RAFALE vs TYPHOON

Recommended Posts

A2A: Typhoon, it's the better, more effecient choice. It has a wider capability range with western weapons, such as the ASRAAM, AMRAAM, etc..

A2G: Rafale, it's simply got a better range of weapons and has actually been cleared for it. It's also proven for Carrier Ops.

I'd say Typhoon, honestly.

It also looks better :smartass:

Two nice planes...

But the Rafale have more avanced Air-To-Air Radar by now. The EF2000 will not get AESA Radar until time ( 2020 ) ? this means that the EF2000 still use the convencional Pulse Doppler Radar that have 10 years old by now.

In Air To Air combat this will be a match.

Here is a computed simulated BVR combat rating:

Typhoon: 82%

Rafale: 50%

That study is not credible in my view because the capabilities of each planes are judged against a ficticios oposition with arbitrated capabilities.

But if I had to vote I would chose the Eurofighter, yes. The french were to be in that program but they wanted a smaller and lighter plane. The rafale is a very capable plane but its a smaller brother of the Typhoon.

Right now the AESA on the rafale and the mechanical Captor on the EF2000 means nothing when the french plane will be stuck with the shorter range MICA for a few more years, by wich time the radar disavantage gap on the radar front is to be closed.

Having said that, the planes are still too similar for a clear winner in AA combat, the best pilot will easely make the biggest difference.

The Rafale easily:

Fitted with 14 hard points.

Excellent air to air missile like the MICA Passive or Active with thrust vector control, Range from 500m to 60KM and always improved.

The Scalp/Storm Shadow long-range stand-off missile.

Anti-ship missiles. (Exocet)

Nuclear armament. (ASMP, ASMP-A)

The upcoming Meteor long-range air-to-air missile.

The upcoming AASM range of modular air-to-ground weapons.

Laser-guided bombs.

Conventional air-to-ground ordnance.

The Giat Industries Defa 791 30-mm cannon, capable of firing 2,500 rounds per minute.

It can combine ground attack and air-to-air combat missions during the same sortie. It is also capable of performing multiple functions at the same time such as beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air firing during the very-low-altitude penetration phase. This gives RAFALE impressively broad multi-role capabilities, along with a high degree of survivability.

Sensor data fusion: provides a link between the global battlespace surrounding the aircraft and the pilot's brain with its unique ability to grasp the outcome of tactical situations and make sensible decisions.

A unique man-machine interface: The RAFALE is fitted with an extremely ergonomic pilot interface (MMI), combining a Digital Voice Input with the HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick) control concept.

Spectra: a world first integrated self-protection system that has no analogue in the world.

DDM: Infrared Missile Detector is a totally passive offering early detection, accurate angular resolution and easy integration with no RF compatibility problem.

DDM NG: New generation missile warning system for Rafale even better.

The M88-2: is a new-generation engine featuring state-of-the-art technologies, including non-polluting combustion chamber, single-crystal turbine blades and powder metallurgy disks... It also features the latest advances in reducing electromagnetic and infrared signatures. In short, the M88-2 (11,250 to 17,000 lb of thrust) is a very compact powerplant, offering a high thrust-to-weight ratio and exceptional controllability, especially during acceleration.

The M88-2E4 with improved fuel consumption (2 to 4 % lower than the M88-2E1).it is designed from the outset for high dispatch reliability, along with easy maintainability and lower operating costs, to reduce the overall cost of ownership.

The New M88-3 is now the standard with a 20-percent increase in wet thrust to 40,000 lb.

it's Ommirole by design, and more maneuvrable and agile.

The Rafale in all its splendour, a fabulous bird!

Yes! A study from the Eurofighter group which says "our plane is better". What would say a study from Dassault? It's amazing they do not say : "Our rival is better." I really wonder why, but maybee it's because I'm stupid.

Stop with all these stupid topics. Performances of both planes are secret, their system are classified and will evolve. There is a big gap between a Rafale F1 and a Rafale F3.

Nobody here have the knowledge to say which one is better between Typhoon and Rafale. Nobody! That's just bullshit.:megalol:

Nice to know it's an environmentally friendly jet, even as it's dropping those nukes :D

BTW, it is not because Captor isn't an AESA radar that it is an inferior radar. Quite on the contrary, it is supposed to have excellent performance. An Aesa radar has a wealth of new possibilities, certainly in LPI techniques, but in sheer performance you can have Aesa radars that do not meet the Captor's specs.

With Eurofighter and Rafale, the Europeans are still in the game. (And technology-wise, they are very involved in F-35 to). So count the Europeans in for the next decade's fighter competition.
