Copied from the TAC manual:

DMT TV Display. On Day and Night

Attack aircraft, the DMT TV display can be

utilized in the A/A mode. When the DMT is ON

and a Sidewinder is locked on a target, the TV

sensor is automatically slaved to the Sidewinder

seeker LOS and provides a 6:1 magnification of

the target if the DMT display on the sensor

switch is selected.

Regarding A/A gunnery: don't know.

Have you flown the A-10C? If so, you should expect very similar A/A systems.

The onboard cameras (as well as the TGP I would presume) will have an A/A search mode, but it won't be nearly as effective as a radar. As far as A/A weapons go you'll have simple AIM-9 and guns.

In terms of actual A/A capability, I think the Harrier N/A will be a lot more effective than the A-10C just because it is so much faster.

If you're expecting to buy the Harrier to use in A/A combat though, I think you'll be pretty disappointed.

Hey

I have just been wondering the the AV8B NA have any sensors for A-A or it is the good old fashioned Mk1 eyeball?

The AV-8B NA is a dedicated CAS aircraft with secondary A/A capability for self-defense. This is the version that will be released.

The AV-8B Plus is also a dedicated CAS aircraft, but in this case it has the AN/APG-65 radar which allows it to use AIM-120s, so they can take the role of air interceptors. The Plus CAS capabilities were degraded if you compare them with the NA, since the ARBS sensor was replaced by the APG-65. The PLUS makes heavy use of the LITENING II pod in order to enhance its CAS capabilities.

  • 2 weeks later...
The hotspot detector can that be used in A-A mode kinde like the EO of the russian planes?

Doubtful, and if it can then it is a classified feature, meaning we do not know its capabilities.

With "Viffing" spelling?, you should always be at the 6, so I don't know how much will be needed for in close fighting anyway.
