The trend this board has taken is exhausting.

Here's the deal. We're all here because we want a PREMIUM, HIGH FIDELITY product, that's why we don't bat an eye at spending $60 for one airplane.

I want the same fidelity out of the entire experience, if that means ED invests more time into each item; ie units, maps, airplanes, etc and wants to recuperate that by selling them individually I will wholeheartedly support that because that's why I'm here.

There are plenty of other sims out there that offer a lesser product at a baseline package, flat cost, if that's more important to you then by all means go that route.

I'm here for a premium, niche, experience with the understanding that there's a hefty price tag on that, at this point with modules and peripherals I'm in for thousands, as are many of us.

The last thing I want is for a small, outspoken, minority of this community to trash ideas like this to the point where we never see a Vietnam unit pack, or a Korean War unit pack, or any other number of interesting future paid-for enhancement packs.

Don't forget, it would have been just as easy for ED to say "here's a map with a handful of low quality units, each side gets a truck and a tank. The community can take care of the rest of the units through modding".

Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Why is the news of the Normandy map (prepurchase), as well as the promo video, first posted on fb, and on this forum has not yet been, or is discussed here in threads with more than 1600 posts and isn't visible at all?

I am actually curious why we are not allowed to view/link/discuss the video repost on YouTube but only the post on FB.

I don't think people argue about that, it's more about that the splitting and/or non availability of the ground units for the other map, might create problems down the road for the mission/ campaign creator and server host. Both side have valid argument I must say and most, I think, understand that ED want a return for their work.

Just saw the news. I totally dont understand how this is supposed to work if someone doesnt own the asset pack and joins a server where they are placed on the map somewhere. So can he not join in the first place? Will there be no units at all instead? Does this include AI aircraft? So can I not build missions with these AI ac if I dont own the asset pack? Is this really thought through yet? :noexpression:

PS: So will I not be able to drive around WWII tanks with CA? This is one of the reasons I bought the module actually. I thought ground forces are mannable via CA. "DCS: Combined Arms gives you control of ground forces during the battle." :(

To Sulaco's post

+1 People need to read up on what ED has said about this decision, it's about offering people a choice. Some only want the map, others only the models, some, hopefully the vast majority will buy both.

I'm sure once people see how just how good this map is, the models, how much work ED has put into this, many will stop criticizing.

I hear you, I guess what I didn't say but should have is that I don't see any fracturing as it's almost unthinkable to me that someone who's invested in the WWII aircraft and map wouldn't also buy the unit pack.

I guess what I'm getting at is this sim is built on time and money investment, if someone is unwilling to spend $30 for authentic units, chances are they'd also be unwilling to pay for the aircraft and map as well.

If you don't own it, you cannot join a server using it.

Yes, it includes AI aircraft that are part of the asset pack

If you don't own it, you can't place them in missions. You don't own anything to place.

Yes, I think ED thought this out.

CA has not been directly addressed but I would guess that, at least eventually, you will be able to drive the WWII tanks in CA.

I know for a fact i will be buying it. Ive been toying with the idea of buying the Tiger but im going to wait for the Normandy map pre-release and buy that instead.

Re the units, i thought i had read that the units would be available on other maps, maybe im mistaken though.

Anyway, I'M COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS UNTIL ITS AVAILABLE!!! :)

Thanks for posting that! Putting info on facebook and not their own forums pisses me off. I don't do facebook and never will so I'm surprised that they would neglect their own site like this... Thanks again!

I think I know how you feel. I don't do facebook either and never will. Makes me feel like a second class citizen for just religiously reading these main forums; like, I am not as worthy of receiving early information unless I do facebook. Fully respect it is up to ED how they want to communicate, but this has not made me feel good.

Happy landings,

The Newsletter will still be a long tomorrow, they just wanted to share something on FB this time a little early, they have shared stuff at sites like Mudspike as well... just reaching out to all corners of their community... the news was here almost instantly anyways.

Quick question if I may rather than spam the official stream discussion.

Will we be able to take control of individual soldiers in CA. The new map lends itself infantry tactics and being in the centre of the ground action as a grunt appeals.

Thank you. But then I still dont see how this is coherent to the current mechanism, where I am able to place a module from eg CA or any other DLC aircraft as AI. And if I want to drive all the ground forces I need to buy CA. Instead now I will need a second module even though controllable ground forces is the very selling point of CA. I dont mind the money as the kit price is very reasonable, but I simply cant quite get behind the logic of this decision. Why not sell the map for 60$ and include the units for free. Noone would have complained, as it stands now I basically pay with my purchases also for stuff I dont care about, such as new SAM models and Igla soldiers and whatnot. But I dont care about that at all, but its ok. They can neither be used for WWII nor Korean scenarios. And now suddenly WWII models are excluded from the usual treatment. I really dont get the point of it.

Did you see the list of units coming, we have never got this many units at one time at this quality, its a big financial investment for them, they have to return some of it somewhere.

What if somebody wants the WWII units, but don't want the Normandy map? They have an option, that's all. And you still can buy the pre-sell price with everything included for a discount.

Folks have been talking about having seen a release trailer, but I can't find it :(

Is it in a restricted place?

I did, thats why I said sell the map at 60$. The bundle will be 60$, so where is the problem? Even more well deserved money in for ED overall and noone would have cared. Well it is how it is I guess. Doesnt have to make sense to me in the end, I am gonna buy it anyway. Even though I am a bit irritated overall.

Yes, well ... that is very interesting direction in which it moves, this pricing policy. First we had LockOn the simulation with 8 flyable aircraft, everything else has been a part of this simulation. Then came DCS, FC3 & CA - perfect. DCS free, FC3, modules and CA - pay. Now when came Normandy we have asset pack.

If this continues we will soon be forced to buy individual tanks, missile systems, ships, and why should not then and airports, missiles, bombs...

And everything will be justified with if you want to - buy, If you don't - don't buy, and of course the possibility of choice. When I think how much money I gave  and we still do not have a stable simulation, works only on two cores, eternal struggle with the FPS, stuttering and freezing. MP is constantly in trouble, dedicated server out of sight etc. Somewhere must be stopped. It seems that for all of us decision time - how to proceed.

Actually, the 'bundle' is a special bundle price. Unbundled, the map is $44.99 and the Asset Pack is $29.99.
