Influx of immature kids?

IonicRipper

Recommended Posts

I stopped playing DCS on multiplayer for a few months and I've been starting to get back into it and in the past month I've noticed more and more players writing immature comments in the game chat, complaining about deaths and insulting other player, shooting down ground attack aircraft and thinking theyre all pro and boasting about it in the chat etc...

Where is this influx of young immature kids coming from? Its starting to look like Call of Duty out there! I guess it was unavoidable considering the popularity DCS is gaining (specially since it started selling on Steam.)

Has anyone else noticed?

I've flown about 3 multiplayer sessions in the last month. During each one I was a team-killed. The worst thing about multiplayer is the other people.

new modules attract new players...about the teamkilling which really increased drastically lately,...i think, it could be possible, that the increase of VR users also could be at least partially the root for this problem...they see a dot, but cant identify it...at least thats what i hear from VR users...i myself dont have a rift.

It has been the norm for a long time, hence why I do not even read any of the chat and try not to use TS, it just get annoying. Same things happens every time they do twitch.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

I usually kept it on in case of important information or someone communicating target locations and whatnot. I've been closing it most of the time now, though.

I have mostly positive experiences, there is the occasional kiddy spamming the chat, true, but most server admins have a no nonsense attitude about that.

You guys have to actually work with your server admins. Logging in only a few times and then only complaining about it and not informing the server admin will change nothing. If there are people causing trouble, screenshot& pm to server admin. No server comes to mind that wouldn't take action.

There is also a difference in friendly fire offences. We have to occasional new guy not checking left and right before taxiing, while annoying, I think all can agree this is not a major issue. A guy does this once or twice and learned his lesson.

Next we have IFF noobs, who either new to FC3 or unfamiliar with their chosen aircraft. ('wait wat, I need to manually IFF!?') While certainly not nice going into MP without knowing how to check between friend and foe, a few sentences in chat 90% of the time set them straight.

Not to forget is the occasional fail in the heat of battle. A Aim120 going pitbull on friendly, messed up IFF in a flanker while merged and mistaking the wingman for the enemy etc.

And last is the type of intentional disruptive kiddy, just trying to troll at all costs. I have seen this in multiple ways, normal blue on blue, cheating to get weapons on freeflight server, ramming if no weapons are to be found, be it in the air or ground etc.

While each of those cases above might cause a very sour afternoon and ragequit, only the last example truly warrants admin action and the rest is a education process to other players, everyone has to take part in.

Take the guy taxing into you without looking, I have seen more times than I can count, people exploding in rage (and foul language) and quitting instead of educating somebody new what and why he did something wrong. And is somebody here who doesn't come from a flightsim background that has NEVER done exactly this? :D

It is like all walks of life, there are occasional issues that need to be dealt with. As already stated, a word with a server admin will usually nip it in the bud, and there is also the option of flying on password protected servers.

Our server runs in the public domain the majority of the time, but for specific organised missions, we add a password to exclude the unwanted.

I saw someone said they stopped using Teamspeak because of abuse issues. What is the point of flying online if you cannot communicate effectively? Again, channels can be password protected to exclude the disruptive elements, and create a haven away from the undesirable.

Best advice is to join an organised virtual squadron. There is far less chance of intruding, and poor flight discipline that way.

I have one comment in the real world A2A aircraft primary goal is to shoot down the A2G aircraft . They are the ones going to kill your troops destroy your base etc. If you can sidestep the sweep and escort you do. If the A2G guys all get through and you destroy the sweep you failed your mission.

I have seen a few posts now of people complaining about A2A guys targeting A2G aircraft, honestly tho thats their job, unless you are not trying to simulate the real world.

That wasnt my point. I was referring to the attitude of the player, not the tactics.

Still, point taken.

I haven't noticed much in the way of immature players, however, I usually play at off hours due to my schedule. TS and SRS are almost a must in my book. Some of the new modules either have no IFF or buggy IFF (mirage until recent) and thus every once in awhile you'll hear a Raygun call (unless you're not on TS to hear it.) If no one responds then it is likely the friendly will fire. I, myself, am not one who enjoys interacting with people at all (like in general, I'm a hermit), however, I swallow these desires and tolerate some off-topic talk in comms, in order to work better as a part of a team. Without naming specifics, I find the servers with SRS are more profession on comms and usually have a TS server running for general BS. Anyway, I'm sorry for your frustration, I hope you find a happy place to fox and rifle! Cheer!

Public servers are almost a no go for chopper pilots as we are sitting ducks to any fixed wings, hence a preferred target for those kids who wants to boast about their high scores. The few experiences I had made me join a squad a fly on private servers. I don't think I will ever try again public ones.

I got shot down about 10 times trying to build a buc sam in an Mi8 with my buddy's trying to cover me and also getting shot. Fellow squad mate on Blue killing me a lot, may have been ok if Iauncher hadnt glitched we knew we were on a loosing wicket but tried anyway it was close. My point (finally you may say) its the fighters job is to shoot down the Helos, I play on the public 16agr servers all the time 50% of the time in a Helo. Fly with friends and get your own Cap just like real life. Sorry but this is a sim and just like real life the fighters are gonna take down the easy targets. Oh and carrying some SAM troops, can really water their eyes just dont VRS trying to land ( done all that from.both sides :) ) . Oh and we had a guest player on the server causing carnage in a Mistral Gazelle displaying great skill.

To each his own but the greatest thing about DCS is that simulates real life Air Combat if you are worried about the score play battlefield. If you want to know what its like to fly Red Flag , fly on a public server with a bunch of friends and when you die check the TAC view just like Red Flag and learn why. I must admit I used to get annoyed when I died but I got over it and now enjoy every flight. Tac view is always running and its an invaluable learning aid. Occasinally I did nothing wrong the dam missile just chose not to fuze.

Not much info to share except 2 anecdotes.

I was flying on a public training server with a couple of friends, all of us in A-10Cs. No PvP areas whatsoever, but it was possible to spawn enemy fighters. At some point my wingman said he was under attack. I could see an Su-25T at his 6, launching missiles. I turned on the attacker, shoved an AIM-9 up his exhaust... bastard's still airborne and is now gunning my wingman. Second AIM-9 finished the Sukhoi off for good. My very first A2A kill in MP, woohooo! Except... is was a team kill. I asked the guy why he'd attacked my wingman, but he never said anything on chat and quit a little later. Well, screw the teamkill score, I *did* kill an enemy who was attacking my wingman. ;)

Ac couple months later, we joined a public server in Ka-50s. I'm scanning a ridge line for an enemy convoy when a Huey seems to sneak up on us. I've got my guns on him, ready to pull the trigger, just calling my wingman for confirmation. He says in this mission we have Hueys starting from the same FARP as the KA-50s, bringing supplies to the FEBA. Turns out I was only a trigger squeeze away from committing a teamkill myself. Sometimes it's just a lack of SA.

Then again, the very least one should do is to talk on TS and/or apologize in chat. Doing neither seems like hostile intent to me, or total immaturity.

I used to get frustrated as well, until Tacview! A lot of times when you perish and don't know why, it can provoke a negative emotional response (for me, anyway.) However after installing the ~3kb, FREE Tacview program and seeing what was actually happening, I grew to have a better understanding of what WAS actually happening! As a result, my situational awareness grew from lessons learned the hard way. As an aside, whenever I take the A-10C up I'm always packing A/A, and half the time I RTB with both missiles being expended. (Very few hits though, more of a dogs bark than a dogs bite, but it buys precious time.) Anyway, I am a forever FNG, but I felt like further sharing my experience!

Don't have a problem if there are kids on the server and crashing into each other or making stupid mistakes , there are some who connect and on purpose crash into someone but hey it's a software program so it's ok to let it go but once too many , the only server that i connect to has pilots using foul language and verbal attacks and honestly its no fun then and have never seen the admin controlling that after the server take over.

Gotta look for a new aerobatics server, don''t indulge in combat.

Every one gotta fail sometimes especially new player with no experience, but as said new moduls attract new player from other s what Games is not bad for DCS at all.

But also saidly the People with absolut foul language they only join the MP server to annoy other People like in every Game is also growing.

But get the hope they leave so fast as they comming, the complexity of DCS and lack of interest are deterrent.

I don't think some of them are kidz but who knows and it's just not bad words but rather something else. If they connect and fly around without these verbal sentences it's perfectly alright.

This sounds less your fault and instead smacks of bad mission design. We have enough varied aircraft in DCS mission designers could easily start making missions with distinct assets on both sides, or at least reducing the number of shared assets...

Its ok to say 'identify the paintjob' but by that point you may a well be committing taran attack against the target. This has only become more critical the more assets we get that have no IFF capability.

I don't understand these mirror matches on multiplayer too. The situational awarnes would great benefit if this would stop. Also maybe i would play more often in MP.

These mirror matches also contradict the arguments that real life A2A pilots would primary the A2G guys, and similar. If you want this level of realism you have to stop putting every available plane on both sides and even the WW2 ones with the modern Jets on the same server, this is really disturbing.

My opinion is, that you can't complain about these CoD-kiddi behaviour, when you put up CoD-like mirror matches on your Servers. I've seen F-15 on both sides and don't get why this has to be? There is no Balancing in real world armys so it shouldn't be in a sim. If you want to balance your matches, you should make less F-15 than Russian Jets available (specially now as we have an DCS level modern western Jet).

If i had the time and mony i would set up my own server with a Buddy-Spike like dynamic Campaign and only Eastern Jets on one side and western Jets on the other. With DCS Level jets prority (that means only FC3 Level jets in roles where no DCS Level jet is available for this side).

Maybe in the far future :D

I found TAW's excellent Kaukasus offensive is safe because its mandatory for DCS Simple radio or you are kicked and that gets rid of a bunch of people that aren't investing time into actually doing teamwork related things.

Totally recommend it, its the most complex and interesting server out there and worth the 15 mins or so to read and get maps up and your guys together and plan. And It's not a massive furball.
