I'll definitely try this tonight with my 1080Ti.

 

How can it just suddenly start utilising the GPU like that lmao?!?!?

 

And if you run WITHOUT steamvr, how is the head tracking? I just assumed it would be crap without it???

 

Edit: Nevermind, apparently you can still have lighthouse tracking without steamvr running. I didn't even know that!

I wanted to try it (GTX1080Ti), but I can`t start DCS from PiTool without SteamVR. I always get a fatal error message.

Ok, I gave it a try... and it works also with SteamVR running in the background.

In the free flight with the F-14 on Black Sea map I started with about 40fps with my settings. After clicking once on "default" in the EVGA precision X1 tool I gained about 60fps, So that`s an improvement of about 50%! GPU usage rose from 70% to 100%.

 

But there is one problem. After the default clicking and gaining higher frames I got very heavy warping in the game. It´s like having a double image now and makes it unplayable, even with the higher frames. So I activated smart smoothing in the PiTool and the warping has gone, everything is smooth. As long as SS can maintain constant fps. As soon as you drop below the frame limit or if the fps are not constant in some maneuvers, the heavy warping is back and makes it hard to play.

I have not tried yet but this may be a dumb question for the guys who are getting fatal error. Are you guys trying to launch the steam version of DCS World from pitool or the standalone version.

 

Fatal error only when trying to launch DCS from PiTool.

For @ram0506 and others getting the fatal error message: as strange as this sounds, that is expected.

 

You will have to dismiss the various error messages a number of times (>10) over perhaps 2-5 minutes. It's extremely strange, but if you keep dismissing the errors, DCS will eventually load.

 

If you open task manager in you will be able to see that DCS.exe is running, despite the application window not being visible.

Didn`t know that, thanks. Now I can start DCS normally (by clicking the DCS-icon on my desktop) without SteamVR being opened. :thumbup:

I would say, running DCS directly from Pitool without SteamVR is highly recommended :)

 

Ghosting is really reduced now to a minimum and performance much more smoother.

 

Just took some flights - it was like graphical poetry :)

 

But issues found so far, with the modded planes and helos ( cockpit and/or sound mods ), which won´t load, only the unmodded planes has loaded.

Also a strange issue with the Harrier, which was the only module which has a massive flickering image.

 

... need some more investigation, before removing Steam and SteamVR completely.

 

Edit: Flickering image with the Harrier has gone. Seems there is needed some reinstallation of the modded modules ...

Also the SteamVR Webhelper is always trying to execute, when DCS started ...

Cant launch DCS thru Pitool, I get handling errors from all my modules with serial number.

I can't run it through pitools either, i have the standalone version. Imported dcs.exe, went through all the fatal error messages for probably 15 minutes and dcs would not start. Also have the latest pitool version

I tried this with my Strix 1080Ti OC. Could not get the FPS to increase.

I launch DCS from Pitool, not running SteamVR. Get the usual errors, but game starts ok sometimes. Other times it crashes.

 

Despite not running steamVR there is a blank window that flickers rapidly with "SteamVR" in the title. No idea what that's about.

 

When it works I click on DCS to give it focus, jump into freeflight. Alt tab to GPUTweak and change clocks - no effect in game except for slight fps changes according to GPU clocks.

 

Installed PrecisionX and hit default, but didn't help. Ran out of time to experiment further.

7700K@5Ghz, 32GB 3600 CL16, 3080.

I tired it with steamvr and precisionX and it kinda worked, i got better fps but after a few seconds i got some really bad ghosting and dubble vision effect so it made it unplayable. I really wanna get it working only through pitools so i can skip the parallell projection to get a couple of frames extra.

I disabled all module with serial numbers in DCS by disabling them in the module install tab so DCS will load fine thru pitools but as I turn my head around the view moves with the Pimax slightly and its not steady. I did get a increase in FPS with this trick but it made the image double vision when looking around. Not sure Sweiviver is getting his to work.

oh so you think it's the modules with serial number that's causing the problem with not being able to run it through pitools?

 

It sounds like your sensors isn't working right if the image move around

Log file in DCS saved game folder says error on all modules that have serial numbers so I think Pitool is trying to bypass the DRM for DCS. Disable those modules and no more errors and DCS will launch normally.

Also image views thru HMD are not moving around when going through SteamVR so it's only an issue while loading through pitool only.
