wilbur81
Hey, Gents. I just upgraded my EVGA 970 FTW to a 1070 SC. After some brief testing on a benchmark mission with all identical settings, it appears that my average FPS for that mission are actually slightly lower than with my 970, in 2.1 and 2.05 (I've got both on my SSD). I'm running one of the 37x.xx drivers from NVIDIA. Any thoughts? i7 8700K @ Stock - Win10 64 - 32 RAM - RTX 3080 12gb OC - 55 inch 4k Display
hughlb
I did the same thing - 970 to 1070. What I did see was a higher minimum framerate in built up areas, like Vegas. Less stutter as well, thanks to 8 vs 4 gigs of video RAM. My average framerate has been largely exactly the same. As you probably already know, DCS framerates are more CPU-bound than GPU. Also it depends on what resolution you're running on - I'm running at 1080p - I would say you could push to a higher resolution if needed, and still maintain performance, whereas the 970 will drop off the performance curve as resolution increases. | Windows 10 | I7 4790K @ 4.4ghz | Asus PG348Q | Asus Strix 1080TI | 16GB Corsair Vengeance 2400 DDR3 | Asrock Fatal1ty Z97 | Samsung EVO 850 500GB (x2) | SanDisk 240GB Extreme Pro | Coolermaster Vanguard S 650Watt 80+ | Fractal Design R4 | VirPil T-50 | MFG Crosswind Graphite | KW-908 JetSeat Sim Edition | TrackIR 5 | [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

dburne
Did you do a clean install of the drivers after you installed the card? Removing the current drivers with DDU in safe mode and installing latest Nvidia drivers clean? Also, set " Prefer Maximum Performance" in Nvidia control panel for DCS.exe? I went from a 970 to a 1080 card and saw a significant boost in 2.0. Not so much in 1.5. I would think you would at least see some boost in performance. OnlyforDCS
Well the 1060 is about on par with the 970, at least at 1080p resolution. The 1070 is significantly faster so it's a little bit strange that you are not seeing an improvement. Like dburne said, remove all the Nvidia drivers in safe mode, and download and install the latest drivers from Nvidia. If anything even if you are seeing similar average frame rates, you should have better minimum frame rates and a much smoother experience overall. mvsgas
Thanks for the response, dburne. I installed the drivers off of the disk that came with the new GPU, but I did not remove the current drivers prior to that. Too late to retry? Is generally better to download the latest drivers rather than using the included cd. I normally just go to nvidia website but some people prefer to go to the video cards manufacturer site to get the latest drivers. Same idea when removing the old drivers, some people prefer a complete removal, I tend to use the Nvidia software to remove and then install the new drivers. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
dburne
Thanks for the response, dburne. I installed the drivers off of the disk that came with the new GPU, but I did not remove the current drivers prior to that. Too late to retry? Not at all. Download the latest Nvidia drivers for your card and operating system from Nvidia.com I would recommend uninstalling your current drivers in safe mode using DDU ( Display Driver Uninstaller). Upon reboot, install the latest drivers you downloaded, only installing the display driver and PhysX. I would not install GeForce experience or any of that other stuff. Bloatware. After installation finished, go ahead and reboot again. Go into Nvidia control panel, click on the profiles tab, and look for dcs.exe - select under power management " prefer maximum performance" and click apply. Good luck, hope this helps. Pikey
Yep I went from 960 to 1070. Whilst on other games you can see a difference, DCS isn't like other games, it's not even a game really. Given the 2.1 changes and it being a little tough on systems it's not surpriring you didn't see much change. There's loads of people who have found success in tweaking, so you shouldnt lose hope that the upgrade wasn't worth it. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
fixen
Like dburne said, try reinstalling the display driver (downloaded ofcourse). But first delete the current one using DDU.

*Rage*
1080 is too low a resolution to stretch a 1070. My FPS will drop 30-40% going from 1440 to 4k. BitMaster
I still think 4k is for a generation of GPU's that ain't here yet. With my "old" 980GTX I can push 1440p just nice and I would never give up smoothness and speed for eye candy.
