Strut, would you mind If I nitpicked a bit again :D ? I don't know which of noted details are intended effect and which ones are result of some slight mapping issue. As pointed below, in a couple of places the underside colour "leaks" a little over the upper side camo (a couple of other skins affected as well). Also not sure about driving links of elevator trim tabs on CROC livery being light grey against the upper camo, unless they were not painted at some point in the history of this airframe (?). And what about the grey tip of the right side of the rudder? Was it also a feature of Caldwell's plane?

Thanks Art, its always good to have a critical eye, i did leave the driving links unpainted, but it was only me surmising whether they would have been or not, but i think i will paint over them, i will also touch up those other faults, one thing about CROC is the nose cone was actually white with 3 black bands, but the animation is wonky and it looks crappy when the cone is spinning, so i just made it temporarily black until ED fix it, not sure they will, but i did post about about it.

I have re-edited and updated all my Spit skins with adding new exhaust pipes and a more realistic propeller marking. I dont know how historically accurate the marking is but they are more in line with how it was done. Here are pics of the latest. I have also uploaded two generic skins, Grey Nurse and a Desert livery. These are now done !

After spending some more time with'em, I'd kindly suggest considering another tweaking-pass on the exhaust stacks.

Now, I understand that a bit of variety between individual stacks is needed, but any airplane with THAT much of a variety as on your latest revision, would end up in maintenance hangar immediately, because of apparently serious issues with mixture distribution between cylinders :D.

Reference photos posted in the other thread of yours by BrassEm show quite nicely what the stacks should rather look like.

@ Art - Sure no probs, I will have a play with them in the next couple of days. The funny thing is that the current stack is from a real colour picture of a contemporary Spit, i just moved a couple of exhausts around because of the layer configuration. But i do see your point.

Just curious, was the right side "UP" code on A58-543 really painted over the roundel, or is it a bit of a licentia poetica of yours?

Similar question about blurry roundels and finflash on JF630 :).

The reference i used for A58-543 was from the book "Aussie Eight" by Eduard and i did see a another picture somewhere else but the markings as far as i can find are correct, heres a cut from the book"

As far as blurry roundels and finflash on JF630 i may need to get my eyes checked, yes it is a bit blurry, :) yep il have to fix that, thx Art.

Interesting paint scheme, looks like the original serial was painted over using a theatre colour (I'm guessing Foliage Green), new Aussie serial and markings applied, and then codes applied so as to not obliterate the serial number.

Yes your probably right Jocko, it wasnt as uncommon as may seem, i have seen quite a few RAF, RAAF and others with similar markings. The bottom line is they aint put on to make the plane look pretty !

  • 2 weeks later...

Ive messed around with the pilot skins and come up with some less shiny ones, il put them into my skins, they will be out soon as i did a bit of a revamp by changing the Exhaust stack and some of the finer detail.

Ive improved the Khaki uniform colour i think, and i have gotten close the RAAF uniform Blue, and as you can see the RAF Blue is different. Also gave the RAAF models some new gloves.

Good work, I've done the same process with Italian pilot.

I don't know if this is a bug, but have you noticed too that after a landing, on the parking lot, when AI pilot come out the skin revert to the default RAF pilot?
