5 to 20 minutes in the air everything freezes up. The only way to exit is control, alt and delete and exit using the task manager.

Deferred Shading on MXAA Off.

Renamed C:\Users\jmgre\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha

Can anybody help. DCS 1.58 runs great

Intel 4670K, 16gb ram, Gtx 1080 Ti, 500gb SSD, TrackIr

Thanks in advance

player by the name of redshoes made the suggestion of not allowing your FOV to exceed 120 which so far for me has helped to avoid experiencing this issue.

Some planes share the views.lua file found in DCS World 2 OpenAlpha/Config/View/Server.lua

Some planes have their own views.lua in their individual folders...i.e. DCS World 2 Openalpha/mods/aircraft/fw-190d9/views.lua

You can limit the fov to 120 in this line -

CameraViewAngleLimits = {20.000000,120.000000}

SO far this workaround has stopped me from freezing.

Another suggestion was to set pre-rendered frames to 3 or 4 in nv control panel.

Hopefully, the influx of players once 2.5 hits will help narrow this issue down altogether.

Thanks for the advice I'll try them out tonight. First I'll have to find CameraViewAngleLimits.

Nope that did not work. DCS 2.2 can run 5 minutes or maybe 20 then it just Freezes only way to exit is Task Manager.

Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately no I don't. There have been several people experiencing this issue since the release of 2.1 and Normandy. It seems more likely to occur over Normandy, but have experienced it over Nevada.

Only other thing I can think of is double check that you're not exceeding 120 FOV by hitting ctrl + pause twice for the fps counter + other orange info when zooming out.. some aircraft use the shared server.lua in /config/views/server.lua starting from the installation folder, and some use their own views.lua file mods/aircraft/*youraircraft*/views.lua

Might want to make sure the vc redistributables are installed correctly which I think is handled by running "DCS_Updater repair" in cmd prompt.

Also pretty much every setting in NV control panel for me is default, besides enabling g-sync, setting power management for DCS to Prefer Maximum Performance, and Max pre-rendered frames to 3 or 4.

Looking at the OP's dxdiag also makes me want to say - shouldn't hurt to have the latest nvidia driver package, although that may be totally unrelated to the crash. Nvidia has been pumping out driver updates pretty frequently.

Sorry if none of that helps, but there's hope yet with 2.5 coming soon and lots of new pilots to beta test the client.

This is weird I have my 4670K overclocked to 4.6 It's been there for at lease 2 years and have been flying DCS 2.0 and 1.5 along with X Plane 11.1. X Plane seems fine never freezes up.

I tried lowering the overclock to 4.3 in DCS and I have no more freezing. I wonder if the 4670K is going or something in the mother board is causing it.

May upgrade to a 8700K what do think current Video card 1080 Ti.

Personally I don't think you'd see much of a difference strictly for gaming provided your system is stable. My system is gpu bound running at 3440x1440. 8700k overclocks well using AIO liquid cooling. But for me personally I didn't get much of a bump in gaming/simming performance coming from an i5 2500k @ 4.3-4.5ghz. I've experienced a freeze similar to what you're describing on both systems, and others in the forums have experienced them on various setups as well. That's not to say I didn't benefit from upgrading from 2nd to 8th gen, but it mainly multitasking and production capabilities as well as newer hardware with ongoing driver support for the time being.

Perhaps nvidia's offerings for 2018 will change things for me, but you're sounding pretty solid with a 1080ti well over 4ghz. CPU speed might make more of a difference at lower resolutions. The 8700k boosting to 4.3ghz on all cores @ stock settings might be what entices you. Value is subjective. :)

Hope you get it sorted, whether or not you're having stability issues with your OC i can't offer much help with. With the game freezing up for several people, if you're passing stress tests and not reaching critical temps my guess is it's not you. Question is more suited for the hardware section.

Think I got it fixed. Turned down MFAA to 2 and turned on MFAA in the Nivida control panel Program Settings Digital Combat Simulator Black Shark also set Maximum pre-rendered frames to 3.

Getting 90 to 100 FPS over Vegas at 7680 X 1440 (3 2560 X 1440 monitors) every thing pretty much maxed out.

Thanks for the help
