Additional free map: Open sea

Hello!

With 2.0 supporting the ability to add new maps, and carrier ops soon being a more important part of DCS, I think it makes sense to add a map with just open sea. I can't imagine that would take much work effort to implement, right? With little work effort involved, it would make sense if it was released as another free map next to Caucasus.

Thoughts?

Cool idea, I would even go one further and say a 'fantasy' map with two smallish islands on each side (maybe a neutral one in the middle for a goal) with a airfield might make for a fun experience. Using existing art objects, you would think it would be reasonable to do.

I'm fine with small land mass, and I'm fine with fantasy aspects as long as the work effort on the developers is within reason so that they can make it a free addition. It's not because I'm greedy, but free means everyone will have access to it right out of the box which is nice.

Such a map has been suggested a few times already.

I wish we had the map tools to just create it ourselves, as a community effort.

I would create Midway Island or Wake Island and the water around it. Everything you need is there. I played around with a terrain mesh that would work (from USGS) myself.

EDIT: Kiribati would also work I think.

Unfortunately none of the registered 3rd parties or ED is doing something like that, or at least they aren't telling us.

Reminds me of the good ol' days of IL-2! Especially Pacific Fighters! :D Good times!

Well it would kinda rocks to have the posibility to make our own maps, but such a simple map as a preset would truly be good.

I had a spinoff idea though. WW One planes. Did this ever came up?

Using computers since 1977.

I raised exactly the same idea a few months ago but there didn't seem to be much support :(
