Hard copy Manual

The most cost effective way to do something like that is to 1) own a laser printer and print the pages yourself 2) have it spiral bound at a local print shop (i.e. FedEx Kinkos).

The price at Lulu's was too good to pass up but for smaller manuals I usually print them myself and bind with these.

Of course, the initial investment isn't cheap, since you need a special hole punch, but the consumables for the laser printer go a long way.

I probably have at least fifty documents printed and bound this way. Another nice thing is the ability to open the binding and replace/add pages if needed.

No way is laser printing yourself the most cost effective way.

Last time I checked printer cartridges were expensive as hell. Print shops though are cheap.

Yes, they are expensive. However, I can print well over 1500 pages, in color, with about $250 in toner (technically it cost less than $250 since the yellow cartridge usually lasts for nearly 3000 pages, depending on the image's color content). That is only $0.16 per page, not counting paper (which is negligible). Price that at your local print shop.

If I go B&W, which goes for about &0.10 per page at a print shop, I can print nearly 2000 pages for about $60 (that is &0.03/page).

The printer itself was $250, including toner, for an HP (which is about the best laser printer brand that you can buy), and I have printed many thousands of pages on it (I don't know the exact number since I have had it replaced (under warranty) once.

EDIT: FedEx Kinkos just quoted me $0.59/page for color. which works out to over $400 for the A-10 manual. That is the price even if there is only a single word on the page that is not black, while, in my case, I will use just a tiny bit of my color toner cartridges, thus reducing my cost to far less than $0.16/page.
