REDEYE_CVW-66
One tend to pick theathres that are relevant. And even if the 190D and 109K came later- what they share with the Spit, P-51, and P-47 were the fact that they operated over the western front, where the air fighting were the most intense. Western Europe, not just Normandy, are predominantly flat and dominated by agricultural landscape. North Africa, is dominated by Sahara- endless, lifeless streches of sand. I don't see how that could have been better. If you want hills- fly the Caucasus. I could argue that the Netherlands bordering Germany would have been a better choice for the planeset- giving the more correct timeperiod for all AC (December 1944-May 45). It would however- still be mostly flat. Normandy, while very iconic for its D-day campaign, had some of the least intensive air to air fighting (compared to 40-43, and even the late war), but its about ten thousands times better than what we have now- and the map is beautiful and true to life. And for Spitfire, Jugs, and even P-51's- its a great choice, doing dirty work together with the army.
Oesau
I have only seen videos, but it looks to me like the Spitfire looks very right while some of the older cockpits (like the P-51D) are more likely to look washed out. Perhaps the newer aircraft have textures that are better optimized to the new lighting system. Maybe the newer textures reflect less too - different specularity or something like that? Just my 2 cents. :) -Nick I had made the same observations in the Early access thread but didn't get a lot of comments. A lot of videos being made are being done at dawn or dusk so the effect isn't as strong as it in the day and looks good. During the day however, a/c like the P-51D have IMHO average looking cockpit panels - I suspect it is to do with the textures as it's not the same in some of the other a/c. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3129877&highlight=oesau#post3129877
philstyle
Some guys must REALLy want to re-live the D-Day invasion, over any other conflict of WWII. ! This specific map allows us to play a section of geography that was an active airwar from 1940 until 1944. It's almost the only part of the world of this size that has that (aside from the Pas De calais). planeset permitting, this map has an incredible potential, historically - it's far from limited to the D-day invasion. as for topography, Normandy might not be the Kaikoura Ranges, but it has its moments. And don't forget, there is a nice chunk of southern England and the IoW to look at. As for North Africa.. it's 200km from Mersah Matruh to Derna. 200km of almost completely flat terrain with almost no variation in tone either. The normandy coast from Carentan to Le Havre is about 25% of that.. and is far, far more colourful. ED Team NineLine Posted May 11, 2017 ED Team Share Posted May 11, 2017 You would have to try and find someone from RRG and ask why they picked it. ED picked it up as it was part of the Kickstarter, and they have tried to honor that the best the could. Genuine question - Was Normandy specifically picked for the WWII guys to fly around in for any reason in particluar? Thinking of all the different possibilities for theatres during WWII, it seems Normandy was the flattest, most featureless one available? Even Northern Africa would have more scenery features than Normandy? No harm intended, I personally have no interest in flying around over dead flat fields as far as the eye can see, even thou I am a huge Spitfire fan and intend on grabbing it possibly. I guess the WWII guys will pipe up and put me in my place...but I watch the vids and think 'really?'. Some guys must REALLy want to re-live the D-Day invasion, over any other conflict of WWII. I suppose the same could be said for the fact I am hanging out for the F-14 and associated theatre....which will be a carrier out in the middle of the ocean. But that is kinda where F-14's fly from...WWII happened a lot of places!
