What aircraft are you going to be flying in normandy and why ?

I have P-51D but I will fly the P-47D when it comes out hopefully. It is the aircraft I prefer.

So for the upcoming Normandy map i will have to buy a new aircraft. So is it gonna be Spitfire, kurfurst, dora or p51 ? What will you guys be taking mainly in the battle ? Wich is the one you find the easiest to fly or the most superior after acquiring skills ?

I have thought about that myself. While I don't know exactly how much difference there is in the armor of the older tanks as compared to the modern units, I would imagine that the A-10 should have an easier time taking them out.

if you mean strickly the gun? yea you still cant really kill most of these tanks frontally. but hey thats why the A10 has plenty of other ordinance (guided and unguided)

Gau8 DU API shells have about 76mm of armor penetration effectiveness from a distance of 300m, and it gets less the further distance it is shot from. at distance of 1,222m its max effective distance, results in about 55mm of penetration.

the Panzer 4 being a older design has lots of flat armor areas. and but still around 80mm thickness in the front. Side armor should be only around 30mm ( or 35mm since the panzer 4H has those 5mm thick Sideskirts to help protect its side from shaped charge warheads by causing them to detonate prematurely)

Panther has sloped hull armor and around 80 mm flat thickness, but the slope coefficient raises its effectiveness to around 125mm, and the sides are only around 45- 50mm

Tiger 1 i think around 100mm Front areas, sides 80mm

KIng Tigers are still extremely well armored ( 150mm frontal hull armor, and around 220 effective armor) with 80mm worth of side hull and turret armor. youl have to treat those like a cold war era tanks and go for Top down turret or Rear engine grill attacks for the best efficiency.

My Dad said the sky was covered in allied aircraft, He was in no 6 Commando, sword Beach, he recalled the rocket firing Typhoons, doing their cab rank system and later how a formation was flying straight and level, when one flew straight into a tall chimney stack, he put it down to everyone being very tired. So it will be ground attack Mustang, as a representative a/c. We enjoy our hobby thanks to the sacrifice of all those that took part in that momentous event,

One other comment, He said it was organised to a standstill, maps, money, phrasebooks...and 90% of the first day went as briefed....did 30 years in the forces, ...it never went that well for us lol

Depends on the mission set :) I hope we will get some realtively fun missions right out of the gate. Hopefully they will also be hosted online. Would like to take the Mustang up for some bomber escort duty, just so I can see how it handles in those conditions against the "superior" Dora or 109K at high altitude :)

Still if there is a significant sale on the K, or some kind of bundle Normandy deal by mid April, I might go with the Messerschmitt. It's my birthday in April.

Then there is also the possibility that the F14 is right round the corner....would be fun buzzing Axis forces in what would look like an alien starfighter from their perspecitve :)

Solid or otherwise, missions or campaigns are not going to be available right away unless a Tester builds them or ED contracts someone to make them.

P-51D because I'm an American, and proud of it!

Then the Spit, if I feel like having a "Spot of Tea" (Don't care for Crumpets) in the Briefing Room with my allies.

If I feel like taking down some B-17s, I'll fly the BF 109 or the FW 190 since it would not be proper to shoot down allies in a P51 or Spit.

Im betting that we will see missions within hours of the map hitting the alpha branch, just like we did with NTTR. It's probably going to be really simple stuff initially, but within days you will have escort missions, bombing missions, etc. depending on the quality and ability of the AI units included initially.

Near future? I would have to say no. Nobody has even indicated that they are making one.

Considering Cobra's description of the current state of the F-14...

Obligatory: This is pre-pre-pre-Alpha. Many things are wrong and pending to be fixed!

I would say that it is around a very large corner.

Yeah, but knowing that Normandy is coming in late May, probably early June at the earliest I don't think a (pre)release F14 by the time Normandy hits is something thats outside the realm of possibility. When you also take into account people who will wait for the 2.5 merge to install the alpha branch (I have not decided yet, but Im leaning towards waiting) I would be willing to bet serious money that we will see the Tomcat before we see Normandy in the release or even beta branch. :)
