Skyhigh
Nvidia released new shiny armor 8800GTX ans GS cards and by testing this card alone can take on Xfire ans Sli equiped systems. Power consumption is rated for GTX 450 W altough ull need 2 molex connector on it. Card is MONSTRUM in size, Power and price in canada here costs $754. Hmmm thinking of buying it... VMFA117_Poko
Yeah! I've heard that already on forum.rscnet.org. GTR2 flies on it like crazy! Difference between 8800GTX and 7900GTX is HUGE!
firesoldier845
Did u see the benchmarks for LockON on firingsquad.com ??? - compared to 7900 almost double performance, not quite but almost double fps! I just wonder though if the lowest fps is gonna be close to same cause game is CPU bottlenecked. Still that's impressive. I'm not gonna run out and buy one but I'll more than likely upgrade in 2007 sometime after I see what ATI comes out with and go with the better platform for LockON. I really like how they have the unified shaders now instead of the seperate pixel and vertex shaders, sounds like that alone was a good idea. Pilotasso
I could buy half a PC for that amount of money for a technology that can be revised at any moment to leave this one in the dust. Force_Feedback
Oh my I'm amazed.... Not really actually, how many gpu cores did they put in that one? Guess they overclocked the memory and installed new coolers, alsong with 2/4/8 gpus, and w00000w, DOUBLE PERFORMNCE!!!! BUY IT!!! BUY IT!!! Guess it's even more of a hype-making bullsh** to make more money than 10 years ago concerning gpus. Same goes for Vista, very high system specs (2gb to be able to use IE, or something), and nothing in return, not as much as it would be pissible, had it not been designed inefficiently, and with lots of confusing animations and shadows that get 20 filter layers :/ Dudes, remember when EVERYTHING doubled every 1-2 years?, you had double the speed, double the memory, no power issues (because of inefficient design), only windows stopped the joy. And now they overclock some old memory modules they had in stock, stick another gpu in there, then overclock them, an voila, 50% more fps. Sure, performance is performance, but 450W, holy crap, I'd rather have a plasma display on 24/7 rather than having to buy a kilowatt PSU :p Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
3Sqn_Fudd
I ordered the 8800gts!... will report back on tuesday/wednesday on the effects. Pre ban as in it having a switch with 'Auto', or being able to handle 20 and 30 round magazines? Back on topic though, 450W is like a mediocre blender, I'd rather make smoothies and enjoy them, rather than have to spend lots of money AND high power consumption. On the other hand, It cuts down on heating costs, hmm, what is cheaper having the room heated, or having the monstrocity inside to heat the case, room and probably the car outside :P Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
sojourner
I am glad someone started the topic here. I was just about to put through an order for a new system. After flying the sildeshow that is FSX for approximately 30 seconds before becoming frustrated, I decided to finally take the step from low to mid end systems to an "above the curve" one. I just priced out EVGA nvidia 680i chipset Core2 Duo 6600 2 GB OCZ PC 6400 ram OCZ 650W power supply Geforce 8800 gtx HDR (the HDR seems right on for flight sims) and a raptor or two for the harddrive Other odds and ends for sound and what not My current aging system is Ath 64 3200+ 2 gb corsair ram pc3200 ati x1800 and other unmentionables. The only thing that would remain would be my HOTAS cougar :P Oh and I guess my keyboard ... maybe my mouse Jeff

I think, I'm st0ned and slightly drunk, so my memory may be fuzzy :p m203, that's that special deer hunting extension isn't it, one shot, and you have deer soup all over the forest. Guest IguanaKing
The PSU draws 321 watts with an 8800GTX installed and running under load. These power draw tests are usually done with a meter in series with the input side of the PSU. The X1950XTX, under load, causes the PSU to draw about 308 watts. A 450W PSU, as has already been said, is something any serious rig should have left in the dust long ago. I'm going cross-fire with two X1950s next week, so its a good thing I have a Thermaltake Tough Power 750W PSU in my rig. What Hitman said before is true. I paid the same as one would pay for an 8800GTX for my Bushmaster M-4...$650.00. That was a steal though. That rifle easily sells for in excess of $1500. Not a fan of hunting either, Force, my targets are all paper or steel plinking targets.

Guest IguanaKing
Beware of those results, Sonny. First of all, its about a 2.2GHz overclock on the processor. This is only possible with cascaded phase-change coolers, AFAIK. Second of all, how could there be no scores on any of the 3DMark06 tests that are visible in the background? Looks to me like someone is trying to sell something.
