Mini War = The Movie

Nice movie. Congrats Swartz. ;)

BTW, I'd like to point out the generality of players that any mission is all the more interesting when theres a team strategy, even if they dont have to fly in formation it would be nice to have a common goal. yesterday I spent 1 and a half hours chasing after red fighters circling arround their SAM sites waiting for stray blues and retreat home as soon as got painted, and the blue side who always--despite my persistent warnings NOT to fly into the mountains alone-- stubornly keep flying there and get sniped at or engaged by multiple SAM's, or both. This is a SIM not Lemmings armaggedon please.

Red frigates are always left to their luck. No red fighters will cover the region near tuapse. I spent 20 minutes of my time escotting A-10's to target, the red side hadnt not even showed up or tried to mount a strike pakage themselves. Red Su-25's fly above their SA-15's all alone in the hopes of getting a radar beacon fix from the other side SAM site, and retreat as soon as they arrive at the front line.

I saw ONE sole red mig who actualy came forward to engage the blue side the whole session. The rest of my time was filled with SAM alarm ringing on my years but seeing scared runnin red rabbits everywhere.

I might actualy learn to fly the fecking Su-25 just to blow those SA-11's up where no one has ever tryied before nor has the red side ever expected. But without coherent strategy I'm afraid Ill be left alone to be eaten alive. :D

Gawd how I hate mission specific and on top of that slow aircrat. Even Iron bombs on F-15C would be nice to have.

Yup, thats how I feel on SEAD missions, though it was great when you provided escort for me last night.

I had to laugh though when one of our fighter made the comment that there was no point in taking the sams out as they would come back at map rotation. That like saying that there is no point engaging enemy fighters as they can respawn. :D

Join a squad no0b and THEN you'll see what the teamplay is: fightersweeps, red flags, weekend ghey orgies...ok. just disregard the last part.

I was the one who made that comment, and my mind hasnt changed.

When I play the campaigns in F4AF, I am trying to win a war and what I do does make a difference, but when I play Lock-on, it is all about fast paced aircombat against human players ( which I think is some kind of airquake ). But on this new mini-war map ( which I call SAM-town map ), things get really boring. Migs are huging the rock and the SAMs, while F15s stay back because they know they are goona get screwed if they go into those moutains. In half an hour, I barely have any chance to shoot someone, but in the same time, I have heard the SAM launch warning more than a dozen time.

The formerly fighter-town was great, but this new one only gives me stomachache.

Hmm. Interesting comments. The map is actually very evenly balanced

The sams are just as threatening for both sides. However, Red team is much more organised. Ive taken the time to create "Tasks" for my squad members which means they have ground targets to take out. We are not just playing air quake and whinging about the number of sams. We are taking them down as well as engaging fighters. So given a bit of time red team does not have as many sams to deal with and life gets hard for Blue team.

So for someone to say red aren't engaging enemy aircraft isnt entirely true. In fact if you look at my stats you's see my a/a kills and losses is over 2 to one. Most of my deaths are from nasty lil Avengers or the Ticonderoga as I try to take out Blue defenses.

Those that want to fly the F15. That's fine but your only half doing a job. If I was planning blue missions I'd probably assign Su27's and F15's in Pairs to strategically take out Air defenses.

As for the Su25T's. The reason they are far away is because I dont want the Sams taken out so easily. If the Frogs were close then All sams would be popped by KH58's in about an Hour. Not the objective. So the 25T's are there for a well planned strike with escorts but a lone ranger will get bored very quickly.

Reminder. Here are the maps for the mission.

Blue team owned the map before, in a single, well coordinated strike. This is -all- about teamwork.

Unfortunately, whichever side does not have a squad running the action will lose (in particular, a squad used to this sort of fighting) - or if that side has insufficient aircraft.

Them's the breaks.

Hee hee, I remember that well....so much pleasure from seeing those ships sink...and a volley fire of 25MPUs from 20m by 5 Frogs was sweet :D

Fellas the Blue strike on the red ships was what, 3, 4 months ago on the first faulty version of the map with no opposition to speak of. GG you've brought that one flight up in the forums at half a dozen times by now. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Come and have another go. The Blue carrier has been sunk 20 times since then.

Oh give me a break; all you seem to want to do is belittle efforts of others. It was a pretty good strike, so get off it. ;)

And I brought it up to make a point, too. If you want 'miniwar' you need command and control. The side without it will lose.

I'd just like to see you guys actually have another go. Especially as it was "so much fun"

Come on. Everyone else is flying and enjoying it. I havent seen you in there since that day.

As for belittling. Thats not true. Ive congratulated you and your flight several in public times but lets face it. That mission was not working properly and you need to have another attempt for me to be impressed.

I am in /total/ agreement with having another go, and we will do when we can. Sadly things have been in a bit of a state of dissaray since then due to personal reasons for the most part :)

Im sorry for the shameless bragg in advance. But today I decided enough is enough with reds runnin all the time to their SAM's, so I grabbed a Su-25T just for the second time ever and made a deep penetration strike by myself without any support. Hand picked all BUK's strategicaly placed the red team had. Wihout them our A-10's could advance further and mopped those TOR's up.

1:30 time of hard work payed off because when I grabed my Eagle again, it raised some eyebrows at the red side when all of a sudden I chased them down across the mountains without any trouble. That was fun. :)

"SAM's must be asleep" they are pushing up daysies now. :D

It just goes to show that those that complain about Blue side are very very wrong.

Its actually much harder for Red. A single Su25T cant touch a Ticonderoga as it will just shoot the KH58's out of the sky. Thank you Pilot for demonstrating that with a little planning and the right tactics Blue side can make a real difference.

Nice video.. Now I guess I need to get into more multiplayer. I have been playing single player long enough now since I have had LO since the first release in Nov. 2004.

I have FC but I still have allot to learn about the 25T as I fly mostly A10 and F15.

I will come and check it out as soon as I get a chance.

Thanks again for the great video.

Very evenly balanced?

First, the battlefield is in the mountains, and I believe we can all agree that F15s suck in those hills. How can u call it balanced when the terrain of the battlefield is one side's nightmare but the other side's dream?

Second, the SAMs are very different for two sides. Near the frontline, the red side has Tors, while the blue side has Avengers. The range of Tor is nearly 3 times as long as the range of Avenger, that is why blue fighters get engaged by multi-SAMS, while those Avengers cant even cover the whole area, leaving holes in the blue air-defence system.

Third, IMO, those Su27s are no way help for F15s. I'd rather hear the SAM launch warning for ten times than to hear the warning when a Su27 turns on his radar behind me. I dont know whether he is friendly or foe, but I do know there are bandits who can come from behind by flying low in the northern white mountains, which are covered only 2 Avengers. Having Su27s on blue side only makes F15s keep turning around to IFF, and things get much worse when quite a few Su27s flyers love to jamm.

It would be interesting if the various squads, S77th, IA, 504, 44th, JaBog, RVE and anyone I've forgotten made a push for just one whole weekend to really hammer each other in that mini war.

For instance, half the squads go blue the other half red, and over the course of the weekend just fly as many sorties as people can. Would be a great community squadmatch. Wouldn't take much organising, if we just specified a date and squads showed up whenever they could, no particular time. Is there much interest in this from other squads?

BTW Downloading video now. Sorry to continue hijacking your congratulatory thread Swartz

EDIT: NICE MOVIE DUDE! Some really innovative camera shots there, some stuff I've never seen. Nice work.

I know I'd be interested in that, from a BW perspective, and I reckon our FW would be too but its a real SOB organising enough people at decent times. If it is a go-er at some stage we'd obviously like to pair up with the 44th ;)

I'd be much more interested in FW+BW inter-squad matches though, as they're far more fun when people only have "one life", can't re-arm/refuel at a whim etc - it makes for a nice tense and conservative mission where people can take pride in their victories or learn from their defeats (which in the case of a BW pilot is a regular thing cos every fecker shoots at us!)

PS: Sorry for hijacking as well, I'll be dloading your movie when I get home tonight ;)
