Hey everyone,

 

Earlier we mentioned that we have been working on DCS VR optimization. I have good news today! After much investigation and work, we traced the issue back to the terrain engine. We have since adjusted the terrain engine, and this has resulted in a 50% increase in VR performance! We will continue to test and optimize this further, but we hope to have this great improvement to you soon.

Is that specific to VR, or would we see some speed improvement also with standard monitors?

Unless this refers to double-rendering the screen for both eyes or some other VR-specific thing, I hope it will help the rest of us as well. :thumbup:

Don't be greedy. You pancake people already have better performance than VR. :P

I’m assuming this is across the board for VR not just limited to Oculus? E.g. similar results seen on Vive, Samsung, etc? ( asking as this is posted in the Oculus thread)

My take is that this would cut across all VR headset. The optimisation is being done on dcs world terrain engine and that should impact all VR.

 

I might even hazard a guess this could help framerate generally. Just a guess.

Will these optimizations have any beneficial effects for players still playing on monitors?

Are you sure ? He said he found an issue, not he made optimizacion.

Maybe the issue is related to VR, that you must render the image twice, and something related to terrain was made twice too without being needed, and the improvement is only for VR.

 

Maybe not, but don't hype people, he just said 50% improvement on VR.

I just saw that Oculus released ASW 2.0. Wondering if this will be available in DCS as they said developers need to provide depth data for it to work.

I am so hoping this performance gain for VR in DCS finds it's way into the next Open Beta Update!

It would definitely increase my gaming time in DCS!

I agree it must be incoming quite soon, it doesn't make sense to announce it otherwise.

 

I concur . Torches and pitchforks would ensue after such a tease with a lengthy interval before release . What exciting times for DCS and VR , with the new headsets around the corner and DCS performance sufficient to run them !

I don't think ASW 2.0 is released yet its not in the latest beta update so maybe it will get a seperate update.

Also eagerly waiting the VR performance gains in DCS.
