From my little french and with the help of google I think it is true and no hoax.

Most of you probably assume these are socket 1151. They are not. These are the Kaby Lake-X models for socket 2066.

Intel Core i7-7740K is HEDT part on LGA 2066 socket, not LGA1151 as some sites accidentally posted - but yeah, even the prominent sites such as TechPowerUp made that mistake.

 

2.3% increase of base clock, 0% increase of turbo clock compared to i7 7700K, and 23% increase of TDP. And disabled integrated graphics. And probably much higher price, and much costlier motherboards.

 

Not really a Ryzen buster.

As it says in the article, the boost clock is as well raised by 100MHz: 4.3GHz/4.6GHz

 

 

Making it available ONLY on the 2066 socket is a good thing imho.

 

At least you get decent WS boards in the 299 arena that come with rapid-exchange in case of HW failure and not the usual RMA prodedure.

 

 

I guess the race is on... there will be more news about every day now prior to launch and both, Intel and AMD, won't hesitate to try it all to convince YOU :)

Well I have new Samsung 960 Evo M.2 drive, 32Gb of new Corsair 3200Mhz RAM and some other parts just waiting for release of Ryzen. Only then when I have a clear picture of the CPU landscape in terms of price and performance will I then put the cash down for either the blue or red team. Hopefully just one more month max to wait. In particular bought the RAM very early as forecast was for significant price rises up till Sep this year. On current pricing I saved myself AUD 75 alone.

From just reading the statements here, I doubt you'd get 2 FPS out of a very expensive upgrade from any decent setup.

If your a techno geek, I get it, I've been that guy but for a person simply wanting to fly DCS, I see no advantage. Certainly the DCS code is a bigger issue than hardware these days. (no multicore for starters)
