Have to admit that Viggen wasn't too much appalling to me. Great work with the teaser. Now I'm totally sold, going to get it for sure :) I'm quite sure that the plane will be great. Just hope that the campaign will match it ;)

3rd gen is the best gen.

3rd generation jets are mostly unclassified. They are iconic veterans.

To me, the most fun in DCS right now is MiG-21 vs F-5 servers. Its such a fun match. Great mix of new and old.

Hopefully the amazing response to the Viggen has shown developers that 3rd gen aircraft is something the community wants more of.

Congratulations guys, I've been so excited for this one and you guys have done a wonderful job by the look of it, I'm sure she flies just as great as she looks. On the edge of my seat for this one!

"Witness mere F-14s taking off from adjacent flight decks, gracefully canting left and right, afterburners flaming, and there’s something that sweeps you away—or at least it does me. And no amount of knowledge of the potential abuses of carrier task forces can affect the depth of that feeling. It simply speaks to another part of me. It doesn’t want recriminations or politics. It just wants to fly.”

Dear Leatherneck,

With that glow coming off from the radar screen towards my crotch, should I check for lumps more regularly?

Copied from a SAAB document on the history of their HUD and optical systems:

Virtual Image Display (VID)

The Maverick air-to-ground missile was

integrated in the Viggen system during the

1970`s. There was no space for the TV

rangefinder on the instrument panel in the

cockpit, which the pilot needed to lock

on targets.

The solution to this problem was the Virtual

Image Display, which was installed to the

right of the HUD. Another term used for

VID is HLD – Head Level Display. The VID

contains of HUD related optics without

reflecting glass and 90 degree prism, and the

optics presents a virtual picture which gives

the pilot the impression of a larger screen

floating in the air at a comfortable distance.

An important characteristic of VID is that a

picture watched on distance is much easier

to read in turbulent and shaky environment

compared to an image featured in the instrument

panel. This makes VID excellent also in

ground combat vehicles.

So great to see the official announcement and thank you for the Hoggit overview as well! A lot of excellent info gleaned from those posts and discussion (on both the AJS37 and F-14). It sounds as though all aspects of the module were pushed a level beyond that of the MiG-21. Also, the in game footage is genuinely awesome! :D

My credit card is poised.... :)

-Nick

PS - Will there be an in-cockpit pilot?

PPS - I just had a real look at the posted screenshots - INSANE! :D The detail/realism is so impressive.

like hologram or something like that ? :D

this thing looks so small to me, how is that suppose to be "comfortable distance" sometimes a-10's mfd gives trouble when triying to see surrounding area.
